When I saw The Dark Knight on a poor quality DVD at home as a teenager, I remember thinking “Wow, okay.. that’s something I’ve never seen before”. It was the first time a film had truly captivated me. So when Inception came out a year later I decided to go see it in the cinema for a better experience - and I was completely blown away. It showed me the possibilities were endless with this art form and ever since I’ve been a massive fan of Chris’ work. I’m sure I’m not alone - Chris has raised an entire generation of film buffs and yet with Oppenheimer, he somehow raised the bar even further. An astonishing film from one of the very best filmmakers there’s ever been. So very well deserved.

After 20 years of films like Memento, The Dark Night Trilogy, and Inception. Christopher Nolan's hard work finally paid off and earned him his long awaited and deserved Oscar

1 Christopher nolan 2 Yorgos lanthimos 3 Martin scorsese 4 Justine triet 5 Jonathan glazer At least since Inception he should have already had his Oscar for Best Director. They ate a lot of shit to give Christopher nolan his moment. I wasn't asking for Oppenheimer to win Best Picture, the only thing I was asking was for Christopher nolan to win Best Director.

He was beautifully childlike in the way that he kept looking at that Oscar. I got the sense that he'd been dreaming of that moment for most of his life. One of the most hard-earned and well-deserved Oscars in film history...

People have chafed at Nolan being described as the next Kubrick or Malick -maybe because it’s obvious: he’s the next Spielberg! He’s already made his thriller, his 2001 inspired sci-fi movie, his action-adventure trilogy, his war film, his personal statement (I think that was Inception), and now his epic historical drama. Now when do we get the Nolan musical, or Nolan Peter Pan?

Steven Spielberg needs to be way more open about frequently collaborating with his previous actors. Christopher Nolan won 2 Oscars because he acknowledged the value and significance of collaborating in order to succeed.

From Sugarland Express to Schindler‘s List: 19 years. From Memento to Oppenheimer: 23 years. Spielberg had his Indiana Jones trilogy and had to wait unnecessarily to be rewarded by the Academy. Christopher Nolan had his Dark Knight trilogy and had to wait unnecessarily to be rewarded by the Academy. Two legends with similar trajectories.
