Choose Your Neighbors Wisely...

Mindee and Terrel called and said their travel snapped off two of the tires under load and they needed my help and my trailer. I ran up and grabbed mine after a few minor challenges and got to it. We spent the evening unloading the broken trailer and hauling their materials to their place.

Good rescue....now teach 'em some math - this is a multi-part problem: 2 axles times 3000 lb capacity each (guessing by the hub size), minus the weight of the trailer frame, equals a cargo capacity of about 5000 lbs.......next , 42 bags of concrete at 80 pounds each = about 3300 pounds....I have no idea the exact numbers on the pallets of block or the pallet of OSB, but I'm sure it all adds up to at least 50% more than the payload on that trailer! No wonder the axles broke.....glad no one was hurt!

0:41 Heath says 10-15 thousand pounds of building materials on the trailer. 7200 GVW trailer, ~16' trailer 1600lbs, leaves 5600lbs for cargo. Two to three times overweight. Lesson learned.

The skid of concrete in my opinion was already pushing the limits here, but 3 more skids of cinder blocks and and entire lift of OSB... then some more wood on top. What in the world ?

That is about 13,000 pounds. Simple math. The axle looked rusty and trailer was not in the best shape. Axles looked to be about 4,000lb each and tires are rated to close the same or a little more. Very much so overloaded.

yeh it was overloaded, those shitty 205 75R15 tires are rated no more than 3500lbs each ,looks like small dexter 3500 axles for landscape trailer.Just that pallet of concrete alone is over 3000lb with lumber and pallets of cinder block yikes .I would be concerned with that weak looking trailer tongue too

This reminds me of a trailer I saw at least every couple weeks for about a year. Typical angle steel tandem axle 16ft landscape trailer, except the people had extended the standard 12 inch rails up to about 5ft tall and added some heavy wire fence panels to close it in. They then proceeded to fill it to slightly above their cage with split firewood. The last time I saw it, looked pretty much exactly like this trailer, haven't seen it in 3-4 years now.

That was pretty neat - speeding up the video. Very entertaining. You are right about picking your neighbors. I had a physician next to me in CT. My 3 year old daughter fell down the stairs and broke her collar bone. My wife called me (I was about 7 miles away) I turned around, put my flashers on and was home in 8 minutes. The EMT's were two minutes behind me. Off to the hospital we went. They braced her up and sent her home in a lot of pain. Laid her out on the familyroom floor and there comes a knock at the door, my neighbor. He apologized for not being home when he was needed (he was in church). He checked her out; she had the wrong brace which the hospital had cut down because they did not have a smaller one. He called an orthopedist to have her seen at 8am the next morning. A couple of years later we had a REAL thunderstorm. The lightening bolt went through a neighbors chimney and between their twins each of whom had flash burns. There was Dr. Sands coming home from the hospital. He saw me, jumped our of his VW with his black bag and told me to take care of the car which was rolling. And that is the way the neighborhood ran. We all took care of one another.

Very fortunate that you broke down on a very nice wide spot on the road. At a neighbors front door. I am so glad that you have great friends and family that know how to drop and roll - when needed! :) It would be nice if you had forks for your bucket!

" we do stupid alike " ... I think that's the honest way of saying " We have the same sense of adventure " :-) " Owning" and "Having" is usually the same sort of thing . But in a case like this ... you could be super rich and Own just about anything you want ... You can only Have a good friend/ neighbor , and "Having" a good friend/neighbor is quite often worth more than anything you can " Own " In this video , I would say that Terrel is wealthy in the " Have " dept Maybe not so much in the " How to load a trailer " dept , but certainly in the " Good friend/neighbor dept
