Christopher Hitchens vs. Sean Hannity: You Don’t Seem Like You’ve Read Anything
Burgis and Payne talk Hitch and Hannity talking God. Hitch deploys a Hitchslap or two. Burgis and Payne analyze the dual way in which Fox News would deploy Hitch -- alternately as respected expert and hated heel.

Hannity is such a great spokesman for conservatives: he is passionately inarticulate about his ignorant and vague beliefs.

IMO, Mr. Hannity believes and pushes whatever system makes him the most money. Were the zeitgeist to switch to progressivism, you would see him morph to embrace and push those values almost overnight.

What he should really do, is say: "Okay, what can I say and do so that the majority of you will agree with me, continue to make me wealthy, and keep sponsors happy? Okay, got it." This happens on the left as well.

I had the pleasure of meeting him once. I was waiting for a plane, in the bar, at Bluegrass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky. I looked down the bar and there sat Hitch. He was in town promoting The Trials of Henry Kissinger, which I had recently read. I went to the bookstore in the bookstore in the airport and snagged a copy for him to sign. I went back and introduced myself, bought him a drink, then he bought me one. We sat buying each other rounds of scotch for a good 40 minutes before his plane left. It was a *very* memorable experience.

Dear Mr. Hannity, If we are not meant to know or understand the “majesty of God”, then we should probably cease making laws that propose to understand “God’s will”.

It’s more severe than that. If we’re not meant to know the mystery of God - as Mr. Hannity claims - then how could we ever hope to have the personal relationship with Him that is the cornerstone of Mr. Hannity’s faith?

The one counter-argument so many people miss is when these jack wagons say we're not meant to understand the majesty of "god", then what is the point of the bible? Or ornate churches? Or preaching?
Hitchens said that he didn't think Jerry Falwell was capable of reading any long book. I suspect that the same is true of Sean Hannity.
I remember this exchange near verbatim without rewatching it. The most smirkable part is when Hitchens says Hannity gives him the awful impression of never having read any of the arguments against his position, and Hannity ejaculates, "I've read 'em ALL!". This conjures to my mind the mental image of a robed and bespectacled Hannity sitting a leatherbound chair near a fireplace, poring over a hardbound tome resting in his palm whilst pensively chewing on a walnut tobacco pipe with a sagacious frown of concentration. I'm picturing something out a 90's ad from Time-Life Books that tries to get you to buy the 100 greatest classics of the western world for just three easy payments of $19.95. (Sorry, no COD's.) It's exactly as cartoonishly absurd as his bluff. 😄
Section 28 of the Criminal code of Britain which criminalised public homosexuality of any kind and imposed a 5 year maximum prison term for things like holding hands and kissing in public, was only removed from the criminal code in Britain in 2003 after thatcher changed the laws in 1988 as a response to the AIDS crisis. Blasphemy was a crime punishable by prison until 2007.

So hannity doesn't believe in the first law of thermodynamics? Surprise surprise he probably doesn't even know what it is.
In order to agree with Mr Hannity's assertion that "we are not meant to know or understand the majesty of God” I'd like to know how he managed to pass on this rule or arrangement to us if we aren't meant to understand it.
This was so much fun lol

What I would say is that the interesting thing to note is that while in analytic philosophy the question can be posed as to why God does this or that or if He can do such things, in continental philosophy the question asked is under what circumstances does God appear. For Hayek God appears as a way of accounting for a certain class of institutions which form in human societies but which cannot be said to have been designed by them. Speech and the law are such institutions. We are told that In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Mind is consubstantial with speech and speech is consubstantial with God. That is, God is at once brought forth by speech yet is the bearer of speech, He is the product of mind yet is the producer of mind.

Because God either doesn't exist, or doesn't care about bad things happening, or can't stop bad things from happening, or actively wants bad things to happen. God is either all good or all powerful, but can't be both, given that bad things do happen randomly to good people. Personally, I find the first possibility the most likely. There is no God.

@@carlosjuliopHi. My opinion is that God is all good and all powerful. However, probably due to a lack of consideration in reincarnation we often assume that God let’s bad things happen to innocent people. If we consider reincarnation and karma or “reaping what you sow” then we would see the prospect that we are simply reaping what we have sowed either at an earlier point in this life or in a previous life. For God to fix our problems would be for God to interrupt his justice and deny us the possibility of growth… which would not be good. This is why God instead teaches us through the messengers he sends, to do the right thing. As it is through doing the right thing, what is really right (the will of God) that we will save ourselves as we would no longer keep reaping the returns of our bad deeds. Thanks.🎉
Gutfield is great
The thing I hate about discussions on god by atheist Is a fundamental misunderstanding of what God is. Read some of the works of Spinoza if you wanna know what I’m trying to describe. God isn’t a person in the clouds. God is the purest representation of goodness. Heaven isn’t a place, it’s a concept after life. Will your soul be at rest when you die. Based on the path you take in life, will you achieve enlightenment.

Spinoza was excommunicated by Catholics and Jews. And I highly doubt the Pantheism of Spinoza counts as description of the theistic god🙄 In the end it does not matter what you think...you got nothing but what you construct in your brain. Meaning...you have absolutely no evidence that your preferred version of invisible supernatural superbeeing is the correct one and you have no repeatable evidence I can verify or that I can test. Your claims of having a spiritual hotline that only gives you the right description of which version of invisible supernatural superbeeing is correct is quite a claim...🙄 The purest "goodness" is also the Intelligent designer of cancer, Swyer Syndrome, Crohn's disease and he/she/it absolutely must love spontaneous natural abortions, or why else unintelligently design the female birth canal too narrow causing millions of miscarriages which murder the baby and often the mother?

Religion and spirituality are different things.
Something was not created out of nothing. The universe, or space, has always existed and all it's elements that make-up celestial bodies has always existed. God in the Bible tells us He is eternal. He took this eternal matter and in his own marvelous way fashioned worlds without end. This includes the Sun. Moon and the stars, and yes the earth.

Hey I think you are both very smart and mean well, but honestly, you're both pretty terrible speakers for people who pride themselves in being educated and specializing in argumentation. Even for people who are having a conversation, your ability to communicate elementary ideas without countless pauses, um's, ahh's, and other pause words, is pretty poor, But considering you're producing a show that you expect others to listen to, it's just terrible. Why didn't you prepare what you're planning to say? It's disrespectful to your audience.

Why does the concept of a creator equal religion? A person believes in a creator. Therefore I’m going to become name the denomination name the religion, that part I do not understand because that entity does not speak to you. It’s just a philosophical concept of how we got here. Oh a creator therefore, I’m going to be filling in the blank. That part I don’t understand that is dictated by culture. Obviously not God.
