Christopher Hitchens -- Speaking Honestly About Hillary Clinton

NEW Speaking Honestly About Conspiracies • Speaking Honestly Abou...
Speaking Honestly About Militant Islam • Christopher Hitchens -...
Christopher Eric Hitchens (13 April 1949 - 15 December 2011) was an Anglo-American author, literary critic and journalist.
He contributed to New Statesman, The Nation, The Atlantic, London Review of Books, The Times Literary Supplement, Slate and Vanity Fair. Hitchens was the author, co-author, editor and co-editor of over thirty books, including five collections of essays, on a range of subjects, including politics, literature and religion. A staple of talk shows and lecture circuits, his confrontational style of debate made him both a lauded and controversial figure. Known for his contrarian stance on a number of issues, Hitchens excoriated such public figures as Mother Teresa; Bill Clinton; Henry Kissinger; Noam Chomsky; Diana, Princess of Wales; and Pope Benedict XVI. He was the elder brother of the conservative journalist and author Peter Hitchens.
A noted critic of religion and an antitheist, he said that a person "could be an atheist and wish that belief in god were correct", but that "an antitheist, a term I'm trying to get into circulation, is someone who is relieved that there's no evidence for such an assertion".[13] According to Hitchens, the concept of a god or a supreme being is a totalitarian belief that destroys individual freedom, and that free expression and scientific discovery should replace religion as a means of teaching ethics and defining human civilisation. His anti-religion polemic, New York Times Bestseller, God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, sold over 500,000 copies.
Hitchens died on 15 December 2011 from complications arising from esophageal cancer, a disease that he acknowledged was more than likely due to his lifelong predilection for heavy smoking and drinking.

    @Matt S Was he a registered American voter? News to me. Anyway, Hitchens was well aware that there's more choices out there than blue or red. Stop trying to force a narrative where Hitchens would've supported that tool of the elites Trump. He would never be fooled that easily.

I know it's hard to admit you've been fooled, but just because that convoluted explanation is YOUR logic, doesn't make it an absolute truth. Which makes it the opposite of a "fact", plain or otherwise. Not everyone is that simple minded. Hitchens certainly wasn't.

This is in addition to their many charitable activities, as opposed to Trump whom a court dissolved his "charity" since it was nothing but a scam. By the way, you can easily make $20 Million dollars off a best selling book. You are too ignorant to know this, but publishers routinely give multimillion dollar _advances_ to well known authors before the book is even published since the publishers are anticipating big profit off the books eventually.

    Yes I can see that-and I’m a God fearing person. Hitchens could have argued for or against on virtually any subject... as either way it was all about cherry picking the best argument to make a point... he could have argued why Hillary would have been a good candidate and made a decent argument... just like he usually went against public opinion-for the sake of not just going with the flow... most of the time I think he was right not to-even with not going along with religion-yet I think he threw out the baby with the bath water when saying God is a totalitarian dictator, in the negative sense... I mean, for example, just imagine you breed horses and they turn on you and kick you every chance they get because they think they know better than you-what are you going to do as the owner/breeder? Maybe you don’t cull them, but maybe you do-but either way it would be up to you and depending on the circumstances whatever you chose, they would have no choice but what you gave them... so maybe you just let them live out there days on there own-without providing for them, maybe you give them to ‘someone’ else... millions of parallel examples to make sense of a normal relationship between our creator-just like when we come to realize that we should respect and honour our parents-regardless of whether they ‘seem’ imperfect to us (simple minded children) or not.

  • @gregh5061

    @gregh5061

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@GMC-qo9xi The horse breeding metaphor doesn't make sensex. Horses can feed and take care of themselves, the only reason we breed them is purely for our own benefit not theirs. Technically, it's not wrong for them to kick us because we entirely restrict their freedom, ride them after taming them, force them to have sex with other horses that we choose , all of this for our own benefit.

