Hello if you're watching this and you're about to comment why I copied the config through USB and why I didn't enter commands on CLI, the point and goal of this video is to show how we configure switches in real world, corporate setting. I am showing the realistic way on how we get it done at work so if you're expecting to see actual commands being typed/copied on CLI, then this is not the video for that. I didn't want people to think that we do CLI for every switch we deploy coz that's not realistic. I hope this is all clear now. Thank you!

CLI is handy for complex network manipulation. Your method to get the swith up and reachable via IP for additional configs is acceptable. If a network is setup from scratch it would make sense to setup all devices according to architectural design information, before shipping for deployment.

Yeah, well... this is what we actually do in a real world scenario. Network Infrastructure Engineer here with 25 years experience (I'm 52) so yes, this is how things are done in the corporate world. Forget about wasting time on CLI, that's good for learning but extremely ineficcient for deployment, time consuming and prone to errors. The mere fact that some male younglings are harrassing the lady only shows massive amounts of insecurity, immaturity and obviously a great deal of jealousy because they're most probably ranting from home while she's employed and doing the job. Anyway, nice and refreshing video, far away from the home-lab-cli boring stuff.

I made videos like these to show more of the real world experience and this is how we're actually doing it. You absolutely nailed it. We do this for efficiency and accuracy as well especially deploying a lot of machines. Also I work in IT and don't specialize in Networking so I'm always doing so many things too. I still read the config file and learn from it. Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback. I also noticed that if a guy posts a video like this, they don't get comments like I do. It's sad that this industry is still tough on women. Thank you and hopefully I can post more videos like these as I really enjoy making content. More power to you as well Sir!

Agree, I'm younger than you (38), but 22 years experience, and usually I always never use a CLI mode, mainly because I use Dell switches and first thing I do is enable web mode (if available). I had a issue with one, he didn't recognize the SFP, so after a long waste of time the support send me an update. I don't understand why people choose to suffer.

I’m a young male networking student and I have to fully agree it’s honestly so sad to see how females are treated in this field and this video comment section by some are proof. I’m not gonna lump them all together but it’s def. A large problem and it’s VERY annoying. Notice how these tutorial type networking videos are largely male. This is why. We need to be accepting and respectful to ALL people in this field. Anyways, I full agree. And funnily enough, throughout most of my classes, with professors as old (no offense lolll) and with as much experience as you I’ve always been taught to learn CLI as core backup knowledge incase something goes wrong and I need to know how to work it. But never as the only or implied or superior way because of the exact reasons you stated lol. In fact one of the professors even showed us first hand how it is and setup a real world deployment scenario that was on a time crunch. And even though we were still learning students, the amount of students that either made errors or didn’t even come close to finishing in time was almost 100% lol. These comments downing her are nothing more than insecure males who most likely have no real experience past being able to take their sweet time with CLI for a home network setup, all so they can pat their egos on the back and make comments like this on KZread. Sad tbh lol.

@@jasonx165 oh nice!! goodluck on your networking studies! Yeah I bet that if a guy posts a video like this, they won't make comments like they did with mine. This is also why there are very few females in the industry even if we are there's a lot interested in this field. I agree, age, gender, race etc has nothing to do with skills so we should be accepting, respectful and open to ALL people. Oh that's funny! We know the commands and also test them carefully before we put them in config files. Some people just think that we're just importing a file but of course we know how it works. We just do it this way to be efficient and accurate as possible. Thank you for the kind words. Yeah we can't please everybody but being unreasonable and illogical with comments is also different. And you're right, they probably haven't even worked in the field

So refreshing to see a video without all the “studio hype” so many other channels have. Real world, real talk and no sponsors. Thanks for a terrific video.

Wow thanks for this great feedback. I truly appreciate it! Yeah I really wanted a more raw and realistic video at work because I wanna share that working in IT and tech is not that glamorous and easy and just high paying as a lot of people might think. Also, I am a really small channel and I do everything myself lol and I lack all of the professional devices but I think that's ok. My main goal is to be as informative and educational as possible.

