Even after having the figures on the table watch the nomination list, they still took the time to bring them over to the stage, and I love it, especially that gold Goji!

I can only imagine how difficult it was to give a expectance speech while holding back tears and speaking in a language that you are barely familiar with.

People say Godzilla Minus One should have been nominated for Best Picture. But remember one thing: Director Yamazaki met Steven Spielberg at a party and was told by Spielberg himself he saw Godzilla Minus One 3 times because of how much he loved it. 3 times! Winning an Oscar is one thing to be proud of, but for Steven Spielberg to love a film, no other achievement comes close.

The issue with Best International Film is that it wasn't eligible, the window for that is different for the rest of the categories (it ends in October). This does, of course, mean that Godzilla Minus One could be nominated for next year's Oscars, if Japan decides to get cheeky about it :D.

Superman Returns is supposed to the third Superman film to the Christopher Reeve films, ignoring the actual third and fourth films. It's the same here, except they aren't replacing any other films.

The average budget of the other nominees was **$205 million**. Godzilla Minus One's budget was $12 million. Incredible!

​@@pendafluxMy thoughts exactly. Peter Jackson's King Kong is gorgeous in places and obviously a labor of love and not anything near a bad movie but it's too long and too much. I still prefer the 1933 King Kong and the Monsterverse Kong movies if I'm being honest with myself..

We were so close to seeing another Kong get an Oscar a couple years back. 'Kong: Skull Island' got a Nomination for Best VFX. Forgot who they lost out to though...

Never would I have thought of hearing Arnold Schwarzenegger saying "Godzilla" as the winner of Best VFX... The best way of celebrating Big-G's 70th anniversary!!! Congrats Minus One crew, you earn this!!!!

This surely did. Many big figures of the Hollywood industry were astonished the Hollywood industry and many visual effects artists. Even Steven Spielberg said it was incredible :)

After 70 years, it's finally happened.... Huge congratulations for Takashi & the crew for making not only a great G flim, but just an great film in general. Long live the Big G❤

Dude, the Godzilla action figures, I love it so much!!

So happy for them! Imo Godzilla minus one is the best Godzilla movie of all time! And with a roughly 10-15 million dollar budget, it looked better than most Hollywood blockbusters! Excellent work!! Congrats to everyone involved!

​@@HermaphroGynandroNot only is that not true, that's not even true for Godzilla. The original was political as fuck. Shin Godzilla more recently was also politically themed, and is widely considered one of the best in the franchise. Even Godzilla -1 was blatantly pointed at how the government at the time viewed their own people as disposable, and explicitly framed America as abandoning Japan to the whims of the angry lizard so they don't make Moscow mad. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean political messaging isn't there.

This is the second time two Japanese productions have won an Oscar! (Last time was from 2008)

Winning on the same night as Oppenheimer no less lol. Poetic in more ways then one. Congrats to the SFX team for their historic win. Should have gotten a best picture nod as well. Yes, it is that good here. I loved the mini statues as this was Godzilla's night as well. Not to mention justification for lower budget films which in this arena deserve a long overdue revival.

Godzilla Minus One made the titular monster frightening again and had well-developed human characters for audiences to care for. Godzilla Minus One impressed viewers with its visual effects for Godzilla and the carnage he caused.

Not only was it a historic night for Godzilla, but also for old Batman-based grudges! Love it!

Godzilla minus one is now the greatest Godzilla movie of all time, well deserved. Masterpiece

For those who had trouble understanding parts: "My career began 40 years ago after the shock of seeing Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. To someone so far from Hollywood the possibility of standing on this stage seemed out of reach.
