As a player of 40+ years I'm just fascinated by the experiences behind the scenes - what made so many of the classic recordings great. Thanks, Joe! Your work is very, very important!

I was just about to leave a similar comment . That major version (Joe South’s?) he played sounded good but when he played it in his version , the version in minor , it added so much to that “haunting” feel of that classic song . Gets way under your skin .

I'm so glad you had this bit more of Mr. Young. This is just as interesting and informative as the others. When he told of the guys at the session trying to play like he had for the demo and him being presented as "the guy who actually did the demo", reminded me of the Elvis session for "Guitar Man" when everyone was trying (and failing) to play the licks like Jerry Reed. Finally, someone said, "Instead of trying to find someone who can play like Jerry Reed, WHY DON'T WE JUST GO GET JERRY REED!" Great talent that's been underappreciated in a direct manner even though recognized by a multitude who didn't know where to show their respect. The name in bold under the title gets all the credit but the names in the fine print (or unnamed) are just as responsible for making it happen the way it did. Thanks, Joe. Great job as always.

I heard Jolene on the school bus the week it came out. I was 10 yrs old in the back seat loosing my mind & falling in love with Dolly.Lol I’d never heard any thing so eerie & mysterious as when that steel guitar comes in. Vickie Hobson at Lynn’s guitars showed me how to play the intro. Took her forever. Lol She asked me why I learned stuff so fast with others & not with her. Truth be told she was a pretty lady like Dolly & I’d be looking at her pretty hair, nails, sweater, smile, jewelry-you name it! Never looked at her fingers what I remember.lol I was an adult before I ever new Chip played on all these great songs. What a true inspiration he still is to me and many pickers.

It’s amazing how the best musicians are thinking about rhythms and not sounds. This is just awesome. On most every video clip of this interview, if Chip starts to vocalize a tune, it’s the rhythm, not the tune. If we’re lucky, he plays the tune (in the rhythm that’s in his head). Very cool.

Just discovered your channel and what a treasure trove it is. Thank you for all the effort you put in to recording all these great musicians stories. We often only know their music so it’s fantastic to get to know them a little. I saw an interview Tim Pierce did with Ray Parker Jr, I’m ashamed to say I only knew Ray from Ghostbusters at the time but he had the most amazing stories. To be fair Tim’s full of great stories too and they’re probably both more than worthy of being interviewed by your good self. Anyway, keep up the great work man.

Scott… I appreciate you and everyone not only watching and supporting our channel and especially taking your time to send in a comment. I feel I owe it to you to at least read everything that is sent to me and respond if only by letting you know by pressing the heart response. If I miss one it’s by accident. Rarely there are those who say inappropriate comments that are removed or don’t merit a response. Thanks again for watching and commenting about our videos. Best, Joe

We never hear enough about the players and faces behind the instruments, mainly the stars and frontmen. So as a player myself, thank you. One notable exception was Frank Sinatra, always turning humbly toward the backing band after a performance to show respect. But as a singer/musician from the ground up, he already knew what it to took to get there.
