I see that in Latin based languages. I find that when I stubble speaking Spanish, I’d get intimidated thinking that I would get ridiculed. But for the most part Spanish speakers encouraged me to keep trying and were just happy to see I had an interest in Spanish. I also found the more I started to understand spanish that other speakers aren’t perfect either and don’t always follow every rule in grammar so when I try to be perfect I sound unrealistic like a robot lol.

@@JadedKate No it's not. There's different accents, expressions and slang that gives different colors to the language, but French is French. English, Australians and Americans all speak English despite sounding a bit different, don't they ? And I believe they can all understand each other fairly well. Aside from slang and expressions, French Canadian understand the vast majority of what French say, despite the accent. Because in the end, it is still French. But strangely, some French don't understand French Canadians... at all. And of course, possibly foreigners speaking decent French too. And the explanation for that is simple ; the ones that don't understand don't because they are not even trying to and that superiority complex that makes them shake a finger at a foreigner for trying to speak a language, and a difficult one at that, that is completely foreign to them instead of being grateful for the effort is the same reason why they don't. Of course, there can be exceptions with some regional accents that may be hard to understand even for fellow French or French Canadian. But those are indeed exceptions.

As a Serb, I can confirm, we have crazy curses that are not always logically translatable (due to cultural meaning), that can go on and on in a sentence that can be as long as you want it or need it to be to express your emotion, we have double negation that is often used alongside a lot of adjectives. But, if someone goes that far in cursing, he/she is considered aggressive and primitive. P.S. I'm a big fan of Christoph Waltz, he's at another level really.

Of course the whole world knows the best langue to curse is Hungarian, as it not only a harmonic and beautiful language (as well as one of the hardest ones to learn) but it's well known for being able to curse for a minute straight (single sentence), and never really repeat a word while doing that..

When you are interviewing mr Waltz do two things - Let him speak & And bring him on the show Solo P.S. Spaghetti Westerns were coined bca the Italians were so good at churning out Western movies - on a large scale due to Sergio Leone and easy to get horses and women to act 😀 besides they do know how to make the best Spaghetti Pasta Pizza in the world ❤

Je valide absolument ce qu’il disait de les français, car j’avais la même situation. A chaque fois je me trompe en parlant ou même je prononce mal un seul mot. Ils se font tout énervés comme si j’avais tué où embarrassé ses dignités ou j’les ai pas personnellement respecté, et en même temps ils parlent rien que sa langue maternelle. Sauf le francais et au moins ( aye ) et ( aw ar ou ) ou ( iy speak anglais) 🤣

seriously, grow up. YOU don't need more christoph. You sound like a fkn child. You're annoyed with someone who HAS EVERY RIGHT TO BE THERE IN A JOINT INTERVIEW and who is there to work and promote her product? Really? What are you, 12 years old? This isn't Christoph's interview, it's a joint interview and in fact he waffles for most of it. It might be the fault of the production company who put this up on youtube and gave it a poorly reflected title since once again, it's a joint interview.

what's contrived about it? that's how all of our late night shows are in the UK - Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross. Is there any format that is not contrived considering everything is 100% always planned and nothing is ever a fluke, you know, since they're making a show and it doesn't fall out of the sky?

Don't worry, many French even do this with other native french speaker (from outside of France) too. It's as if an American would tell an Australian that he doesn't speak properly... The arrogance. I think learning a few basic words of the foreign country you are visiting is just a simple act of respect and therefore should be appreciated in return. It may not sounds perfect, but at least they're making an effort !
