I've listened to a handful of Boteachs speaking engagements. He's a bit more boisterous than the average...anyone. Homie got a tone and a surplus of volume to boot. Not sure it's fair to liken him to anyone other than himself.

Religion is purely based on emotion. There’s no logic or fact behind it. If it’s one of the three dreaded Abrahamic religions then you’ve got to the deal with the “either you’re with me or you’re my enemy” mentality.

When stripped of your basic humanity for several months to a few years for acts that are deemed by and profited by religious, corporate interests with no recourse whatsoever will steer thinking in a certain direction. A person who lacks internal fortitude facing the all mighty us government most often turns to religion honestly or in most cases taking and having to pass religious education just to be released early. It's pure evil, even by the standards of the Ole haysews de krisco

I came looking for this comment. Whenever I calmly answer my Christian friends/family questions with logic and sense they get mad and start yelling or crying while I'm still calm. They're mad they have no evidence to support their claims or belief in miracles. So they panic and get loud or angry.

Furthermore, the Bible itself in its underlying structure has purpose to the way it is constructed that goes far beyond the ability of ancient peoples just to make up from whole clothe while maintaining consistency of the text throughout. There are layers of structure and layers of meaning that derive from the language, from the arrangement of the words, from the arrangement of the letters, frequency, etc.

The moral case for God is "thou shall not kill?" and that this is absolute and sacred? That was a poor choice, and fairly empty morality - also pre-dated by the Code of Hammurabi which was not a revelation from Yaweh. (note, Hitchens gave him the out of "thou shall not murder," but it wasn't accepted or noted) After listing people killed by various dictators, the Rabbi quickly transitioned to "just war" rhetoric about Iraq ... but, didn't God say no killing? Is "just war" just harsh words?

The truth is scary, there are no saviors, politicians or aliens that are going to save us and rescue us from the dilemma of being human. Accepting this realization and not retreating into the cozy mental and infantile safety of religion is to accept the terrible responsibility of being a truly conscious human being.

The books allowed into the anthology are allowed based specifically on their consistency. That you haven't studied the stuff in context is your problem, not ours. And when you guys run on at the lip over "inconsistencies," they always wind up to be issues where you don't know what you're talking about, haven't bothered with context, and take issue anyway. Seems that Critiques of the Bible are required to forget basic grammer and word use.

I might further say that if the general public were as ADHD when it comes to reading for comprehension as Bible Critics are, the world would be illiterate and the Book publishing business would dry up. There are apparent contradictions if one doesn't know his stuff. When one does, not so much. Can't say I'm immediately aware of any paradoxes caused in the scriptures either. They may turn normative human sense on it's ear now and then because humans don't look at things the same way God does.

Funniest part of this is when the titanus rabbi was bellowing about evolution being a disproven theory that has no transitional forms to speak of, the camera goes to hitchens. Lol it is the closest to actual mind reading ive ever come to haha.

As long as an individual needs or wants an anthropomorphic god they will psycho-spiritual need and/or want one. Only those who can deal with uncertainty and thus who are willing to think for themselves will outgrow an anthropomorphic god. And yet, thinking requires making choices that go beyond holy books and what many of the great sages have said about this or that. It means sometimes standing against the majority. Jesus found out the truth of that first hand... and you might too. And yet, do I believe in God? Yes, but not a god made in the image of man... 'the big Santa Clause'. I believe in an omnipresent and omniscient God-Universe... directly in front of each us. I believe the Truth is... Self-evident. CVD

Surely there must have been a rigid contract, to compel Hitchens to sit through the rantings of a fanatic that was sold to him as a "debate".

In light of the hawking epstein island revelation. Shmuleys comment he likes to hold babies seems a bit weird.
