And even if they had some barebone impression of what freedom could look like, they won't necessarily revolt. Just look at Russia. ... When Russia started to invade the Ukraine and as soon as it turned out that Russia could not overrun the Ukrainian defence, I thought .... Just let a couple of thousand dead soldiers return home in cascets, then the Russian People will surely rid themselves of Putin .... Well, I was quite wrong.

My wife said there is a saying that the flower that stands taller then the rest is the one that gets cut. And in my own experiences in China, the CCP watched what happened in the former Soviet Block and seemed to realize that they can keep the people fat dumb and happy through the market reforms that started in the 90's. I witnessed an evolution of people there becoming even more concerned about looking out for themselves.

I was in Shanghai for a month (scheduled to be there for two months) to learn Mandarin (I am fluent in Japanese). I asked my friend what she thought about Mao - and her face turned white and whispered YOU MUST NEVER SAY THAT HERE! and proceeded to say loudly so that everyone could hear her: Oh, he was a great man. He is the father of our country! In my Chinese language class - my second week - I told my teacher (who was really, really good) that someone had opened my backpack on the train and stolen my camera while everyone was watching. She looked sad, and went over to the window and closed the blind, and put her finger up to her lips to mean DON'T TALK - and wrote CCP on the blackboard and pointed at it, then erased it very quickly. Then she said: That's the reason why it was stolen. People steal to stay alive. It's the CCP that is to blame, not the Chinese people or their character. I saw Barrack Obama in Shanghai soon after taking office, talking to students and he was going on and on about American freedom and democracy. The students had completely blank looks on their faces. I realized they don't want freedom or democracy because freedom and democracy require personal responsibility, and they don't want that. Who wants to be responsible for their lives. They can throw garbage on the ground and not think twice about it - let the government take care of that. Housing? Let the government take care of that. They like not having to take responsibility for themselves. Communism helped unify the country during WWII - that had been colonized up to then by the French, the British and Americans, and invaded and raped by the Japanese, so it brought the country together as one country, so I'm sure they are happy about that - and with the CCP introducing capitalist methodology, things have improved, so people think things are fine just as they are. That's my interpretation. I left Shanghai after one month because it was dirty, noisy, people were thieves, and rude, and it was incredibly bad. I dropped my class and came back to clean, polite, and society is good. I was so glad to come back here. It's like night and day. I'm enjoying your videos Serpentza.

Although, it might have to do with a certain square. The reason they lost in ww2 (and the entire century prior) was because of stagnation and overconfidence. And US saw decline of 10% GDP back then. China is looking at instantenous fall of 15% of GDP if real estate prices correct to US levels which is still tremendously overpriced and there could easily be spilled to other industries and sectors of economy making fall even worse. @@drx1xym154 The war in Ukraine surprised everyone and I have no doubt even them. Taiwan is not Ukraine, and China is not Russia, but I've no doubt the war in Ukraine has shown the CCP that things can go badly for even those with perceived superior militaries- such as theirs. As such, I think they're just going to stick to just threatening Taiwan until the last of their days rather than actually going forward with it and potentially making things worse, as bad as things are. If the CCP ever decides to go after Taiwan, it will be out of desperation and madness. I don't know how much longer they can play the long game, though. With their demographic problem and their water problem, time is running out.

No, you can apply logic to China. Logic isn't one dimensional. With logic you can see what China is, how it's come to this point and some possible directions for how things will develop. The thing is, you can't apply dumb logic to China solely from an uninformed westerners perspective. Like serpentza says: China works and thinks different. I don't think they're doing it for views, I think they really believe what they're saying. The believe it because if it happened here in the west, the governments WOULD collapse. They just don't understand how & why China is different from a western country. I personally both agree, and disagree with Winston. I believe China's *economy* can and will collapse. It's inevitable. How do I know this? Because there isn't an economy in all of human history that hasn't collapsed or had its bubble "popped". It's just a matter of when and how. Economies can't grow infinitely/forever, there are ups and downs, bubbles and collapses. China's in the biggest economic bubble the world has ever seen - this isn't my opinion but the opinion of every economist on the planet. It will eventually pop, it has to pop if they want to continue to grow. Winston says the PRC has total control and he's right - but China's economy doesn't exist in a bubble. It interacts with, and participates in the larger global economy. This is how China's economy collapses - other countries losing faith in the Yuan and foreigners losing faith in investing in China. The latter is already happening, companies are choosing to avoid having their stuff made there due to rampant IP theft. China also wants to get a robust middle class; to do that, they have to start paying decent wages. Once they do that, China will no longer be a cheap place to manufacture things and that alone will collapse their economy, completely ignoring all the real estate bubbles.

