Just an FYI, rarebit is melted cheese.
Please note that the correct pronunciation of the tavern is: "Chew-ning's"; NOT "Chow-nings. One of my cousins is a direct descendant of the original tavern owner.
IT is a GREAT tavern. We don't get to Williamsburg much these days but when we go the tavern is a must.
Nice tour. I,like you all, have been there over the years. Unlike you, I never could bring myself to eat in there. I am kind of glad now and will continue that plan. I just go to cracker barrel. Remember when the crowds would cause bumping and you would have a line at that tavern. Personal: Wife has beautiful hair and you can see a good sport and a humorous person. Love those windows. Thank you.
I was there a few years ago and they were nice enough to let me snake one of their menus. I’ve re-created a few dishes.
The upstairs dining area is beautiful! That would be amazing at night with the candles!
Thank you for the video. Showing my nine year old daughter where her mom and I first met back in 2009 and how we had our very first meal ever together there at that Tavern. I proposed one year later while sitting at the same table at that Tavern! Now our daughter wants to visit! Thank you for the video, it brought back memories!
Another awesome video. Ya'll do a great job of reviewing these places. I've walked by there a few times, just never went in. Definitely will put it on my list for next time. Thanks.
Cool! I’ll have to try that next time! Williamsburg is so cool! Thanks for the video
Thanks for doing that review; I like specific information like this
I was a little disappointed to see that the outdoor seating was changed to modern picnic tables. I think that they used to have much more accurate tables and benches. I suppose that they were too expensive to maintain and didn't stand-up to the weather as well as twenty-first century picnic tables. Sadly, Colonial Williamsburg is struggling financially. That's a shame, and I've always believed that all Americans should visit there at least once in their lifetimes. If God would bestow billions of dollars on me, I'd certainly help CW substantially. The history of the United States is being subverted in some places instead of being augmented. I hope that there still IS a Colonial Williamsburg 25 years from now.
On your You're chili dog You missed out on having cheese. Because that's what the rarebit is cheese. Welch rarebit is cheese sauce over slices of toast. No rabbit.
Need to visit on my upcoming trip to Virginia
Very nice ! Thanks for sharing. It looks like a cute place to eat.
Need to try kings arm tavern as well as Christians Campbell when their open kings arm is my favorite always has been even if I live about an hour away
Wow! 12% sales tax on food? That's the highest I've ever heard of. We'll be there in the near future. Thanks for the video!
Did you have to hide the camera to film inside? Either way great video, as someone who loves williamsburg and who hasn’t had a chance to go Because of everything, this definitely scratches that itch 😊
I wonder if he ever figured out that rarebit is cheese?
