I really enjoyed your video ! I am a a old gunfighter, Two tours Viet Nam One in the Infantry and One as A Huey door gunner where I had my first experience with Helmet & chest body armor , never had a hit in my heads, Ballistic Helmet but took a machine-gun bullet in the middle of my late 1960's era chest armor. In those days The armor that Huey crews ran was so heavy that it two guys to put it on ,the wearer stuck both arms straight out while his buddy moved the armor flush with the wearer and wrapped two huge velcro ,U shaped strapped straps around the back while the wearer held the nylon covered plate in place. The armor was some sort of fiberglass and who now's what composite that every single crewman was thrilled to have despite the weight !! I just ordered a chest rig and it and the 6x8 spall coated side plates are about the same weight as my late 1960's chest only rig. I am leaning toward the HHV helmet that you just covered ! Have a Blessed Day !

From my limited experience I would recommend the AMP arms with AXL adapters for either Peltor Comtacs, Sordins, or they even have Howard Leight versions; super solid and comfortable. You would also need either Unity or TW adapter plates. I tried both adapter plates and the TW ones broke right away so would recommend the Unity ones. You can do this on a regular LTP to save money. So buy list would be 1) Opscore AMP helmet arms (hardest to source) 2) AXL RAC Links for your preferred earpro 3) Unity Tactical “Platform Adapter” 4) TW helmet of your choice. Installation of the AXL rac link is the hardest part of this setup. Easier on Peltors and HLeights I think and hardest on Sordins (though I ended up using Sordins anyway cause that’s what I like/had already).

I don’t think you gave bumps enough credit. I run the TW Exfil bump, I have it setup the same way yours is. You can throw it around all day, I’ve never had earpro pop off or have experienced “flex”. I can speak for the TW anyways… it’s a SUPER SOLID platform, you get an integrated metal Wilcox mount for your NV, super quality construction etc. Ballistic will not stop direct impact. Not to say it doesn’t serve a purpose. But if you’re simply wanting to run nods and mount all your stuff… you can definitely do it with a bump. Other than that, great vid!

Most are level IIIA which aren't rated to stop rifle rounds at point blank range. However, plenty of these helmets have stopped rifle rounds in combat due to distance and or barriers causing the rounds to decrease in velocity. Team Wendy and Ops Core are top of the line. Team Wendy is more comfortable with slightly less customizable rails while Ops Core is slightly less comfortable with slightly more customizable rails. Pick your poison.

Even if it's a bump helmet they're supposed to be rated for impacts. That way you know they will actually protect your head from blunt trauma, not break in regular use etc. Sure if you only want a way to mount your nods they're fine, except you'll need to replace the shroud for a real one. Even then the shroud could fall off. But if you're dropping thousands for NV you might as well get a quality helmet

Lol. Not trying to be a dick but why would you trust a 50$ Chinese made helmet as your main mounting platform in which you are hanging thousands of dollars of equipment. ( wilcox g24 Mount=475$, 3 hole shroud with lanyard= 130$, cheapest PVS 14 at least 3k) Team Wendy uses wilcox shrouds, Chinese helmets use out of spec copies that will have lots of play/slop. It’s not for everyone, I get that, but the second that helmet fails and you drop your tubes on the ground, a good, well made bump helmet will look cheap in comparison.

I'm gonna say what I think. The (general) reason to get a bump is purely to have a method of running night vision at lesser cost and greater comfort than a direct headmount or a soft headmount. Because those fucking suck. The other benefit of a bump helmet is that it provides blunt impact protection. You might choose it over a ballistic helmet if you have a neck injury or something (that's what garand thumb said in one of his videos anyways) For ballistic helmets, you could buy a $400 ACH and leave it bare if your concern is actual bullets and not much else. Maybe you just expect to shoot and get shot at in it, and you throw on some earpro. of course you can also throw on the NOD, headlamps and other gear, though you should probably keep as much as you can on the body. Also Ballistic helmets you should get ready to be raped in the wallet because one that isn't going to backface deform your skull in is either that $400 ACH that sucks to wear or your wallet's gonna have to grab its ankles.
