Chinese CNC Plasma START SH-HC30 THC Problems - FIXED!

Ғылым және технология

J-cut Chinese CNC table with START Microstep torch height controller. This is a fix for torch head lift when cutting for first time runs.
Brief description:
In order to have your Plasma source work correctly with a THC, it needs to be sending the correct voltage to the controller. Most of the U.S. Plasma sources will divide the voltage down from 50:1 for safety, and accuracy. Example - you are cutting 14 gauge steel plate with 100 volts out, the plasma source will send 2 volts down the CNC port to your THC controller. If the controller is also dividing from 50:1, it will be sending .04 volts to the THC - which is far to small to be able to use correctly and your torch will want to lift to find the ideal voltage - which it will never find since it is to small of a voltage. (Please note - this is NOT the same as your amps on your plasma cutter - please refer to your included manual to see ideal voltage for cutting. or use a multi-meter to actually check the out going voltage). The problem is with the Chinese THC controllers, they are also dividing the signal to 50:1 after receiving it from your plasma source - which equals a voltage to small to read and use correctly. This video explains how to convert your Chinese THC controller to receive a 1:1 signal instead of a 50:1 signal.

Hi. I saw your video, it's excellent. Thanks for the input. Right now I have problems with my THC, but I think it has to do with interconnection. since the voltage arc is not yet received by the THC. If it's not too much trouble, could you provide the connection scheme? I use a similar THC and a powermax hyphertherm 85, apart from a cnc controller of the same brand. thank you, I hope you read my message.

Is your Hypertherm outputting 50:1 arc voltage ratio? Or is it 1:1? An arc detect failure sounds like it is getting to weak of a signal (I bet your hypertherm is set to 50:1, and the controller is also 50:1, which would result in such a small signal it would nearly be undetectable.) Example: your cutting with 100 volts. if you divide that by 50, your Hypertherm would be outputting 2 volts to the START THC controller. It then is also dividing it by 50, which would be .04 volts - much to small to be detected. Check your card, and your plasma source. only one should be doing the 50:1 signal.

You can run 10,000 volts over a wire thinner than hair without burning out. As long as your current is very very low. 300v with very little to no current drain will not hurt it. Nor will it hurt a person. Unless that wire is thick and can deliver more current.

I see, so if you are using sheetcam & Mach3, then you will are currently not using a START THC - since that would be your controller instead of Mach3. I use Mach3 on my CNC routers - but it doesn't allow for corner slowing or anything specific to plasma cutting. If you are only cutting 14 gauge, you most likely would not benefit from a THC. I turn my THC off when cutting that thin of material since my speed is so high I would not benefit from the THC. Hope this helps!

Hi Larry, fellow sign shop and guitar builder here. I have added the same thc. From what I gather the unit is just turned on and off by the controller and it controls the height by itself. Is that correct? So there is a subroutine that allows this to start, bump the plate then the torch fires up?

  • @graffix

    @graffix

    6 жыл бұрын

Kenny Grisham sounds like we have a lot in common my friend! As for the question, I hope I can answer correctly. The thc reads the voltage of your plasma source, and adjusts the height of the head to get the perfect voltage required to cut perfect. It is a one way communication from your plasma source - the THC deciphers the voltage and moves it up or down accordingly. You have to input the voltage parameters in the THC itself in order for it to float correctly above your steel. The process of it moving down and tapping the steel is only to set the ‘zero’ point of the steel. I hope this helps. You can give me a call if you need more assistance. A private message is all I need with your phone number. Happy jamming/sign making mister!

Kenny Grisham no, there isn’t anything between the two. There isn’t a ‘subroutine’ so to speak. The system functions the same whether or not you even use your head controller. Sounds like you need some more tweaking with the parameters, or perhaps it’s not wired right. I will email you.

  • @graffix

Nicholas Newton the manual up and down on the actual z-axis is controlled via two methods. The first is your mechanical mode on the machine itself, the second is on the THC. The THC is controlled manually by your START software. Unsure on what pins. If you are converting to MACH3 for a controller you will need to replace the breakout board altogether I do believe. I had to on my router. I can say that it isn’t necessary, starts system is perfectly proficient for most applications. I am glad you found the video handy, like I said - there wasn’t anything out there for support. Good luck!

It has been of great help for me and the company I work for. We have exactly the same CNC and THC, and the same plasma cutting machine Hypertherm. Without this video we wouldn`t be able to make them work altogether. I have a question for you (if you don`t mind): the CNC has 4 ports on the back: the first one (from left to right) is for the power supply, the second one is for the THC, the third one has two pins and the fourth has three pins... in which one should we connect the Hypertherm plasma? On the third or on the fourth port? We are having troubles figuring it out because the interface cable from the plasma has 7 cables, and none of the ports on the CNC has seven pins (they have 2 or 3) Any information about how to connect the plasma to the CNC would be of great help. I am not 100% sure what your question is - but you will need to purchase the arc signal control cable from Hypertherm in order to connect your CNC controller to your Hypertherm plasma cutter. You can open the panel of the welder and hard wire them in if you prefer. Two signals are the arc signal cable (+/-). You will have to mount these on the ground of your torch, and the other on the positive. I hope this is what you are asking. THanks for watching!

  • @graffix

Shane, the actual THC has a controller in the CNC control box. The wiring that goes from there to your THC is typically a 15 pin, or some light gauge data transfer wire. So I am guessing you are needing the wiring from the plasma source to the CNC THC controller in your panel. It's simple - if you have a voltage divider card built into your plasma cutter, you will come off of it with the positive wire. The negative comes from your ground clamp wire. So locate that on the inside of you plasma source and tap off of it. If you do not have a voltage divider in your plasma source, you will come off of your actual torch cable that goes to your plasma torch. You can locate it easy in your plasma source and tap off of it with some automotive wire (12, 14 gauge). That would send a 1:1 signal to your THC controller. That is the easiest way to do it, but be careful, that wire will be carrying some Volts since it's not divided (up to 300 volts - enough to make you piss yourself.).

+Shane Forrester what I am trying to do without much success is to marry this THC with a torchmate table and hypertherm cutter.without any real electrical experience. I have been pondering it for some time now and am wondering if I can bypass the Chinese divider altogether or do I need the 220volt power connected to get the motor to work?? or can I use a 24v transformer to power it. it is very possible that I have bitten off more than I can chew

Hello Larry. many thanks for video. It very helpful. just have one question: If I input divided signal from power max to 1:1 port, that means that signal goes straight without dividing. Than why is soldering required ?

Hello Levan, thanks for the comment. If you just moved the wire on the outside of the card, the circuit is not complete. You have to solder the jumper wire on the internal of the card ion order for the card to know you are sending a 1:1 signal. I hope this makes sense.

Good morning, after seeing your video we need some information if you can help us. We have a HCP CNC RAPIDO 15-30 plasma. Our problem is that the torch starts but after two seconds it returns to the starting position, as if there were an alarm. What can it depend on? Can you help us put our Plasma into operation? Could you leave me your e-mail address so I send you some photos of electrical board? Thank you Thank you very much for the help you will give us. SER S.A.S.

SER SAS SAS the starting position of your x/y/z axis? Or just the start position of your torch control Z axis? Does the machine try to run the program on the x and z? If it’s the torch height control starting to lift, this video is the cure. If it is all axis, then your most likely your machine calibration is incorrect in the software.

Larry Davis Axis X and Y are normal, the machine moves. the problem is on the Z axis which, after starting the program, shoots the bow in a low position (normal) and after a second it rises .. The ARC-CHECK-FAIL error appears.
