PSA: There are many different types of Lao Gan Ma, but the packaging all looks the same, so it's a little confusing and you may pick the wrong type. You can try them all, but the one I highly recommend (and the one Jimmy's using in this video) is SPICY CHILI CRISP. GET THIS ONE, IT IS FUCKIN BOMB 100%!!!

I once bought a jar that had nuts in it!?? At first, it threw me off but the combination of spice and saltiness and crispiness...so good. Forgot where I got it, so I've never been able to find the same again.

I have an idea for xiao long bao... they should offer the option of delivering them frozen/refrigerated raw with the soup gelatinized in them, so you can plop them in the steamer not end up with soggy skin and no soup inside.

I love those fried buns! Brought back a lot of lovely memories of our family holiday in Shanghai.

Watching jimmy eat foods is my schedule everyday

Living in China, every time I had a dinner there was tooons of food on the table, it was super cheap but very good. Couldn't even believe the amount of food it was in front of me! Tried all those dishes apart from the noodles (prefer the Halal Chinese Muslim hand-pulled version, Sichuan version or Anhui version which are super super tasty). Miss Chinese food now I am in full Lockdown in Italy! And: yes, xiao long bao must be eaten as soon as possible, plus chili oils goes everywhere!!! Literally crying here!

Perfect start to my weekend!

老干妈 goes with everything! Being Shanghainese, I used to eat xiao long bao or sheng jian bao for breakfast almost every day.

You are making me drool with that xiaolongbao even if it wasn’t the best! I’m a white girl married to an ABC whose father is from Shanghai. I’ll never forget my first xiaolongbao in Taipei! Covid really sucks because I haven’t been able to visit with my in-laws and have my father-in-law‘s incredible Chinese cooking! Luckily I’ve learned a lot and we have lots of Asian grocery stores here in Atlanta! Thanks for the video💗

I am sane! I get weird looks when I am seen reheating Ubereats food. I am just particular and enjoy doing it to be honest plus the food is hot before consumption. I cook as a hobby and I've never made xiao long bao before. Yes, it tastes best when its fresh out of the steamer. I wonder if these restaurants could just give it to you frozen and have you steam it yourself. That would give you the experience you want at home. Cause the thing with xlb is theres these soup cubes which start melting at room temperature. If you leave the soup cubes liquified for long enough, it soaks into the wrap and you lose that soup experience (and get a soggy dumpling). In theory, it shouldn't be any different from cooking frozen dumplings or gyoza. I'll try it out and see if that works.

With the Shengjian baos, I had some Michellin star ones in Hong Kong a few years back. They're really good and I kid you not, next to the bao stall, there was a window with the sign "please don't eat next the window" because when you bite into a fresh one, juices will splatter out. If you ever eat a fresh one, poke a hole it and suck out some of the soup. #lifehack

Growing up, we 99% ate in Oakland Chinatown but I have never tried these dishes or XLB. Thanks for helping me get Chinese'd up! I miss the hole in the wall spots & feel skeptical if I walk into a well decorated Chinese restaurant. In my mind, the better the decor, the worse the food will be. Am I the only one?

Jimmy must have ordered from a Shanghai restaurant, with mainly JeJiang style dishes. So they are more dough, noodles and sweet brisket and etc. And the buns are for breakfasts than dinners. Great stuffs. 👐👍

I usually end up making extra rice for any leftovers but almost every Asian takeout place gives you a decent amount of rice free.

Every Chinese restaurant I’ve been to gives white rice with every meal, but if they didn’t, I agree I’d make it at home

cook them.. it is fun seeing you cook Chinese authentic food.. i am sure you can make better food from your kitchen..
