    Based on this video I'd rank his skills as follows: 1. Serbian 2. English -- these two are native or on par, at least in the professional context 3. Italian 4. French 5. German 6. Spanish --- the above are the languages in which he can have a conversation or improvise, with increasing difficulty -- 7. Portuguese - he basically repeated what Kuerten said, but next he came up with a proper sentence 8. Arab, Chinese, Japanese - in these 3 he learned a few basic phrases by heart, but his effort to pronounce Chinese correctly speaks for his linguistic prowess!

    Melania Trump is also from former Yugoslavia, yet her only more or less decently spoken language (beside her native Slovene) is English - and when I say "more or less" I mean it is not exactly elegant or sofisticated. Maybe she did speak French and Italian well when she was working in France and Italy, but noawadays they clearly suck.

  • @alexeigoukov1109

    @alexeigoukov1109

    @@iva068 It very much depends on the concrete person and their individual abilities, attitudes and the opportunities they've had to learn languages. E. g. I am Russian, yet I have got seven working languages. I'm bilingual in Russian and German, since I moved to Germany when I was 9 years old. I speak and write fairly fluent English, as you can see for yourself (at least the writing part) and my other working languages are Italian, Spanish, French and Catalan, even though I don't get to practice them all with equal frequency. I've met fellow Russians with great Italian and French skills. So you cannot really generalise the way you do, "people from nation X are good at it", "people from nation Y are so-so" and "peoply from nation Z are terrible at it".

    @@isidorastojanov5500 It is not disrespectful to say that Djokovic does not speak all the languages he speak equally well. His English is outstanding, his French, German and Italian are impressive, too (even if in Italian he struggles for words), but already his Spanish has got serious grammar flaws, while his Chinese is just basic (and with a noticeable accent), while his Arabic seems to consist only of some of the most frequently used words. Overall, his linguistic skills are still far better than those of many people.

    Steven Senegal That's pretty awesome, plus Serbian, Russian, Ukranian, Polish, Slovenian, Slovak, Czech, etc are all Slavic languages which make Serbian and Russian even more common. I believe I have seen a video of Djokovic speaking Russian but I am not too sure where to find it. Would be pretty awesome if he did speak Russian since that's my native language, but I'll forgive him if he doesn't, he already speaks lots of different languages haha.
