(Part 2/2.) Continuation of the discussion with Stefan from Brooklyn, NY. Stefan thinks that most Christians don't understand the true character of God. He also believes that the God of the Bible did not endorse slavery in the Bible.

Iron/Pacifist ....Nobody can out bible them..they are prepared. ..how?..By actually having read the bible probably several times... (unlike at least half the callers on their show!)...I go so far as saying most christians have gotten most of their bible knowledge from Christmas stories/movies on tv (like..Ben hur, greatest story ever told, the robe, the 10 commandments..etc...) and their little kiddie bible story books they got as a child, about mary and Joseph and the baby jesus (and the cute lambs and donkey).those shows are only rated PG. ..the bible would be more like (at least)..rated R, for violence and sexual slavery. and about being a good person while you do it!

@@aikerd9 Just an FYI: Genesis 22 doesn’t really have anything to do with Abraham’s faith. Abraham clearly knew Isaac was not going to die. The verse is about Isaac more than Abraham and the “lamb” that God would provide. It is a sealing of the covenant and a for shadow of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for mankind. At least that is the interpretation that’s been taught for some 2K years now. I am not as knowledgeable of the Jewish teaching of the verse.

Studying it and KNOWING it are two different things. Two decades is a JOKE when it comes to the Bible. Scholars who spent their ENTIRE LIFE in the word are still learning where they were wrong on things, learning new things etc. So thinking that 2 lousy decades makes a person infallible, all knowing, beyond mistakes and beyond ever being wrong about anything just shows your ignorance. Besides, the Spirit of the Lord constantly is revealing NEW things. So when an atheist who doesn't have the Spirit acts as though he knows it all in the Bible, that's when I REALLY laugh!!!

If you're doubting your faith as a Christian, *read the Bible* - not just the parts you like best, but the entire thing from cover to cover, beginning to end. I went to the Bible this way hoping to save my soul from the burning doubts, and I was freed from some of my ignorance enough to shed my fears. If all you read are your favorite passages... If all you do is open to a random page looking for god to point you in a certain direction, you aren't getting the full message. Once you understand how immoral the message is... If you can't then everything you wrote is irrelevant. The reason why the atheist experience hosts always make most of the callers look so foolish is when it comes down to it they don't have any valid reason for why they believe in God apart from its based on faith or indoctrination at a young age. There have been tens of thousands of religions across the world and not once has any of them been proven.

All he did was to re-model his arguments hoping that his stand would disappear somehow. Messieurs, i have listened to many of your past shows, and - you are part of my education in understanding that truth is simply that, - you are the best way for a person to grow intellectually and in understanding that the principles we live with are generally quite cut and dry. i.e.: you accept slavery or not and hiding the facts makes you complicit as a slave owner Thank you for your incredible show and teaching. pierre

JESUS IS NEVER COMING BACK GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL BUT PLEASE HAVE A GOOD DAY!!! GOD DOES NOT EXIST!!!! MORE PEOPLE EVERY DAY ARE BECOMING ATHEISTS, HUMANISTS, NATURALISTS, SECULARISTS, AGNOSTICS, AND NOT CHRISTIANS!! CHRISTIANITY TECHNICALLY STARTED IN IRAN!!!!!!!! BECAUSE IT BORROWED ALL OF ITS CENTRAL MYTHS FROM ZOROASTRIANISM, ITS TRUE!!!! ITS TOTALLY TRUE!!! THERE WILL NEVER BE A RAPTURE AND JESUS IS NEVER COMING BACK!!!!!!! Because the PEOPLE WHO WROTE THE NEW TESTAMENT, MEANT THAT JESUS WOULD COME BACK IN THEIR LIFE TIMES!!!!! NOT 2000 YEARS LATER!!!!! THE FIRST WRITING OF JESUS COMES 40 YEARS AFTER HE SUPPOSEDLY LIVED in 70 C.E. BY PAUL, AKA SAUL, IN THE LETTERS OF PAUL. THEN NOT AGAIN UNTIL THE GOSPEL OF MARK AROUND 100 C.E. SO FOR 40 to 70 YEARS EVERYONE FORGOT ABOUT JESUS!!! THERE WAS NEVER ANYONE WHO WROTE ABOUT JESUS WHILE HE WAS ALIVE!!! IF SO THEN NAME ONE!!! NAME ONE PERSON!!! I have a religious Studies Minor and A Bachelors in History (Currently Working on my Masters Degree) At CSUS California State University of Sacramento. Can you even debate me? I know a lot about Christianity because I am heavily interested in Theology, ALL RELIGIONS!! I am an Atheist because I reject all MYTHOLOGY Equally. I have read the bible several times even in its original Greek Language. SO buckle up if you think you can actually debate me, I would LOVE to debate you on Religion. But I actually use Facts and Historical Data, I just dont MAKE SHIT UP that sounds nice. If you start making shit up that sounds good, then this Debate is over and YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED to DEBATE ME!!!!!!! Think about it because I wont play nice. But I have nothing against you personally. I only have something against the belief system. Okay this is not a Personal Attack only an attack on the Belief System that has PLAGUED HUMANITY For way to long!! Its Time for Christians to be held accountable for their actions!!! CHRISTIANITY HAS KILLED MORE PEOPLE THAN ALL WARS COMBINED!!! CHRISTIANITY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE HATRED OF LGBT TODAY AND THE SUPPRESSION OF KNOWLEDGE, AND STOP TELLING WOMEN WHAT THEY CAN DO WITH THEIR OWN BODIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are some good Christians out there, so dont get me wrong, there are a lot of really good Christians. But there are just as many bad ones as well...... Westboro baptist Church, Pat Robertson, Ray Comfort, Kent Hovind, Ken Ham, Ted Haggard, to name a few What do you actually believe? We have to start there, What kind of Christian are you? Please just tell me what are your beliefs because Christians are not all the same, There are 40 thousand different denominations of Christianity. It's curious how angels names - from the Kingdom of Heaven - follow the same language pattern as the Hebrew structure! Lol. They all end with "el", Just like...hummm... ISRAEL, for example. Are you starting to get it? Those names were not invented in Heaven, they were invented right down here on good old Earth, more precisely where the Hebrew speakers always existed (Israel and Palestine) yes, since they never travelled the world and never saw anything past their stupid deserts (wich accounts for why the Bible doesn't teach a single thing about the real worldwide planet).

