Christmas cooking prep.... one of which is a DIS-AST-ER!!!
Another Christmas cooking prep video. Getting ahead takes so much stress out of the day. And a little show of the Children's North Pole Party.
Plus, don't believe everything you see online. I followed the instructions on the Pavlova recipe and it was a disaster.....
I hope you enjoy it anyway xx
Cranberry Sauce
Bread Sauce
Sausage Rolls
Pavlova.......
Bread Sauce:
Ingredients
600ml milk
50g butter
1 onion, chopped
6 cloves
6 peppercorns
2 garlic cloves
1 bay leaf
3 thyme sprigs
100g white breadcrumbs
4 tbsp single cream or mascarpone
pinch nutmeg, freshly grated
Method
STEP 1
Simmer the milk, butter, onion, cloves, peppercorns, garlic and herbs in a pan for 20 mins. Strain and return the liquid to the pan. Add the breadcrumbs and simmer for 3-4 mins. Stir in the cream or mascarpone. Add nutmeg, season and serve. Can be made up to 3 days in advance and heated up on the hob or microwave on Medium for 3 mins.
Cranberry Sauce:
1 cup (200g) sugar
1 cup (250ml) water
4 cups (one 12-ounce package) fresh or frozen cranberries
Optional: pecans, orange zest, raisins, currants, blueberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice
Rinse the cranberries:
Place the cranberries in a colander and rinse them. Pick out and discard any damaged or bruised cranberries.
Boil the water with sugar:
Put the water and sugar in a medium saucepan on high heat and bring to a boil. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
Add the cranberries to the pot and return to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until most of the cranberries have burst.
Remove the pot from heat. Let cool completely at room temperature, then transfer to a bowl to chill in the refrigerator. Note that the cranberry sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.

Just the sort of video needed at this time of year - made your cranberry sauce last year too. I fold "undercrackers" as well - has my life come to this?... when I just about had time to fling them in a pile when children were young! Now I'm folding towels and knickers....and standing back to admire my handiwork!

I always fold underwear like that, everything fits nice and neat in the drawers and I put a couple of dryer sheets in the door to keep them smelling nice and fresh, socks and pj’s too. I stick a dryer sheet in any smelly boots or shoes and they keep them smelling much better, they absorb and dampness that might cause odours. Thank you for all the cooking tutorials👍🏼🙋🏼♀️

Hello Helen,,This is my second Christmas enjoying your Christmas cooking video..Helen I don't think you realize just how entertaining you are and its so natural you don't realize it..your funny faces, stories, Robs undercrackers ,ahhhh the baby's underwear totally adorable. I love cranberries.in America,,pigs in the blanket is meat wrapped in cooked leaves of cabbage,,so I was surprised that in England pigs in the blanket is sausage wrapped in pastry which looks absolutely delicious when cooked...The children's table looked so inviting, .

For US viewers - caster sugar is just regular white sugar (In the UK, granulated sugar is a much coarser grind, and you can buy a product known as caster sugar). The name refers to the shaker that sugar is put in to sprinkle (a sugar caster) and therefore has to be a finer grind. I have to admit - Pavlova and slow cooker seemed a little dodgy, but I was willingly to see if it worked. Did you use vinegar in the Pav? Makes the center nice and marshmallowy. Stuffing in the sausage rolls is a good idea. That's how I fold knickers/underpants too - I wonder what other people do it they don't do this!?

This American must learn about Bread Sauce! Seems like stuffing, but not exactly, as has milk instead of butter and hot water. Hmmm… Our family really loves stuffing/dressing (and homemade gravy!), and also love to have red currant jelly or cranberry sauce with chicken/turkey and stuffing type meals. Feels like Thanksgiving, even if it’s an average middle of the week meal with a store-bought rotisserie chicken. Also stuffing with a pork chop (applesauce and stuffing😊) Henry and his seven year-old sized under-crackers, unknowingly borrowed all those years ago! 😂😂😂 So cute that Rob had such an under-stated commentary..❤

Mm love bread sauce. & I enjoy making the sausage rolls. I also do Mince meat Wheels. Spread half a jar of mince meat onto a rolled out sheet of pastry. Roll into long sausage & cut into thin slices. Brush with egg & bake. Dust with icing sugar to serve. Sometimes a mince pie is just too much, but a much smaller Wheel is fab. Just enough to say you have participated. I missed the laundry video. Have you got a link. Thanks

Helen...need to ask you a question. I bought the nuface electric face roller after seeing it on your show. Been using it for a week now...followed instructions and used it for 5 days and then stopped for 2. Immediately after stopping, the next morning my face was all droopy and lines appeared worse. I find this worrying. Wondered if you had any problems with it, would be very interested to know. Really love your vlogs by the way...big fan...always enjoy them! Have a Happy Xmas.
