In this song, and for this album especially, Mary's voice is that mix of sultry, smoky, and sexy that just tugs at something inside you, leaving you longing, hungering, thirsting for something more. She's got an awesome vocal range and control to spare. Even though she doesn't use it in this song, her lower register vocals are just stunning and something you just don't find in a lot of today's female singers. It's what makes Mary stand out in my opinion.

I normally have to listen to a new song a few times before I take to it. 10 seconds in I am thinking " wow, this is good "

This is my favourite song from Mary, but I prefer the simplicity of the mix on Songbook Vol. I. Just her vocals and a guitar. I find it much more powerful.

It must be difficult being a country music songwriter trapped in a British pop music culture! Try that song on a B-bender telecaster with a couple of big acoustic dreadnaughts and a steel guitar as backup and you have something Carrie Underwood or Tylor Swift would record.

I love this take on this song. I was just talking about it with my wife, saw this posted, and was delighted to hear this version with the added instrumentation.