  • @GMC-qo9xi

    @GMC-qo9xi

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@gregh5061 not a perfect analogy to make the point. But if you breed animals for a living, you raise them from birth and you have total autonomy over them, so that they will provide whatever it is you are breeding them for... you give them pasture, you give them feed, you give them shelter and they in return give you exactly what you want from them or else... (for the analogy to work, forget about the ethics behind whether they have some kind of moral right-as that is not the point-but the power we wield over them, where it’s up to us to find a solution in a way of our choosing, to get what we want from them.) So is it profitable for the breeder to allow the horses to become a danger to the people they would otherwise serve/be sold to? If they decide to rebel-what do you do? Do you keep producing offspring from those particularly rebellious horses? Obviously you are going to take steps to fix the problem... maybe you try re-breaking them, giving them several opportunities to conform to ‘your’ parameters for them to be able to continue becoming useful/profitable... but ultimately, you will turn them into dog food after a certain threshold is met... Now if you rebut from the perspective of being an animal shelter, animal rights advocate or something, then clearly the analogy will be lost on you-by saying well the horse should have equal rights to the owner or something similar... suspend that kind of thinking for the moment... and either way the horse only has as much rights as we (gov’t) ‘give’ them, even if they are entitled to more than that, we can still basically do as we please. But the point being if we literally created them from nothing, including the rules that govern their existence, and they decide to fight against that which is called ‘good’ in exchange for that which is called ‘evil’, then what is the remedy to deal with that... clearly in human industries we cull ‘sick’ herds all the time, and merely for the threat of potential future spread... it’s a last resort, but it is used all the time... to serve the greater good. So it’s no different... If there is going to be any kind of functional totalitarian dictatorship-it can only be with the very creator of ‘justice’... the ‘law’... which is not made by mortal man-it’s literally a created thing. And no matter what our position is-unless we decide ‘nature’ itself is ‘evil’ (based on man’s judgment) and should be thwarted-we can all see and agree how cause and effect reveals the existence of the laws of the universe... So for example, even if I disregard the moral spiritual laws of ‘God’-I still can understand, as I can’t escape the fact that if I live a certain way that we would generally describe as being ‘evil’, by say exploiting the natural resources around me for my own ‘selfish’ enrichment, to the point where said natural resources can no longer restock/replenish, or whatever the case may be, only to then create conflict with the ‘neigh’bors (horse pun) who relied on those same resources for their survival and are forced to then migrate-you can obviously see how they might feel the need to prevent the ‘exploiter’ from being allowed to continue to potentially exploit... Pretty simple logic... but it actually shows that at a point you also need someone to dictate-which in the above case is those suffering from the exploiter. Which is typically what ancient history looked like, but the exploited usually were just wiped out or forced to leave, as the wealth of the exploiter provided the needed safe guards to maintain their ability to continue exploiting, and therefore inevitably being the typical tyrannical dictator... So in the apparent vacuum we exist in, what/who should be the dictator? The cause or the effect? The creator or the created? Who needs who? Does the ‘bad’ horse choose to live on it’s own on the land of its choosing, eating the grasses there free of charge? The owner of the horse/land may be benevolent enough to allow it to live out it’s final days, but clearly not with its balls to spread its genetic information any ‘further’... ie. there is no place in the future (generations) for those that would thwart the will of their owner/creator. Hope that wasn’t as long and boring as it felt to write it... apologies!

    @@GMC-qo9xi I respect the time and effort you took to write that response! But my entire point was exclusively about the ethics behind the horse breeding thing. Then again horses (and almost every other animal with a few exceptions like dolphins and chimps) aren't intelligent enough to comprehend all these ideas of morality. Either way I'm an atheist and the entire argument about God being a totalitarian dictator is obv pretty silly to me as well. It's hard to hate someone that I don't believe even exists ( but I understand that Hitchens, Ricky Gervais and other popular atheists insult the *idea* of God and not God himself ). So I pretty much agree with everything that you said. I'm not exactly aware of how bad exactly Hilary Clinton was though, I'm not old enough to remember the scandals nor am I an American. Bernie Sanders seems to be the only trustworthy candidate to me ( although he's a bit too socialist, atleast his heart's in the right place)

Sargon of Akkad, while he's certainly not unintelligent, cannot hold a torch to that. But he's also ideologically different. I really doubt Hitchens would have had any kind words to say about Donald Trump at this point no matter how much he despised Hillary Clinton (as I think most people do by this point, even many liberals).

It is why debates are not as meaningful as everybody seems to take them. It is not a particularly good way to chose a president, for example. Reagan settled all questions about his age and loss of mental aptitude with the (probably prepared in advance and memorized) quip that "I am not going to try to exploit my opponent's relative youth and inexperience."

It's funny how HRC is tied to him but most American's don't really know who Rich is. He basically made all his money by purchasing embargoed Iranian Oil for pennies on the dollar when American companies were banned from doing this, then illegally sold the oil to American petroleum companies during the crude shortage in the 1970s, reaping massive massive windfall profits for himself. I was a kid when all of this was going down but it was a nutty time, with long lines of people waiting to buy gas all over the USA. The amount of money he made during all of this is staggering. Just don’t mix it up with ‘facetious’ although they have similar overtones and spelling, they mean different things, ‘Fatuous’ means silly and pointless, and can be innocently said ie. without intention to be so... But ‘facetious’ means flippant or joking about a serious matter and is usually deliberate.

    ***** he wouldn't have anything to say about Benghazi, Hitchens was a man who believed what the evidence says, not what the fox news rhetoric says. What is it now, 4 or 5 republican led investigations for Benghazi and not one has foubd anything? The so called party of small government keeps wasting millions in tax dollars on, I wonder which of their campaign contributors wallets are getting fat.

    Hitchens hated the Clintons, no doubt. But he couldn't say today she has no foreign policy experience, and like Sam Harris, he'd most likely see Sanders as plan, or lack thereof, to deal with radical Islam, as a disqualifier.

What he means by guess who's saying it is that he wouldn't state anyone else's opinion. It is so obvious that it's his own opinion, why does she even need to comment on it? More clear now?
