Chobe National Park - Cheetahs + Savuti Camp Heat! | Episode 10 BOTSWANA SELF-DRIVE 4x4

asimplyfab.life/ We start from the Mababe Gate in the south and head up towards Savuti Camp through Chobe National Park. On the way we get some cheetahs(yes!), and more dusty, hot roads. And we do a small game drive around Savuti to visit Harvey's Pan, Quarry Hill (attempt), and the Baobab Gallery. Enjoy the blog post at asimplyfab.life/savuti-camp-c...
BOTSWANA TRIP PLAYLIST: • Three Weeks to See EVE...
We've slept with the elephants, been serenaded by hippos, found the middle of nowhere and it is in the Kalahari and it is called Xaxa, discovered the rich and complex culture of this land, floated on the mighty Chobe river. Drove the smoothest road/track and it is on the salt flats, battled the fierce heat for three weeks 🥵, made fire, kept ourselves fed and watered, camped wild, spade and toilet paper. Enjoyed some Safari lodge comfort, found a waterfall in Zimbabwe, become elephant whisperers as they walked right through camp, fantastic sunsets, got stuck (only once), drove some challenging tracks. Discovered the joys of a good G&T and the simply perfect local beer, become experts at making camp, campfire musings and early mornings, spectacular sunrises, amazing, smiling, friendly people. We now know how many cows to get married, there is only one camp with grass in the whole country, a fridge only stays cold for two nights. Cows and goats in the road, lions roaring at night, the Milky Way, loud birds in the morning. Lucky, lucky game sightings, absolute silence, cheeky baboons, thunderstorms that rattle the windows and so much more that will come as we remember. But most of all camaraderie, laughs and an openness and willingness to explore the unknown.
Join us on our mission to discover the best of what Botswana has to offer. We spent three weeks in Botswana to try and uncover the diverse natural environments and the wealth of wildlife. Botswana has a huge amount to offer the self-drive enthousiast, from the dry heat of the Kalahari, through the Okavango Delta to the Salt Pans of Makgadigadi.
So much out there - too much for one video, so here's the playlist as we explore the Kalahari, Maun, Moremi, Khwai, Chobe, Kasane, Vic Falls, Elephant Sands, Nxai Pans, Makgadigadi and Khama Rhino Sanctuary.
We spent a couple of days in Maun doing a cultural tour and a scenic helicopter flight, as well as a Mokoro trip in the Khwai concession. Vic Falls was an amazing bucket list visit as well as the obligatory sunset cruise from Chobe Safari Lodge. We slept with the elephants at Elephant Sands, but even more so at Nxai Pan. And Kubu Island really is as cool as everyone says it is!
We drove about 3400 kms, had an extremely hot time during the heatwave, bailed out of the Kalahari, learned about the local customs and culture and found a couple of cheetahs! The other Big Five were also ticked off with a lucky lion sighting and a leopard crossed our path. Khama Rhino Sanctuary is just off the charts with the lengths they (have to) go to to protect the rhinos.
The diversity is surprising and unexpected, from the dry and dusty CKGR to the wetlands of Khwai and the tranquility of the Chobe river.
We hope this will inspire and excite you to visit this fascinating, beautiful country!

Hi Elsabe, thanks for the comment. I don't have an answer for you because we paid international rates for a group, so I have no idea on SADC rates. Maybe have a look at 'Drivebots' on Facebook they should be able to help. And don't forget conservation fees, vehicle fees, park fees, visitor fees, bed levies etc🤷‍♂️😅

Yes! Total lack of respect from these guys... (I won't say where they came from but it is from Europe, and somewhere to the eastern part)