Actually only 5 angels named in the bible, Abbadon, Satan, Beelzebul, Gabriel, and Michael. So most actually not -el. I can't think of a great lot of Hebe names offhand but none of the ones I can think of end in -el....Joshua, Mary, Mariamne, Ruth, Moses, Saul, Abednego, Noah. That isn't to say they didn't knock off the book from scratch, just shown the -el ending doesn't fit. Actually there is a really good non religious documentary on the writing of the old testament in which they apply archaeology, science, and writing styles found in the bible to back up the conclusion they make that the final version of the OT was likely compiled by 3 different individuals around the time the Jews were in Babylon and that it was compiled from smaller scraps of writings, examples of which have been found going back to the earliest version of Hebe script. Actually a really interesting doc and done on a purely historical basis which neither promotes not attempts to refute what the book asserts.

Zigz Zagz That's because you "happened" to pick names that did not end with "el", but there are plenty of other names that do. Anyway, more than in people's proper names, Hebrew laguage uses the "el" terminology in casual verbs and nouns, and that's what angels names are, they are supposed to say something, to be like a little sentence (ex: the light bringer, the message carrier, etc). If you want more angel names i can give you a list. I have a little church book with a list of supposed angels, with their names and the story behind them.

Okay, that was funny. Answers in genesis simply points to the slavery in America and say that the bible says nothing against black people. Basically pretending to answer the question when actually avoiding the entire issue. It then goes on to claim that people who used the bible to justify owning slaves were not actually christians. The irony, cowardes and dishonesty is staggering. They sum up by pointing out that slavery was common at that time and place and that god chose to put down rules about owning slaves instead of opposing it directly. I think this is what the caller was attempting to point out. At least this is a somewhat honest answer, but it really shows how feeble a god they believe in and how the bible can not be applicable to any modern society.

So can the "context" be used to dismiss every description of sin in the Bible? Perhaps the passages on homosexuality also have "context" that makes them irrelevant--or is "context" only allowed to be used as an apology for the parts of the Bible you disavow, and not the actions you are giddy to judge? Can these Christians take a yellow highlighter to all sections of the Bible that have "context" and can be ignored, and then use another color to show the sections that are the unerring literal word of God so that we know which is which? According to them, it's all God's words, but somehow they know what he meant and didn't mean and they are qualified to interpret the word of God--even as they are allegedly being literal and fundamental. They can seemingly have the morals be absolute and relative, be both literal and open to interpretation and "context."

It's SUCH a shame that the human race was abducted by these terrible ideologies, because if we had not been, then we may have already found life on other planets and we wouldn't have so much misery and suffering. All a person has to do is take a look at the state of mankind and compare it to what the bible teaches, and it's clear why we are a violent war like species of animal.

When they bring up free will you could respond with the following: An action that one person performs with their free will, can deny someone else's free will. You could use an example of a serial killer murdering someone. God allows the serial killer to have the free will to murder someone, but this same action denies and disregards the free will of the person being murdered. Therefore God's system of allowing free will is faulty. You could also argue that there are certain situations where denying someone the ability to do something is more moral than letting them do it, for example stopping someone when they are about to cross the road because they haven't seen a car coming.

Christianity would agree God did know what mankind (Adam & Eve) would do. He could have simply not created us then. Fortunately (I think) He instead created us, allowing our fall, and set a plan of restoration for each and everyone. Of course this is as it has always been; a choice of our own free will. Many such as I once did will deny His very existence. Many others will never even seek to find. That is also our choice to make. The Kingdom of God could not exist without such a choice. Peace to all!

