Chinese New Year Kueh - Nyonya Kueh Bakul (Nian Gao) with Coconut milk
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Full Recipe: wp.me/p8790g-2Q
This is a modified version of Nian Gao which include coconut milk and also cooking the batter over the stove. I wanted to see whether having cooked batter will minimise leakage through the banana leaves.

Hi Eddie, I am a Malay, and I've tried fried kuih bakul, but my Chinese friend who had it with me said it wasn't that nice. I've never try the one serve with shredded coconut. Does it taste like kuih Kasui just without the banana leaf aroma?

Can be kept for one year if you keep them we’ll pack in a good plastic bag.
my mum used to tell me, she had to steam this cake for one w h ole day. but yours for two hours.?
@ShiokmanEddie

+tan jasmine Ok this took 2 hrs because I pre cooked before steaming to shorten the steaming process. BTW, have you check out my Recipe Blog: www.shiokmanrecipes.com/ and Facebook Page: bit.ly/2hXsg7m
Tried making your Nian again second time. It’s chewy but not soft like the commercial ones. I steamed it for 5 hours -didn’t follow yours because it appears sticky. So I increased steaming time! Please explain why!

It's because mine is a modified version with coconut milk. If you're looking for commercial ones then you have to try other recipes.

Thank you for your reply-I like your modified version: add coconut milk!
Can the taste of that be compared to anything else? Most likely a dumb question, I just have never heard or seen this before, pardon my curiosity.

Not at all, I don't really know how to compare it with something that doesn't use the main ingredient gula melaka (palm sugar) which is commonly used in many of the snacks in South East Asia region like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia.......basically it's sweet like caramel, chewy and flavourful.
