Chinese Hand-cranked shoe patcher : How stitches formed 手搖補鞋機線步怎樣形成

The secret of how the needle and shuttle work to form the beautiful stitches is unknown to us as the shuttle bed is a solid piece of metal. By using a transparent shuttle bed, we can see the secret of how they work to form the stitches.

Thanks for watching and support. The machine is deserved to recommend to people who seek diy things themselves. Videos like this and yours videos in your channel greatly help people to get started and clear the uncertainties when first using the machine. It is a very useful repair tool and deserved to keep one in the home.

good video, very creative. What size thread are you using. I have used 135, but would like to use a heavier thread for exposed stitch. Any mods needed to use a heavier thread.

I usually use needle size 16 (American system) and the thread Tex 40. Using heavy thread is possible but the thread must be slim enough to pass through the needle eye and the needle front long groove (Search for what the long groove is in the internet). If not, when the needle pierces into the fabrics, the thread will be unable to pass through the groove and the thread will break. Even if the thread can pass through the needle groove to form a stitch, the stitches will become too tight because of the tension created in the jammed groove. No special modifications needed for stitching heavier leather but the needle size must be big enough to accommodate the thread. In your case, needle size 18 or greater should be used. Also the bobbin itself is too small to hold too much the heavier thread and may jam the 2 holes on the side and top of the bobbin wall. So make sure the thread must pass through these 2 holes.

This must be the timing problem. Refer to my video on the alignment of the bobbin case and he driver or similar videos found on the internet. This is a simple machine, all you need to do is to study its mechanism very carefully and patiently. Then you will find its rules. I also spent quite a lot of time to examine the whole machine. There were many problems as many beginners have encountered. You must learn from these mistakes.

If the basics (how the stitches formed) are clear to the beginners, all other problems could easily be overcome. They could be traced step by step. Like all other users, I also encountered such problems and through repeated practices, they were solved. This is a learning path which takes time. This video was three years ago, I have produced a newer one which is more comprehensive to show how the stitches are formed by a series of 3 step cycle. Search for it. Also join the facebook group "China Leather Shoe Patcher", there is a document section which contains many pages on how to better use the machine.

how many millimeters of leather she can sew

I have sewn up two pieces of leather for almost 7 mm (1/4") thick. It was perfectly done. The distance between the presser foot and the shuttle bed is about 1.5 cm (5/8"), in theory it can sew through the fabrics provided that the needle and thread are strong enough to go through.

What causes the needle to tighten the stitch as the needle is removed while the walking foot is down? My machine is leaving loose stitches by not pulling the thread tight at the end of the cycle. Please respond if you are a viewer who has solved the stitches with a loose loops on the bottom of the stitch. Thanks

Check the set up of the top of the needle bar any loosening of the moving arm. Check whether or not the thread goes through all the holes especially the one on the tip of the bird shaped plate. Check whether or not you follow the correct routing of the top thread. Something must be done wrong. You can also join the Facebook group "China leather shoe patcher" to ask for help. There is a file section for you to find all the important manuals even though you are not a member.
