Post Office Inquiry: moment Paula Vennells cries as documents reveal her comments about postmasters

Former Post Office CEO Paula Vennells broke down as she was presented with evidence that she had made disparaging remarks about subpostmasters, who's lives were ruined when they were prosecuted over IT failures at the business.
The inquiry was shown minutes from a meeting between Vennells, Post Office personnel, and MPs, held on June 18, 2012.
Ms Vennells told MPs: “It appears that some subpostmasters have been borrowing money from the Post Office account/till in the same way they might do in a retail business”.
She said there “had not been a case investigated where the Horizon system had been found to be at fault”.
But Mr Beer points out that was not true.
He highlighted three specific cases which subpostmistresses accused of stealing Post Office funds had, by the time of that meeting, been acquitted by juries after blaming Horizon for the issue.
Mr Beer asked: “Why were you telling these parliamentarians every prosecution had found in favour of the Post Office?”
Breaking down in tears, Ms Vennells responded: “I fully accept now that the Post Office knew that.
“Personally, I didn’t know that, and I am incredibly sorry that happen to those people and to so many others.”

She selected a strategy of protecting Horizon at any cost, even if it meant people falsely went to prison. Why? Because to allow any scintilla of doubt against Horizon would open the floodgates for compensation claims and possibly encourage PO staff to steal money and blame it on Horizon.

No, only a business can be charged. But the HSAW implications can extend it into the criminal, manslaughter or murder. Given the precedents, I see no reason whatsoever to recognise the coincidental or accidental element of manslaughter, given the ease with which they throw murder at the spouses of misericordia suicides, I see no reason whatsoever for such not to be laid against her. And in case anyone tries to argue compensation law, I counter with the reality law cannot be backdated.

Time to cough up, Paula --- your house should fetch a nice sum to go towards compensation ---- I hope you will get a FAIR trial (something not given to the SPMs) and (if convicted) will not need a house or pension for a long time.

Because only a business can be charged with it. However, the HSWA implications could be used to create a gross negligence charge foundation for mainstream manslaughter or, indeed, murder, if it can be shown that the degree of recklessness amounted to criminal intent to destroy life. Motive: protection of the Post Office's reputation. Means: destitution of a person psychologically orientated towards security, destroying their persona and with it, their self-respect and will to live. Opportunity: the criminally corrupt Horizon system, backed by remorseless and highly inequitable judicial system, amounting to POL acting as judge and jury, if not executioner, in its own cause.

At one point she said “Sorry is not an adequate word”. I agree. She should be saying “Guilty”. Remember - she was CEO when the Tories tried (and failed) to sell the Post Office. She was appointed to do that. How can you be on the Risk and Oversight Committee and then be CEO and not know about the very high risk division in your company? It does not stand up to scrutiny. Any ignorance is WILFUL. I can accept “protecting the company” from, say, bad PR or losses and even when wrong no prison is tolerable. “Protecting the company” is not an excuse when miscarriages of justice happened. When cover ups happened. Avoidance of prison is unacceptable.

Beer slices and dices Vennels here. She had absolute faith in Fujitsu because she knows bugger all about data and data-structure. As well as that, any IT professional could have told her about "back doors"/"trap doors", which developers routinely leave in complex data-bases, but she didn't want to know the boring stuff, she had no time for it and no technical understanding, that's why she's sitting where she is. These companies, (Fujitsu, Cisco etc.), can always take control of the kit they've sold you.

vennells should be given a whole life sentence like they did to lucy letby! but of course, the difference is that lucy pleaded not guilty to the killing of the babies during the trial, in which there were no witnesses to the alleged 'murders' & the evidence against her was only circumstantial! in other words the verdict was only assumption! the jury, of which there were only 11 jurors, was gender imbalanced, as there were 8 women jurors to the original 4 males! vennells however, admitted she had done wrong, although she will probably deny she was responsible for anyone's death!! her admission therefore drags other high profile people into the frame-part of the establishment! they must all be dealt with severely, for being complicit in this terrible crime of injusitce, which exposes the moral values of greedy people, that don't give a nun's c**t who takes the blame, as long as it isn't them! they probably all vote for the tory party! the scum!!
