Chomsky: Trump Radically Interfered with Israel’s Election to Help Re-elect Netanyahu

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is headed to a record fifth term in office after narrowing defeating former military chief Benny Gantz. In a discussion with Democracy Now!’s Amy Goodman, Noam Chomsky talks about how President Trump directly interfered with the Israel election by repeatedly helping Netanyahu, from moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem to recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights in defiance of international law.

Noam Chomsky, as a Jewish American, derives a great deal of meaning by being highly critical of both Israel and America. This hyper self-criticism, in his eyes represents a high sense of morality. But most people can’t relate, and should not feel the need to live like that and be like that. His audience worldwide should be no more than 50 people, but millions admire and adore him. Sad times for the world 😪

Goran Vlacic I admire Chomsky and appreciate the great work he’s done over the years but he does have his blind spots. He refuses to acknowledge that JFK was assassinated by the CIA, that 9/11 was an inside job - Israeli operation, really - or that Israel pushed the US to invade Iraq, smash Libya and Syria, etc., or that Israel controls US foreign policy in the Middle East or that we should all support BDS and boycott Israel.

It is only when the public has been mislead based on lies or deceptions (such as Soros is known for orchestrating), or if the actual voting process was prevented or tampered with, that would constitute election interference. Normal events occuring over the course of foreign affairs can sway an election, but that is for the public to freely decide on and shld not be deemed as election interference.

With all the due respect that Noam has earned, I must clarify that Bernie and others with him were addressing the war in Yemen well before the Khashoggi murder. Here is a FB post from Bernie Sanders, June 16 2017: [The Saudi-led war in Yemen has created a humanitarian disaster in one of the region’s poorest countries. Many thousands of civilians have been killed, many more made homeless, and millions are at the risk of starvation, according to the United Nations refugee agency. The chaos in Yemen has also been strategically disastrous for the U.S., providing fertile ground for extremist groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS, and creating new opportunities for Iranian intervention. But beyond this, it’s long past time that we took a very hard look at our relationship with Saudi Arabia. This is a country that is run by a hereditary monarchy, in which women are treated as third-class citizens. They have also spent decades exporting an ultra-reactionary form of Islam throughout the world. For far too long we’ve given a pass to a government in Saudi Arabia that supports ideas and policies that are fundamentally at odds with American values, and that have had extremely negative consequences for American security. I think the time has come to take a very hard look at this relationship, and assess whether it is actually serving the interests and values of the American people.] He was working on legislation in February of 2018, as well. Khashoggi was murdered in October of 2018.

Noam Chomsky puts so many points & facts in just one of his sentences that we should listen to his speeches more than once to grasp ALL his points, facts, & analysis. In fact, it's always a good idea to write them down and keep reading them so we'd not forget them. What a great man; in his age he remembers all his knowledge and history a lot sharper than most of us. Chomsky is also a great psychoanalysis; he understand the individual politicians in the personal level too, a lot better than we could.

I remember Obama declaring his complete support for Israel when he first got elected and indeed it is as professor Chomsky said, the issue has shifted from the left to the right. I am glad people are getting informed about this and hopefully 2020 will see some actual change in light of these topics.

Syria should have thought about the potential risks of starting a war before they attacked Israel. Further more, most of the inhabitants in the Golan heights prefer Israeli rule to Syrian.

When ethnic Arabs, primarily Jordanian Arabs, expect to gain a sovereign territory by declaring the end to a much more powerful nation which is backed by international interests, don't expect a positive outcome. The fact of the matter, there are 3 major global chess players: the USA, Russia and the PRC and smaller nations choose their backer.

US didn't have to interfere in Israel's election because Israel and USA think as one. Chomsky exculpating Israel's actions by blaming USA for it. Chomsky will NOT call out Judaeo-Christianity as the fundamental cause but merely blame politicians for it.

Let me tell you all who hate Trump & Netanyahu. It is people who voted in million for Netanyahu. He was not installed by Donald Trump. " Netanyahu is a highly skillful politician one who can stand up and rock the boat, then make the people believe, he's the only one who can save Israel from the Storm."
