Chinese Steam 5 - China Rail Special - Da'an Bei (2000) - RARE

Filmed in March 2000, footage includes the last stronghold of China Rail steam where the Changchun to Baicheng line bisects the Ranghulu to Tongliao line. At the time of filming, Da'an Bei had about 50 QJs and a handful of JSs in active service. With the exception of JS 8045, QJ 6848 and QJ 6888 which were allocated to Baicheng, all of the featured steam locos were allocated to Da'an Bei. Steam ended in 2001.

Ironic how the opening scene is with the now preserved 7081. Hard to belive she used to look that rough.

There's another video featuring 7081 that was filmed in 2005. She looked a lot better, that makes me wonder if they were already prepping for the sale of the engine?

I seem to recall that 7081 went for overhaul soon after this sequence was shot, it was then sold to the Ji-Tong railway where it was one of the last working survivors. Following withdrawal it was purchased by a railroad in the USA

4:52 nice to see a QJ without the big plate in front of the feed water pumps on the pilot deck... I got a few like that in Changchun in'92 but seemed quite rare in the latter days of steam. Great video - did you know that the depot at Anbei now has a turntable with around 50 QJ/JS arranged around it? Check it out on google earth...

Yes it is QJ 6773, a few minutes later you will see QJ 6851 backing off the depot. If you look at the front end of the loco you will see that it's also carrying the toolbox for QJ 6773, hence the two numbers at the front. I will check out Google Maps!

That's got to be the nicest sounding steam whistle I have ever heard. British locos are too high pitched and the US locos sound like tug boats.
