She lied through her teeth to the postmasters during the week, then preached a sermon - no doubt abhorring the evils of breaking the ten commandments - on Sundays. Just the sort of integrity that would make an ideal bishop it would seem.

I don’t think the Ten Commandments have been preached since the 1950’s. They now preach the sermon on the mount, if you read it, it makes Vennells look even worse than if she was preaching the Ten Commandments.

The words evil, sin, hell, heaven and virgin birth, and the Ten Commandments are NEVER spoken by people in a current day Anglican Church. They haven’t preached using those words for about 70 years. The Anglican Church has been infiltrated by Marxist intellectuals who see Jesus as a real man and Marxist figure. They do not believe in any other dimension, such as after life, or eternal life. Your greatest fear is not being told you’re going to hell, your greatest fear is that the destruction of faith in this way, makes room for other faiths, who may just kill you without preaching, or alternatively for a Totalitarian Communist society.

@@marinka424 Maybe if the ten commandments were still preached, we'd live in a better society; they are - after all - pretty much just common sense. 'Bearing false witness' is definitely not acceptable in Christianity whichever passage we use to confirm that view. Slightly OT but I wonder how a male Chief Executive would have fared if he'd behaved the way she has done in the last few days.

She seems a perfect fit for the Church of England.

As a member of the C of E Welby is not a great leader never has he seemed to do but meet the hierarchy and the Royal Family are N my opinion is himself not qualified enough for his position

They have taken back her CBE. GOOD now they need to take back the bonus's she was given whilst she was ruining INNOCENT people's lives, then send her to prison.

I wouldn’t trust Welby as far as I could throw him. I suspect he’s delighted that Lyndsey Hoyle is in trouble because it takes the emphasis off him knowing about multi Christenings,Paula V cocking up the post office and nearly being made bishop of London from a part time role in a small church,and of course,how did he get where he is when a senior member of the church said he wouldn’t give him a job! I’ve never never in my entire life been so disgusted with an Archbishop that I want him removed from office. His main problem is that he can’t keep his snout out of things that have nothing to do with the church and he’s too fond of the sound of his own voice.

In the 1990’s instruction went out to all clergy that the Church was to become a political force, and the days of the village vicar knowing the names of all the little old ladies was gone. Although congregations were largely conservative, vicars were mainly left wing Guardian readers.They were liberal Christians and shared the idea of modernism with Marxists. Atheist Marxists moved in and the liberal Christians allowed them to use that term. This is why the church is now obsessed with identity politics rather than God.

Perhaps this tells us something about how trustworthy Welby's judgement really is?

Ah!!! Someone who understands the Church !!. I get so fed up with people saying they’re only interested in the 10 commandments and calling people evil, and taking your money. If they only knew the truth they’d be down at their local church themselves preaching the 10 commandments from the pulpit. Even Dawkins goes to Church based on this realisation.

I think Islam could rid us of them. Or Marxists, although a lot of Marxists became priests to get rid of them from within. Which do you prefer out of the three? It seems Dawkins has become a cultural Christian, now he’s realised that killing Christianity just leaves a gap for an alternative ideology.

Isn’t this just typical of all of our institutions? The police, armed forces, border force and immigration.. and now the clergy, are all now failing to make sufficient checks.

I hadn't realised, but am not surprised, that the Church of England didn't look closely at Vennels - they're pretty good at appointing and/or covering up for criminals.

No well meaning Christian in a congregation should have her in a position of power over them.. When we had the first flush of women priests in the 90’s , quite a few were simply Queen Bee’s who wanted to sharp elbow any female Christian out of the way, to the point of persecution and character assassination. I saw several nice women fall victim to that treatment. Most unpleasant, but Vennells reminds me of that type. The male hierarchy above were duped by these women. When you look at her attitude towards the post masters you can just as easily change post masters into little old lady in the congregation, to see how Vennells would treat them. Some of those dope men at the top should wake up.

It's all very odd and inconsistent when you consider the way the Church treated Martyn Percy, the ex Dean of Christchurch, Oxford. But then he trod on a few establishment toes and all sorts of "mud" was flung his way which, had it not been for support elsewhere might have led to similar punishments as experienced by certain postmasters. The whole damned edifice is as rotten as hell!

As she is not Catholic she can nor be excommunicated or sent to purgatory

Well no man can excommunicate someone from God. And Purgatory was a get rich quick scheme. People paid the Church so family members spent less time there. Martin Luther pointed this out.

What does it really mean being a vicar, priest, bishop, archbishop or even the Catholic Pope? It means nothing, its only a 'handle', much the same as CB users had 'handles' years ago. It doesnt make you a better, more honourable or more honest a person, the dog collar or other archaic attire makes the wearer feel more superior. There's no telling what goes on under the garments worn by Catholic priests, nor what goes on in the minds of those wearing them. Written as a profound atheist!
