Chris is one of the best guitarists alive right now...there's something about his feel and command of melody that trumps the shredders..just such tasteful playing.

Totally agree,he truly has it (wti) in spades!! Love listening to him play and hear his thinking 🤔❣️

If you haven't seen it already, check out his appearance with Martin Miller, when they played Purple Rain. They were both incredible. ✌️

"Chris is one of the best guitarists alive right now." - Covid must have been worse than reported then.
Love seeing Chris Buck getting more attention and recognition! Incredibly expressive guitarist!
My premise has always been "what you leave out is as important as what you put in". Lovely playing Chris, very soulful.

I agree, just endless shredding is great but boring. Listen to Carlos Santana, doubt he can shred etc, but what he gets out of one nite can be stunning.
Thanks very much for all of these great tips. I happen to have found all of them to be 'new' to me so, much appreciated, Chris.
Thanks! Great tips Chris. Can’t wait to have the album in hands! 🖤
Great comments! Going to definitely apply it to my playing.
Excellent video and great tips. And that's on top of great, tasty playing,,thanks!!
Fabulous instruction! Second only to the quality of your playing. Thank you!
Chris has a fabulous technique and is a lovely melodic tasteful player.
Thank you Chris
Interresting thoughts. And very valid.
Plug plug! Great job as always Mr Buck!
Thanks Chris for your ongoing inspirations! I love tip #5, the older I get the more comfortable I get with less - I always thaught I just get slower :)
Well that was fantastic.
In the early 80s, my vibrato sucked! My idea at the time was to bend a note a half or full step and use the vibrato bar looking back in hindsight that was pretty much the lazy way of using vibrato until I made it a habit to continue practicing for years until I actually got into a comfort zone anytime I felt like using it without a vibrato bar... great tips and great video!
Oh man that magic at 3:31 ❤
Always Cool .. Makes it look easy lol ... Pure Class .. Deserves the Front Cover .
Great Stuff!
Unreal Chris ,
This man can really play and gets amazing Tone.
I think learning the intervals on one string and playing horizontally could be a huge development for me. I f anyone knows any good exercises for developing this, please let me know.
1) buy a car 2) wash your undies and socks 3) regularly 4)buy food and beverages 5)sleep sometimes
What's the sweet Jazzmaster?
👍🏼❤️… less IS more… where are all the artists..? Negative space IS space…✌🏼
I think he realizes the better he feels about the direction his playing is going, the less there is to prove. Simplifying the sometimes stretched out sections of songs to create some contrast with fewer notes is the sign of a master. Iommi,Clapton,Angus.

I agree with you. Funny I watched a Tom Bukovak video earlier and he was talking about this exact same thing.

@@benallmark9671 If I had half the skills Chris is blessed with, I'd probably make everyone nauseous with my endless noodling. The less is more formula can be applied to most styles of guitar playing with great success. If you can get a Rick Ruben type involved in the production, they have a knack for being able to cherry pick the material and streamline the songs into hits sometimes. What most people wanna hear, may not be the guitar wizards best stuff.

How would one go about practicing tip 1? Take one scale and run it along just one string?
@roddiculousguitar
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, start with the major scale. Put on a backing track ,say in C major (or just a C major chord over and over), then run up and down the C major, saying the intervals out loud as you play them... 1, 2, 3, ... etc. Pay attention to the sound each interval makes too. Then can do the same with natural minor, pentatonics, etc.

Need to ask: that jazzmaster… Fender or Squier?
@kalkidasofficial

Modern Squier Jazzmasters are excellent for the price.

The one he's playing at the end is a Fender. You can see the logo come into "frame" a couple of times. I'm pretty sure I've seen him play a squire before though.
Hopefully Chris and his band mates at CB will get enough backing to do a proper US tour. I wonder if anyone's ever independently crowd funded something like that...
The only way is to buy even more gear! Fact! Just ask any guitar shop.

There's nothing wrong with that. It's as much a "collection" hobby as it is a "playing" one. I've gone a little crazy over the last 12 months though. The sales atm are causing me much anxiety as I'm trying to go "cold turkey". ✌️
Really interesting, especially the vibrato bit......given that you never seem to vibrato on a bent note (polar opposite of say Paul Kossoff) which give s very distinct sound to your playing......and shows the accuracy needed to bend and hold absolutely in tune. Not and easy thing.

Funny for me to hear (as an old guy with 58 and playing guitar for more than 45 years), when a young guy like Chris says: "The older I get, the less I play". How will this end someday?

like, i appreciate the effort; it must be super hard to find an excuse to promote your own music on social-media-platforms. like your own. LOL!

Who else would or should he use? He’s a great player and using his own material means that he doesn’t have copyright issues. I’m personally happy to get advice from him because he’s way beyond me in terms of technique.

Why the sarcastic tone? Nobody ever becomes too good at playing the guitar, so I'm more than happy to hear tips from Chris Buck. Granted these aren't revolutionary, but it's always good to do some "revision", as you can easily neglect certain aspects without realising it.
Tell me, please, do you really need to make these stupid faces while playing...?

Heck yeah! Tone is in the fingers and face.
@dalenixon9715

Which facial expression should we settle on, a neutral/ blank expression or a look of suprise or shock. And why do players feel the need to move around, just stand still or better yet sit on a chair.
