Wow! I'm speechless. The best (and most enjoyable!) version I've ever seen or heard of this piece in my 46 years of violin playing. He's not just a technical wonder. There is great elan and style to his playing that immeasurably surpasses his age. This was mature wizardry of the highest order. I just hope he will enjoy his childhood and grow up to be a happy, kind, loving, and well-adjusted person and not end up as just another burned-out prodigy who hates his parents.

Well the old Chinese professor who used to teach him once said, he was the one violin kid he'd ever seen who enjoyed playing the violin the most. And he voluntarily switched from playing piano to playing the violin... So I'd guess Christian Li is happy with the way he practice?

@yafargo don't say that about a kid. smoking? really? if you watch his interviews and listen to his playing it's evident he is very passionate about violin and performing. he has a joy for playing and does other activites that 'normal kids' do. while there are many prodigies that are forced into it by parents i don't think you can assume the same about everyone. just by listening, i highly doubt you can create such a compelling and musical performance if it's your parents forcing you to practice. it's true violin should not be all he is doing, since the stress from having to play for several concerts/competitions is very real, but that does not mean that all prodigies are kids who hate their parents and have problems in their lives. don't be so negative, you can express concern without hating on the child.

I was probably 8 or 9, when I was presented with this piece, as a violin student. I first heard it performed by Itzhak Perlman. "Mind Blown!" I met him back in 81, and I still have his autograph, somewhere in my posession. I had later switched to guitar, where I was able to play it more to my liking. Though I still believe Itzhak played it best. Timmy revives it very well. Especially since I have not heard any other violinists play it so well since Itzhak, aside from myself, as young, Timothy Young. Thank you for reviving such a virtuoso classic, in such a well presented rendition. I expect to see, and hear many great performances from you in the future. Well done! and God bless. And I hope you prosper well in your years to come.

Mighty god. :-O Dance of the Goblins is my favorite classical piece. It's one of the most virtuose, demanding pieces with a wide set of techniques required to master in order to be able to perform this song. The performance by James Ehnes is the best I know, it's musical perfection. To this day I was sure there is no other talent anywhere near him. I was in tears when I saw the performance of this wonderful boy. I don't understand how that is even possible at his age. This is as close to real magic as it can get. :-o I still prefer the performance of Ehnes over this one but what is Li, like ten? This might be the most difficult song to perform on any instrument ever and he nailed it flawlessly. I wish I could say this boy will go places, but where exactly could he go from here?

Yes it is and yet to him it is natural. Prodigies have always astonished me! Science has not yet been able to figure out what exactly causes this with some individuals? We know that it is not from countless hours of study and practice because they are able to play the instrument from the get go? So what causes this and why is it only with a select few? Fascinating!

This is truly amazing. I would hate to think how many hours would go into perfecting such a flawless performance of such a difficult piece of music. A labour of love for music. It is clear you enjoyed playing this, some parts you were smiling at. The only thing missing was a well deserved applause. Keep up the excellent work.

Oh. My. G_d. How do you do it, Christian Li? I am not a violinist, but I am astonished by how difficult every part of this work is. Your bow work is extraordinary! Thank you for helping me to fall in love with the violin forever.

Prodigies FASCINATE me! Just imagine you pick up a instrument for the first time and it is just as natural as breathing is to you? This is a incredible phenomenon that science has not yet been able to figure out!
