I got into 45 colt quite by accident... I had a .357 and l want'd a 44 spcl. No magnum... Just the mill 44 spcl! In a cowboy frame! At that time the only 44spcl.was in dbl.act'n! Talk ab't cry'n the blues!! Then my local dealer said " if you want the original cowboy gun... Why not just gt a colt 45 in the Ruger new vaquero! I did! And I've never look'd back with regret! I've really grown to love that cartridge! Now l own several guns in that caliber!!! My wife even converted to 45 colt from .38 spcl! Sorry this was so long! But l had to share this! Love your channel!

Some folk get mighty twitchy when they see me carrying 6 in me 75 Cimarron Rem clone. 'You're gonna lose a toe". Etc etc. Well if you do it right, you can. An old family friend told me of an even older trick to carrying all 6 loaded. That being, shave a notch in the rim of your case with a file just big enough for the firepin. Load your first as normal, your second is that notched case, with notch facing to the first cartridge, between the 'bosom" of the cases, and even with the primers/firing pin. You then load the other four as normal. On the 4th, rather than cocking and lowering the hammer fully, barely releave your hammer on half cock, (over cocking could end up binding your cylinder until rotated manually, practice a bit before carrying that way to get a handle on how much to cock) and then lower it between the chambres manually, and there the pin *should rest within that notch. If done right, you can carry your SA revolver fully loaded, and it will cock.and index just as it would any other time. A trick passed from one True Old Cowboy onto me, I share it here with you. Cheere, and happy shooting, mates. ^.-.^

@@Beuwen_The_Dragon That'll work! I carry the Schofield with 6 up and the hammer/firing pin between rims, but that works on that gun without modification. Doing what you're talking about on a Colt pattern and keeping the same two pieces of brass marked for that position would be something I'd do. I know there are those who say that it'll hurt the mechanism, but the mechanism is the same basically as the cap and ball Colt pattern guns we do that all the time with to carry them on the safety pins between chambers. So long as the bolt retracts before the hand moves the cylinder, I don't envision a problem.

@@plowboysghost Quite so. The feller whom shared this secret with me was truely one of the Last Old Cowboys, living out of saddlebags as a lad back when motorcars were still outnumbered by horses, and he carried a fully loaded Colt on his belt till his dying day. So this is indeed a 'trade secret" I trust with me life. And i do see how some folk could feel iffy about lowering their hammer while half cocked, rather than full, as you need to find the particular sweet spot on your gun for when to lower the hammer. But, it is how i carry mine, and I shall pass this trick onto everyone I know. Might even make a wee video on it sometime. How to do it proper without binding up the gun and such. Feel free to do it yourself if you feel the nack.

Like the shirt.....Like the revolver even more....and it is in that fine caliber, 45 Colt. Like that barrel length and your cross draw set up....that might be a good candidate for one of those lower slung Doc Holiday style shoulder holsters. Yep, I was slow on the draw and missed out on at least 1 of 2 Schofield No. 3s in different barrel lengths that got snatched up. That barrel length makes me think of new Ruger Carryhawk I wanted to pick up for cross draw to complement my Ruger Bisley Blackhawk, but cannot find one now. Having no commercials is much appreciated. Thanks Mr. plowboysghost, just keep doin' what your doin'.

I was actually looking at a "Double Huckleberry" rig where I could carry this short gun on my right and the 4-3/4" on the left...shoulder holster/Doc type rig. I like the looks of that. I *might* just do that, but it'll cut into my gun stimulus coming up, so that'll mean a little less gun options. I'll do some studying........ I used to own 2 3.5" brid's head Ruger Vaqueros in .45 Colt. They were old/big Vaqueros, not New Vaqueros. They had black micarta grips. I liked them, all right, but of course they were heavier than the Colt sized clones. I can't imagine wanting to run much +P through those being bird's head guns, either. I really appreciate you commenting and contributing to the "discussion" my channel on a reliable basis. Thanks!

As a Range Safety Officer (upper case letters added to make me seem important, lol) we are taught to watch out for folks being careless. That's what it boils down to. You are not being careless. As you pointed out, the trigger requires you to squeeze it as part of the post loading action. Wannabes need to whine about firearms safety without considering the reason. Carry on, brother. I wouldn't kick you off a range that I was RSO over as there are certain exceptions to the rules.

I remember this girl at a Chinese food restaurant here in SoCal, pointed one of those temperature guns at my forehead to take my temperature. My temperature went from normal, through the roof. The bad part was she gave me NO/0 warning. she just pulled it out from behind the counter, and pointed it at my head, like it was a normal thing. First reaction was, move my head out of the way and slap that little radar gun out of her hand, all in one moton.. What came next was every word in the book, for sumdumbitch. Anyway ended up leaving, with very Vocal Rejection to their practices, never ever to return again to that establishment.

I too had problems with my Cimarron SA, but like you, they were small annoyances (primarily issues with the finish) and not enough to warrant the time and inconvenience of sending the piece back. It is aggravating, however, to pay in good faith for a product that did not receive sufficient inspection and attention before it was sent out to the customer.

I've accumulate a number of Cimarron's and Taylors, including a Thunderer. I like the grips quite a bit though they are slick. The actions and quality of timing has much variability gun to gun imo. I had to send my Thunderer back as the hammer was not catching on the 4th click. The repair was an improvement, not 100% but good enough. Learning how to tune these guns is helpful and there are a ton of good video's.

Sometimes a gun needs some tlc. And like the lads riding out in the country, if your gun needs some work, you dinae fuss over a wee marring in the finish, you just do what needs to make it go bang. Me 1875 (acquired after your recommendation) has a cylinder binding issue. Took it apart and realised not only was the backface slightly uneven, tighter on the left side, there was also a sloppy ridge which would catch brass and bulged primers after firing. Didn't fret any, just took me files and slowly shaved off till me cylinder would rotate freely and the backface was flat as can be. Could have sent it off to uberti or some such, but this here is my gun. I sure as heck got meself some aesthetic flaws, so why not me own shooty too? Happy Shooty mate. ^.-.^

Thank you. Taurus makes a few models that are very popular and quite economical. Those sell a lot, and the videos featuring them tend to get a lot of views. I own them because they work and I like them. With regards to single vs double actions, I like both and own both. The break top Schofield is about as fast as my double actions, though, when it comes to unloading and reloading...since it can be reloaded with a speedloader. In aimed fire, double action isn't a whole lot faster than single action, if any at all.

Go for the Pietta 1858 Remington New Army. Excellent and the cheapest around. After the War of Northern Agression, Union soldiers were allowed to buy surplus pistols and they chose the Remington two to one over the Colt for reliability and faster reloading. Conversion cylinders to fire modern cartridges can be purchased separately here in America from companies like Taylor's, Cimmeron and Buffalo Arms without the government being notified. I'm not sure if they ship overseas, but the pistols run about $300 and cartridge conversion cylinders are about $250. I own two.

Well...technically, the bird's head grip doesn't have that the flat place on the grip frame right behind the hammer. This is patterned more like the original Colt's Thunderer and Lightning double action grip frame. A bird's head would be more likely to rotate the muzzle upward in a long, heavy double action trigger stroke than this style would. The lip of the gripframe behind the flat settles into the web between the thumb and index finger and tends to pull more straight back when the trigger is pulled. It's "farby" and unnecessary on a single action, but it's still cool.
