Steam Trains At Speed On The Mainline - Volume 2
Sit back and enjoy another steam at speed compilation, looking mainly at the last 12 months of mainline action. 5 locomotives are seen this time, operating up to the maximum allowed for steam '75mph'.
Foot note:
Diesel locomotives "Tail Gunner"
The use of Diesel locomotives on some tours is because of operational reasons. Some of the tours run to destinations with no turning facilities, so the diesel hauls the train to a location where the steam loco can take over again. They are also used for train heating, assistance on steep gradients(especially during leaf fall season)and are a great help if any problems arise with the steam loco.
Most Diesels used are interesting machines in their own right too, with most of then now over 50 years old, some even 60 years old now.

Great stuff. Clan Line definitely looks quicker than 75mph at 6:27!

as fascinating as Shinkansen at speed - but with all that moving parts, this steam lokomotives are a mechanical wonder - and still going strong after all this years

They can bar them from regular passenger trains but they can never silence them

I think we all know it's only a matter of time before steam trains return as the dominant locomotive. They're faster, better looking, and above all, more powerful! The only obstacle is fuel consumption, and maintenance costs. Both of which I'm pretty sure shouldn't be too hard to overcome in the future.

@@amtrak1214 Steam lokomotives need constand feedwater supply- they do not have condensers, at least until now - but for ships it may be an alternative it only needs a decent heat-source...

Holy shit... big thumbs up for that! Never visited England for such things, but your video shows, that I might need to think about that! Greetings from germany!
There was a wood plank bridge over a main line on a footpath behind factories near Old Oak sheds in London that I crossed in 1955-61 and if a train was coming I'd wait there to get covered in steam & smoke.

Every last bit of spectacular!! 🤩

Another absolute banger lads
Great video
Wow the speed of the train is amazing & greetings from Indonesia Railways 🇲🇨👍😁
great stuff man
Actually, I would realize that Australian Steam locomotives are just almost the same with almost same speed but just faster for a little bit.
Steam Engine speed is super and proved as Old Gold, but heavy atmosphere pollution dueto heavy Smoke. It is our brilliant USA scientists first innovation on the trial of to move even heavy vehicles like Locomotives too just with steam controld moving wheels under a pressure of the steam is really awesome.. Hats off to the scientists who innovated like Mr. Jameswhat and developed in different stages to arrive in this stage is successful of their dreams like this...RBS

super really !! on the other hand, does the diesel push or is it in tow ?

It only pushes when negotiating steep gradients, otherwise it takes on the role of a generator coach (electricity and/or heating is provided for coaches from diesel engine generator e.g. at night). It can also be handy for shunting duties once a rail tour is done and the coaches need to be stored.

Well the first clip shows no diesel on the back, so they're not always there and the main reasons have been listed in the description.

Steam at speed.... Unfortunately I feel that some of these clips of 'steam at speed' will be owing to plenty pushing assistance by the class 47 at the back of any of the trains.

You may feel that, purely because they were there. But none of the 47's were pushing in all of these clips.

@@04clemea fair enough.... But I must admit being present on one or two of the tours depicted..... Gaining aforementioned 'speed' was definitely assisted by the class 47. ☺. Bring back the non necessity of having traction in tow...... All for keeping pathing times.
