Problem isn't the range, it's the blue-wrap cells in it. Lowest quality batteries you can get. Probably not good for a hundred cycles let alone 500.

hmm yeah but the really good non Chinese ones are super expensive like $22,000 - $85,000 price range, have top range of 125 miles, a 0 to 60 of 3 seconds with a charging station time of 20 to 30 minutes, weigh anywhere from 460 to 665 lbs, and have a top speed of 125 to 150 mph (they actually put a built in limiter on the ones that 150 mph for battery consumption and safety reasons so technically they could go even faster if that limiter was off).

Thanks for taking us along for a ride with the development of your e-bike. As the battery industry gets more involved with graphene batteries or graphene hybrids, interested to know if you guys would consider upgrading the cells to those. Totally agree on minimizing regen braking as that wears out the battery quicker... some regen brakes are known to pump up absurd amperes back into the battery just over a short duration of a few seconds. One of the ways i setup my e-scooter was to only have minimal regen braking kick in only when the brakes are actuated by tying up a switch to the brake lever/light. This would definitely call for an adjustment to riding style, but it allows me to coast where possible and prolong battery life.

I'm glad to see that you are enjoying your motorcycle.

I'm really impressed with the performance and range increase you got with these mods, and someone else may have mentioned this, but those 18650 batteries will start giving even more range after 8 or 10 full charge/discharge cycles. That said, you should get close to 100 mi. at near full throttle, and possibly as much as 150 mi. in town. Nice work!! ;-)

As always I enjoyed this video. It seems as if you have built a very solid commuter bike. For a person that lives in a city, this would be perfect. It honestly looks like a lot of fun. With all the personal touches, I think this bike is turning out to be something pretty special. If ever one day you grow tired of it and would like to put it on the market, please let me be one of the first you contact. Very serious. I watched all of the videos from beginning to end so I know what it took to get this bike to the point if you have it now. I would not at all lowball you. No pressure and all patients. Just let me know in the late future because I know you're going to have fun with this thing for years LOL. As always be safe and have fun brother. I hope to see more of your projects very soon. Def low voltage cut. Check your cells discharge curve. For example 84-74v could be around 75% of power even though min is 60v. Great work

I really enjoyed this build. The two of yous really make me want to build my own , but the bike I'm looking at is an E Boom . they are the electric version of a Grom clone. Maybe as your next build you do an Electric Grom clone . They only go 50 mph / 50 miles . see if you could increase the top speed while trying to double it's range.

Been watching what you have done here and am more than impressed, I used to be a biker untill I had a nasty little collision that broke my knees, This brings me to what I am thinking, Electric wheelchair users are ripped off all the time by the major firms that build them, I think you could do a better job than they can probably at a far better price. Just an idea but would love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Keep up the great work

Binge watched this whole series over the last couple of days and even forwarded it to a few friends as it has been a great source of information on a future project I'm thinking of doing. Hopefully I remembered to click like on all your videos to show my support. Couple of questions, firstly is there any chance of getting a detailed video from you and lord Curt on how to set up and programme the controller as a stand alone video. Secondly I have a super soco tc max electric bike and have found that the range varies a lot if when I'm going at it's top speed I don't leave the throttle pinned wide open, so was wondering for this test did you just keep it pinned once you were flat out or did you back off once up to speed? Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of building a bigger capacity battery for it buy want to make sure it's going to be worth it before I do. Thanks and keep up the awesome videos

Im curious as to how much more range you would get at a more agressive regenerative brake setting. Like maby do a test at 50% then another at 100%. Awesome project! Ive been following it from the beginning. I love your videos man keep it up!

Regen on a light motorcycle doesn't really do that much. Likely a few mile improvement, like 5 maybe.

these are so dope wish i could afford to get one of these would save so much money getting to work, i know what im saving for! E-bikes are the future!!!

I got similar range with my Yamaha R6. In full throttle it also goes somewhere around 150km (90miles) before the tank is empty. :D

Your in excellent position now if solid state batteries are a real thing in near future, that would near double your range...but it would initially be expensive.

crazy how much you changed in the time you got this bike i been building my own little 350w electric scooters but i got my big ebike with a 55ah 16s 2p chevy volt battery running 6kw i get up to 85 mph but its getting dismantled because had the bike for almost 7 years now 3 motor swap 5 controllers and im afraid the aluminum frame may start to develop cracks i have for sure over 100k miles on it its been my daily driver for that many years i had 4 different batteries first was a 36v lifepo4 2nd 36v 14ah lithium 3 was a 72v 20ah and the 4th is the one im using 55ah 16s 2p wish i could get one of these i saw a motorycle like yours for 2300 in curacao but only says 30mph 30ah 72v battery lithium display is different and is set to mph so i may get it its a local store

You should try to duct some air over the controller from the front of bike or through tank then you can up your regen substantially. Great build

It uses the same voltage at low speed as it does at high speed because . However it uses less current at low speeds than at high speeds. Battery charge & discharge rate is governed by Coulomb's Law. I'd have to move the rear brake to the right pedal, especially if riding conventional bikes also. A brief moment of subconscious confusion could lead to a front brake only emergency stop crash when later riding a conventional bike.

Wattage/Amperage meter is also good to have, you tend to catch if there is something suspicious going on. How much torque you have there?

