    What do you think about this vs a bergara hmr premier in 6.5 Creedmoor? I'm just starting into the long range game. I purchased a x-bolt medallion in 300 win mag awhile back to hunt with but don't shoot it much. I'm looking for something easier to practice with until I get more fundamentals down. & Possibly become my main hunting rifle.

    Ray I agree with you in the beginning you won’t save much but over time the reloading equipment will pay for itself. I have been reloading for years and don’t save any money but I shoot a whole lot every weekend and we all know trigger time at long range is important. As far as performance that’s undeniable for example my 6.5 Creedmoor AIMC 24” barrel with reloader 16 I get 2870 ft./s with 142 grain projectiles that is way above factory loads in my 6.5 PRC with 4831SC I get 3100 ft./s with Hornady 147 grain ELDM that’s a smoking load much better than factory performance on the average 1/2 MOA with my Christensen arms rifle and the AI prints big holes

  • @XRING

    @XRING

    4 жыл бұрын

    Well, I have had a lot of time behind both of them now. The Christensen is really nice because of how light it is. However, that means that it is less stable in keeping the sight picture while you are shooting. Basically, it jumps a lot more when you fire it. That being said, if you are doing a lot of hiking with the rifle it is crazy light and makes it a nice hunting rig. They are both very accurate rifles but I would probably give the Tikka a slight edge with factory ammo unless you intend to handload. Just my opinion on the subject.

    @@XRING Yes, I was worried about the PRC round in a light gun for competition. I know they make it in 6.5 but I'm also in California so I can put a can on the end to help with the weight. I love the design though. I think I'm going with the Tikka. Thanks again for the response.

    Watching you shoot reminded me of a question I’ve been meaning to ask someone who might actually know - does having a 90 degree bolt throw provide a benefit that you wouldn’t get from say a 60 or 70 degree throw?

  • @XRING

    @XRING

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey and thanks for the question. The 90° just gives you an easier bolt lift after firing. There is more distance and less cam to the lift when compared to the 60°.

  • @kennethbnorris

    @@XRING just hate how the bolt handle rides so close to the scope making you have to use a more underhanded grip to avoid catching your hand on the eyepiece. I guess not a huge issue when using a more deliberate action, but if you’re speed loading, well… It seemed really pronounced with this rifle/scope combo. I’ve just long wondered why more companies don’t use a shorter throw more frequently and figured perhaps there may be added benefits to the extra 20-30 degrees of locking or something.

  • @shaneclark5596
    @shaneclark55964 жыл бұрын

    People don’t give enough credit to how much money you can save hand loading. If you only load for precision rifle it’ll take a long time to pay the equipment off but if you load everything from 9mm to 5.56 for your AR the equipment pays itself off quickly and you can load 1000 round lots of 5.56 for $138 if you do it right. And my bulk 5.56 reloads shoot 1 MOA out of my BCM AR. That’s half priced ammo and it’s fun! With precision rifle you can go as far down the rabbit hole as you want. Which makes it a very entertaining hobby.

    I bought this gun in 6.5 creedmoor. Can you give me some quick info on the adjustable compressor it came with? What is the downside to just taking all the screws out? It just keeps the gun from jumping around right? Why wouldn't you want to take them all out and have less "jump" I'm sorry if this sounds ignorant I've never used any kind of compressor before.

  • @XRING

    @XRING

    4 жыл бұрын

    I immediately took that off and replaced with a muzzle brake for a suppressor. Many comps allow you to take screws out to act as “jets” in the opposite direction of the jump. Thanks for asking, I hope that helps.

    @@XRING have you had problems mounting rings to the pic rail? I bought some vortex precision rings and they have alot of play on the pic rail. I have no idea why. They are all the way tight and it seems the rings are a tiny bit too wide for the rail on top. The rings seem to be a little too wide and I have no idea what to do at this point. Is there an easy fix to that or should I just go buy a different set of rings. I'm trying to mount a vortex viper pst 5x 25 x 50. Should I go Weaver mount maybe instead?
