The treatment of the water glass very early on is an indicator that Christopher is boss. A natural wit to be sure.

The funniest thing is that Chris Guest parodied this interview in "For Your Consideration" -- same set, table with black background, and an interviewer that asked such long questions that the interviewee could never respond.

It's my least favorite of Spinal Tap, Guffman, Best... and Mighty Wind. And it is still incredible. Guest is probably my comedy hero as well.

My second watch of this and Charlie Rose is such a tool. There's a point where CG gives an audible sigh when Rose keeps prattling on and not letting him answer. Priceless.

Love his facial expressions. When he's trying to take a sip of water at 0:58 but is waiting for Rose to finish his sentence. By 1:05 it's like he's thinking "Suuree am thirsty..." 😄

This entire interview is a Christopher Guest scene in it self... He's talking advantage of the already pretentious nature of the "artist interview" and playing off the delusional ego of the interviewer. He's fucking brilliant at everything.

That's absurd. He's being completely sincere.

He may sound American but he is English and so is his humour and ripostes - very much so . The first few minutes , the hapless interviewer had absolutely no idea .It went straight over the top of his head !

This interview conducted by Christopher Guest is remarkable. I swear he gets in half the words that Charlie Rose does.

I had only ever seen Christopher Guest as Count Rugen in The Princess Bride. No idea he had such an impressive film and music resume. He seems very effortlessly cool.

Jeez if only Charlie would shut up for five minutes you might actually have an interview here.

What Coltrane was to jazz saxophone, Fred Willard was to improv comedy. Two heavyweight champions of improvisation.

Could've sworn I heard him with an English accent in an interview, but man this guy's a chameleon.

Watching the first 2.5 minutes with no sound tells the whole story.

What an awkward interview - but as we learned later on, Charlie Rose really liked the ladies. 😀

I think the problem is that most of what he says he 'looks for' at 11:36 is stuff that the interviewer largely doesn't have. Christopher Guest is brilliant! Sadly the interviewer is not.

God, what an awful interview by Charlie Rose. He told you like 20 times, he doesn’t do jokes!!! Charlie talked over Guest constantly. Honestly, Jiminy Glick could have done a better job.

Not sure why people think this was a bad interview. Rose has a conversational style of interviewing but he did make the same mistake other interviewers have made about Guest - that he’s up for laughs and cutting up. Guest appears to enjoy trapping interviewers by being morose and drab; a bit of a gotcha game of “don’t act like you what I’m all about or I’ll try to embarrass you.”

Spinal Tap's 100% improvised? Fuckin hell......

Christopher is a HARD interview. He's surprised & slightly offended by everything.

I do think he's very defensive. Every interview I've seen he has been offended by something, which surprised me.

Charlie's problem is he CAN'T think off the top of his head...like most comedians are able to. The other problem is he tries to.

Funniest thing I've seen in a while.

How long after this did Charlie Rose get fired for sexually harassing employees? He was also an annoyingly pretentious interviewer, to the point that he should be one of Guest’s characters.

A mockumentary is just a fake documentary, which is what Spinal Tap was. I don't see the problem in calling it that.

Jesus what an embarrassment. Charlie is trying so hard to play off Christopher, and failing so badly. Even if he had it (which he clearly doesn't), there's a time and a place for it.

Charlie Rose was just awful. Unprepared. Listless. Uninformed. Lost. Just awful.

A bit disingenuous to say they're not mocking their subject matter. It's at the very least satire.

I miss Carlie Rose. If he could have just kept his robe closed.