Where did you get it and how much

When your bike is fully charged its 82 volts so what's is the cut off voltage I know my scooter is 67 volts fully charged and its cut off is 50 volts and I'm 250lbs I get about 25-30 miles

At full throttle that range is up there with the best, although your home build battery is probably more than twice the size of a stock electric bike battery. My Evo is 40ah but at full throttle I can expect 25-30 miles range. In the City nearer to 50 miles.

What was the rated watts for the bike? Was it 1500 or 2000 or 3000?

This is really kool. My dad and I build ebikes and so far the fastest we built is my dad 5K and we with the set up we hit over 70mph it’s capable of higher speed but just feels so scary

I bought the Voltage meter/USB charger combo for 89cents shipped from China, it has shown to be a more reliable design + You can charge through USB.

Here's a suggestion as you like to tinker with these things, well you kinda got dropped in the deep end but never mind you learned a lot. Anyway to the suggestion, why not fit a top box on the back, and use it as a country ride battery pack, also a tank bag could be adapted for those country rides as well. So let's say you decide to go out for a ride in the country but feel the range just won't cut it, you just plug in your top box battery pack which would probably give you an extra 40/60 miles, and for those extra long journeys slap on a tank bag that has been adapted into a battery bag. If you have the batteries lying around anyway that is. Perhaps that original Chinese battery I don't recall if you made use of it in some way. But keep it as a plug in extra range battery that you can simply slot on the back of your bike as a top box.

How difficult is it to plate these bikes without branding, vin#, ownership permits?? I want to import a 20kw bike, and I'm curious.

Where can I get this software to upgrade and update my Phantom F1, and a better charger.

If you want to keep the battery healty for as long as possible, if you do not normally need the full range. Consider only charging it to 80 or 70%. It is not only at close to empty that these batteries take extra wear from the charging cycles. As a reference and practical test you could try AccuBattery app to monitor the health of the battery in your phone.

Cheers I enjoyed that, Being a shift worker could you do some city/suburb night riding, would like to see how the volts handle the lights being on, short rides 15 minute and a 30min ride would be great length and as I see it night riding/driving has less traffic so it should be fairly smooth on the battery, but with the lights on will it make much or any difference at all, Cheers again Ride Safe.

Regenerative braking has to do with the hub motor switching between using battery power to accelerate and using the vehicle's momentum at speed to create power while decelerating to recharge the battery like an alternator would

Brakes are direct replacement with 2008-2012 Ninja 250. So that's easy and cheap! Only like 4-5 miles before I was stranded after the first cutoff

What's the update on this bike? How are you using the bike so far? What your feedback after months of using this?

The reason electric cars can fast charge is because the high voltage they use. 400v is fairly standard, the industry is trending towards 800v though. I charge my ebike with a bigger charger than that so you're all good to move up to something way faster. Lots of chargers with adjustable current too so you can quick charge or slowly charge overnight. Just remember if charging overnight, lithium batteries do not suffer trickle charging well at all. It's a real sweet ride. it'll take you a while to iron out the bugs and get it how you like it, but once you do, they just go and go and go. It's astonishing how little maintenance they need. The only thing I'd change, is the controller. The config for it is barren. I forgot how bland kelly controllers are. Sure, they're reliable and work well, just lacking many tweaks and parameters that make fun happen. Enjoy your bike, but keep it in the back of your mind, if you want the dank nooners, upgrade that controller some day ;) Oh btw, awesome battery, I was sceptical of the chinese cells, but it's running pretty damn good!

What electric bike do you have and is it designed for faster charging? Keep in mind that faster charging gets the batteries hotter than when riding them so cooling is essential. Cars that charge with high voltage tend to have water cooled batteries to keep them cool. Inja has zero battery cooling so he has to keep the temperatures under control.

@@JasonWW2000 in some vehicles. Yes water cooling can help. I'm from the UK so not something that ever kicks in here lol. I'm not suggesting a 130kw charge, just more than 5A lol. I run a 24s7p made with lg hg2 cells and charging at 10A it barely increases pack temp by more than a couple degrees. It could take 28A max, but that would require active cooling.

Lithium batteries... thats how they roll, hold on strong to the very end... then drop like a rock. And a 1c charge rate (even 1/2C) will dramatically reduce your charge time if you can pull the amps and wont hurt your battery life. I have been charging lithium ions and li-poly batteries at 1c for over a decade. I dont push them harder than that though.

Just wondering. I just bought one without the battery pack but the seller don't want to tell me the maximum battery pack size I can fit in these motorcycle . Can someone please help with the maximum size that will fit in it ?? Much a appreciated .

83 miles/133km. That was really a good range. In my country, 50-60km range on an electric bike is the best you can have. We don't have lithium batteries because it is so hard to find a legitimate supplier here and it costs too much. We only have lead acid batteries and it weighs a ton. 40km on my bike is good and I'm happy with it but 133km? I would love that bike more than I do with my girlfriend.

Good cells can take fast charge. As an example, Samsung 20s 18650 can 2A charge. If you charge and discharge correctly, they'll last three or more years. If you use crappy cells, they'll obviously damage easier as they're not rated for more than 800mah charging. Crappy cells also lack power and usually overrated on the amps and capacity. You end up damaging them without proper knowledge. My mate and me built an electric motorcycle. We were using Samsung 40T 21700 cells. We can get the cells charged to full in a few hours. Range is around 138 miles on average. One year on, cells are at 84% health.

8:40 should make the battery voltage slightly higher then the motor spec so voltage sag doesn't effect range
