We recommend any brand that has an AAFCO statement and has undergone a feeding trial. The AAFCO statement should include two things: 1. Look for the words “Animal feeding tests” or “feeding trial.” Usually it reads something like: “Animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate that….” 2. It should be labeled for a specific life stage (i.e. Puppy, Adult, etc.) not All Life Stages Read carefully because brands can have an AAFCO statement through formulation only - those brands have not undergone a feeding trial. The feeding trial is what establishes the nutritional adequacy. A statement for formulation only will read something like: “this brand is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO dog food nutrition profiles for…” If your brand has an AAFCO statement and has undergone a feeding trial we recommend you continue feeding it.

Kate Regier I stay AWAY FROM PURINA! MY CATS NEVER EVER EVER CHOOSE It taste wise either, they HATE it!! Bigger market/brand sometimes =less quality. I now feed my cats 9lives; they are 14 & 16years old too. I also feed them a brand called "Variety Pet foods" in Englewood, Colorados Wet/canned food too & they actually list all the ingredients on the can! Real Vegetables are even used & can be seen. (can find on AMAZON). They Definitely hate anything Purina which is about 80% of what you will see flooded on walmart shelves. My advice is to stay away from Purina w/ the recalls + the fact that my cats even know better than to eat it unless STARVING. Look at Dr. Elseys & Science Diet as well my neighbors who used to be employed by a vet feed those brands only to their senior cat. They also dont buy anything Purina.

Also I give my cat a semi- rotated diet also give her a smaller amount of the dry and then (only sometimes & as MORE liquid in the wet which they need anyways dry literally isn't so good for them overall otherwise!) just wet but they need nutrients from both also said chicken meats are best for them They also said to make sure they're getting enough folic acid Not enough nutrients in vegetables for cats either I wanna try mixing the best of the best wet cat foods also what about semi wet cat foods!?

I have a VERY picky cat. Other than dry food he barely shows attention to wet food. Recently he has come to "accept" wet food but I can tell it is not what he really enjoys. It is like a half step up from his dry food. He loves these lickable treats I have found but they are from half way across the world and cost 1$+ each for just two tablespoons so I would like to make my own for him, plus the packages plainly say they are not nutritionally complete, unlike all the other treats I give him which while may be high calorie, atleast are complete protein sources.

The UK Food Standards Agency covers pet food legislation: www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/pet-food There's also the Pet Food Manufacturers Association. You can check if a particular brand is a member: www.pfma.org.uk/ Hope that helps!

My vet stopped me from feeding Meow Mix Dry, I had 2 of my 5 cats became diabetic because of it. Everyone in the house is now on Fancy Feast Pate, pate only no gravies, and my 2 diabetics are actually coming close to be out of it with Fancy Feast Pate and Insulin injections. No dry food at all it's all bad for them to high on carbs.

Royal Canin was great for my cat when he was a kitten but his stools were always extra smelly and runny on it so when he got older I switched him to Tiki Cats after dark food and his stool has gotten much better. I know people dislike Purina but their Beyond line the Wild Prey pate is not bad.

Absolutely useless and even misleading! No, it is not true that major brands provide good cat food. Most brands are the equivalent of fast food for humans.