The analogy is meant to point out that just because being good may produce bad results, doesn't justify being bad, or not being good. If you're already logically convinced that being good is the way to be, you shouldn't allow yourself to be convinced otherwise, just because some people may take advantage of your kindness, mistake it as weakness, and/or because situations in the past haven't been beneficial. If its a question of morality, results are irrelevant, morality isn't about profit.

What I meant by the "is that relevant" question, is when you personally consider what is morally righteous, that doesn't change because other people have done bad things in the past, or even exploited that specific moral belief. If its good to give money to the poor, does it make it not good or bad if someone fakes being homeless to scam people? If you're nice to someone and they take advantage, does that justify not being nice to people? This is the mentality I was attempting to convey.

    16) I don't see it as 'my' rules... just the rules for convincing someone of something they don't believe in. People lie all the time, and if you want to convince someone of something extraordinary, you need more than just your word. I disagree with the latter half of your post. People can have insight through psychology, experience, and/or life. And they can be wrong. I think seeing something inside someone is just common insight, not proof of divine revelation.

I love the show, but... come on! You know there's no way anyone can bring up a valid argument for their religious beliefs. You _already know_ it's bullshit. So why be so upset? Just push the guy into a logical corner to give him a chance of realizing he's getting into a contradiction, and explain to him that when this happens it's because the premises are wrong, contradictory in the first place or just patently false. Don't get me wrong. I think you're doing a great service and I love that you're so well educated an all. Sometimes I just wish you didn't take it so personally. Signed: a fan of yours :) (Yes, I've noticed the video is from 2010)

The problem we have is that demolishing religious arguments doesn't change people's opinions. When did you ever hear one say "Wow, that's a good point. I might have to re-think my beliefs" ? They just keep on repeating the same (or similar) stuff.

It DOES change their delusions. Some may have never understood this before Some may need to hear it 100 times before they are able to begin reasoning again. Even Matt was deluded once, he admits it and has clearly stated that he wished that someone could have informed him of reality much sooner. Helping to guide theists away from their delusional feelings is worth it. Although I agree they make funny clowns for us to laugh at their nonsense beliefs.

@@thorpenator9148 Oh, I have much to learn actually. There are resources thankfully. It was not until after the Apostolic period that distortions began to creep into the religion of Jesus Christ. Prior to that there was very little debate of doctrine and theology and the little there was resolved with ecumenical council. It was not until 1054AD that such disputes created schism. The doctrine as was taught from the beginning is still available for anyone to learn though. We still have the writings of the Apostolic Church fathers who studied under the Apostles themselves and a plethora of writings from their their disciples known as the early Church fathers. This theology is still taught today in the Orthodox, Wesleyan, and several other apostolic Churches. I have listened to both Matt and Aron enough to assure you they stand in contradiction to what has always and still is Christian theology. Those that are willing to commit atrocity in the name of Jesus Christ? That blood will be on their heads and you should not blame an organization for the actions of some members, or in other cases, those who portray themselves as such. Peace to you and yours!

I stopped being a Christian when I read the Bible. God sure does make a lot of mistakes for an all-knowing being. That and how if the Bible is true, Christianity started unraveling right after Jesus left. The apostles start arguing about what they believe, so they separate and make up their own rules for churches they found.

I wish they would have combated his argument. He was stating that the stuff on slavery was the laws of Moses and not the morality from God. All they had to do was point out that it isn't moral to allow slavery just as it isn't moral to steal or kill or any of God's ten commandments. God could have easily had eleven commandments, but good apparently didn't find it morally wrong ENOUGH to warrant letting us know...

Nothing specifically pertaining to the video but, I'm 64 years old. I had a heart attack and triple bypass surgery 5 years ago. I think about dying all the time. But, not in a scared way. I just wonder what thoughts will be going through my mind, my last few minutes "on earth" as they say. And then, I also think about Christians, and their last thoughts. And immediately after they die, how they no longer have any thoughts. So, how can they know if they went to Heaven? I mean, we ( sensible people) all know that dead animals no longer have the ability to form thoughts. Do people have a soul? I find that hard to believe. But, if people have a soul, then I would think animals would also have souls. But the bible doest really elaborate on peoples pets (for me,dogs) going to heaven. After all, if your dog doesn't worship Jesus, how can it go to heaven? That seems like bullshit right there. If all the dogs I've ever owned don't go to heaven, I'm not going either! Even if there was a heaven.

Yeah, I had the same thought. And that, to me, makes It even more likely that It was all made up. I mean, if you were to invent some sort of God, so that you can control people by sending threats of eternal torture (to everybody who does things differently than how you tell them to do) ... Would you care about animals? No. But I personally would expect a real God to think about that. I Think christians just look at the fact that God would have chosen them among every other animal, which was just to be subjugated if wished.

    7) Blindness affects all of us to varying degrees. The Bible's comment about non-believers is part of the con I mentioned earlier. It's meant to convince believers they have "The Truth", as you do in this very post. Let's turn it around, in hopes you'll understand. You don't believe in Zeus. That's because you don't want to. You are in rebellion against Zeus, and just want to be free from his wrath. You are not. Zeus is real whether you believe or not. Deep down, you know Zeus is real.
