Chris Cornell Walmart Soundcheck Can't Change Me

he first (and only) single from Chris Cornell's debut solo disc sounds as fresh as it did during its 1999 release. Performed today with just a guitar and a vocal, 'Can't Change Me' gets an invigorating makeover. (The tune was also nominated for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance at the 2000 Grammy Awards.)

This song will stay with me forever. When I went to see Cornell live in Boston a handful of years ago, I told my wife that no matter what he played, this was one of the two songs I I needed to hear most. Well, he played it sure enough, but the most incredible thing was right towards the end he did this dramatic pause, just like he does at 3:00 in this version, and during that pause he turned his head and looked RIGHT AT ME, with this look that seemed to communicate "I know you wanted to hear this." It was... chilling.

At 2:50 Chris changed the lyrics from ''she's trying to need me'' to ''she's trying to grieve me''. This is so sad now that he is gone and everyone actually grieved him. It is painfully obvious his depression had returned during the last years of his life... :(

She can do anything at all Have anything she pleases The power to change what she thinks is wrong What could she want with me yeah Wait just one minute here I can see that she's trying to read me Suddenly I know She's going to change the world She's going to change the world She's going to change the world But she can't change me No, she can't change me She has the daylight at her command She gives the night its dreams, yeah She can uncover your darkest fears Make you forget you feel them Wait just one minute more I can see that she's trying to free me Suddenly I know She's going to change the world She's going to change the world She's going to change the world But she can't change me No, she can't change me Suddenly I can see everything that's wrong With me yeah What can I do I'm the only thing I really have At all But wait just one minute here I can see that she's trying to need me Suddenly I know She's going to change the world She's going to change the world She's going to change the world But she can't change me No, she can't Change Me 😭RIP Chris

I remember when this album came out. I put the CD in my car stereo and had to pull over by the third song i was crying so hard. I've never been so moved by an artist in my life. When i was younger i was a huge fan of Ian Gillan. Back then i never thought anyone would come close to how he made me feel. God bless Chris Cornell - he provided the soundtrack to some of the best moments in my life

I just thank Chris Cornell for sharing his gift with us. He could have kept it to himself. He could’ve written music and not performed it. He didn’t have to put his heart and soul out there every single time he performed. He didn’t have to burn out bright. But he did. I miss him so much. But I’m grateful for everything he gave me and and all his fans. I know he knew how much he was loved. Sometimes love just isn’t enough. But thank you, Chris, for sharing your gift. The world will never be the same because of your presence here.

I love "Euphoria Morning", and this song in particular. I don't get why his solo albums aren't more popular, even "Scream". The same goes with solo albums of Eddie Vedder. They're both amazing independent singers & songwriters. In the age of Swifts and Perrys... criminally underrated.

Don't know if anyone ever noticed, but at 2:53 he said ''She is trying to grieve me'' instead of ''She is trying to free me''.... Chills

Chris Cornell s music was not a radio easy listening music. His songs were complex, worked and refined. Some years ago I would have not understand it, so much people are happy with an Em and a AM....even Jose Gonzales sounds flat to me now. Thanks people like Chris or Jeff Buckley, and propably more, to extend the pop music to another level.