Technology has changed, but concepts remain the same. Started out with 10Base2 thin / bnc connectors.. etc... As long as folks learn the basics, the process generally stays the same. I have a lot of experience as a child/teen with a TRS-80 Model 1 / color computer, etc... got into IBMs, etc... @@EastCharmer

I didn't want people to think that we enter the commands manually everytime we configure a switch coz that's not best practice. But yeah I will make a separate video about the complete config. This video is more of showing how it's done in a corporate setting realistically

Coz when I went to school, I learned all of the concepts but not any application or real-world scenario and it was tougher getting a job if all you know is the textbook.

Thanks for the educative video. I work in IT but networking has been my weakest point but studying every other time to improve knowledge, using packet tracer too. The problem is I have worked with 3 different companies and everything was always already set up, so most times theres almost no way to actually learn on the job. keep up the great work

@@BB-tu2bq My current role is called Broadcast IT and I'm an all around IT that does almost everything from user support to IT projects, some networking, systems and more. oh lol yeah that's unfortunately how it is in networking :( once it's all set, there's really not a lot of work to be done after but switching VLANs and port security

@@EastCharmer oh cool, never heard of that role before but cool you are able to work on projects, I think it really helps with ones development also.In my workplace, we have no vlan configured. I am thinking of getting CCNA this year but a part of me is ready but most part is a bit scared lol.

This is very close to how I deploy switches in the real world. I'm Network Admin/Engineer since 2011 and doing networking and CCNA academy since 2008. I typically use a template on Notepad and just change out the hostname and IP information as needed but your method is just as effective and it's nice seeing the USB port used for something other than firmware upgrades :). Nice Video and good luck in your career.

hhmm I haven't been in the industry for that long to know but I hope that's not a bad thing lol That's also why I liked Networking more than other areas in tech, because it really doesn't change much compared to other areas.

That's cool that you are allowed to change hostname and set the IP address. I only get to upgrade the IOS version. The client company network team does the rest of the config remotely.

It's cool seeing real world applications rathe than all the "clout" based showy content. I'm not a Network technician(though I love networking) but I lead a team of techs who did ITAD work and learned a ton and almost none of the over the top stuff folks show on many other channels is how day to day real life pans out.

oh yeah that's why I like showing what the reality is with my job. A lot of people are also showing that IT is this "high paying in demand job" but don't show the work you have to put in before you even get to "high paying".

@@EastCharmer I work as an Implementation Consultant po with Genesys Telecomms.. if familiar po kayo sa mga IVR systems ganon po pero cloud based. Ang related siguro sa network ung pag build ng SIP trunks pero actual config ng networking devices wala po eh... I'm liking your content po. Keep up the good work 🙌

I'm only stating this because no one ever explains why we don't just push the firmware upgrade to the switch using TFTP: The mini USB console cable has a transmit speed of 12mbps. It takes FOREVER to upload it. Plus, most enterprise PCs have TFTP disabled by default and if you don't have admin priv you won't be able to enable it to get by your local firewall. You just taught me something new! I never thought about keeping a config template file on the flash drive. I just always copy and paste the config in the CLI. You should make a video on the costs of Cisco switches and their components. It's always shocking to see how much these things can cost. I had to purchase a few c9300 UXMs and a couple of c9318's a few months back and my mouth dropped at the inital costs. LOL

On another note, tftp has issues with larger files and you will randomly hit issues with corrupt downloads ... Honestly the easiest way is have a file server setup securely the switches can hit in a lab network, toss an ip on the management interface and you can push configs down that way. We have an automated version of this where the user tosses in the switch profile into the tool at work, ties it to a chassis sn and it can configure it automatically via a terminal server.

Oh yeah. I think the flash drive is just the easiest and simplest during the initialization when building from scratch coz atleast you don't have to setup your network for the tftp etc. It will just load the files and it's done. Oh yeah that would be a good video idea too. Yeah the 9300s series are so pricey and they have more features too so they're really for big enterprises lol

i agree but it depends on completely diff scenario... here sensitive companies like banks and data centers do not allow any short of TFTP, hence a good old usb method would be the way to upgrade a firmware. so diff scenario, diff methods
