I had a friend growing up who would speak to his parents in Arabic then turn around and talk to us in English and we asked him once did you realize you were just speaking Arabic and he said no. Being bilingual is fascinating to someone who isn’t, I mean as you say you didn’t even really pick up on it as it’s all just words you understand. to repeat myself, fascinating.

So true. In Germany you (normally) have to speak at least three languages to be allowed to attend university. I learned three foreign languages in school and two at university (one was Latin, though, that doesn't count).

it's also impressive in the UK because learning a language isn't compulsory. You're very lucky you have to learn languages in school. It's nobody's fault their country doesn't have the same curriculum.

@@bluebellbeatnik4945 Absoutely, but I believe that every person of this new generation, meaning age 20-35, should at the very least be fluent in 2 languages. It's necessary in a globalized world to communicate beyond your immediate vicinity.

I mean, Austria fits like 57 times in USA or Canada and every country within a 500km radius speaks a different language. Here, in Canada, you can drive 24/24 for 7 days straight and you still haven't left the country and everyone speaks the same language, except Québec, which I hail from and of course, I speak French too.

In an interview, Tarantino said he thought he will never be able to find an actor for Landa's role, because he needed someone who speaks English, German, Italian and French fluently and also someone who will have the charisma of Landa's character. Luckily, he found Christoph Waltz, just the perfect guy for Landa's role and an incredible actor.