That's an underhanded, but completely harmless, way of attracting gullible viewers, to increase their income on KZread's algorhythm. What's disturbing about that? Much worse happens in American society, every day, and yet we Americans just roll with it. Is any of this crap going to start a war? No. Only one thing is going to trigger a war with China: the Chinese invasion of the Island of Taiwan. THAT would be truly disturbing. What's happening on KZread: not so much. The reason many have been saying China will collapse is due to the fact China is about to go over an economic cliff. About one third of China economy is property based and that market is about to fall out and everybody can see it happening in slow motion.

He can be a little one sided propaganda machine but he has knowledge about China. Mainly because there's nothing for a foreigner to find there. The people are born into the country and when someone says the word China it means an individual person in china. They worship butchers because they're allowed to worship them and the economy in China is fake so there's no wonder why the economy is unable to collapse when it's people who will suffer no matter how bad it gets. When it gets worse CCP gets more power since the military don't fight for their families. Instead CCP makes up stories which the people believe. They believe that USA is going to invade China and that CCP is saving them so there's no way a country who declared war on the rest of the world to abandon their savior. The likelyhood for the people in China to rise against CCP would be as if people in Great Britain decided to attack their own countrymen during ww2 and join the Germans.

I remember an old China hand for the US State Department commenting that China-watching is basically looking at the surface of the ocean. There are giant sea monsters battling underneath, but the only information you can get about them are the bubbles rising to the surface. I think the reason Mao was not held accountable for the Great Leap Forward or the Cultural Revolution was that he had gained too much face for winning the Civil War, kicking out the foreigners, giving land to the peasants, etc. It's a peculiarity of Chinese culture that when a leader has enough face, they can get away with far more egregious acts than the West would accept, and people will apologize and make excuses for them. If we look at historical precedent, I think the CPP is not at the end of its tether, but about halfway through. Throughout Chinese history, when a regime takes over, it starts out poor. The dynasty's leadership - often not Han themselves - has not learned to work with the Mandarins, the economy is wrecked from previous upheaval, and ordinary people sort of quietly wait and see whether the dynasty has staying power before they become productive. One move that a dynasty will make will be to open up to foreign trade. International demand for Chinese products has remained constant for the past two milennia - tea, silk, handicrafts, and all the cheap things they produce today. Although other civilizations learned to produce these things on their own, they could not match the Chinese in either price or quality. So the dynasty opens the country, foreign money flows in, foreign culture follows, and China becomes rich. However, alongside this comes the corrupting effect of extreme wealth, which eventually wears down the ability of the government to preserve order. It is at this inflection point that the government either collapses or, through a series of symbolic acts, closes itself off from the world. Usually these involve moving the capital, executing a few high-profile officials, propping up the founders of the dynasty, expelling/murdering foreigners, and often getting rid of foreign cultural influences. Think of how the Tang dynasty conducted pogroms against their urban Muslim populations after the An Lushan rebellion, or how Zheng He's treasure fleet was allowed to rot, and records of his voyages were forgotten about. Of course, we can see all this happening with the CCP. People tolerated the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution because the CCP was still in the wait-and-see period. To a Westerner, giving a Communist like Mao credit for China's economic boom makes no sense, but in the Chinese perspective wealth flowed into the country *because* the CCP survived the wait-and-see period. Whether or not it adhered to its Marxist ideology is irrelevant. It is important to emphasize that this is not just me, the gwailou armchair Sinologist, with my own opinions. Xi Jinping himself is obsessed with the idea of dynastic collapse, as was Mao. The CCP's historical symbolism is obvious, deliberate, and easily recognizeable by any Chinese who is aware of their history, as most educated Chinese are. So, will the CCP collapse in the next five years? Chinese culture represses resentment until it suddenly explodes everywhere. However, the CCP is loudly signaling that it is at their inflection point and is dealing with it - Mao's cult of personality has been revived, foreigners are being expelled, English-language education is restricted, and a few top officials and billionaires are harassed, imprisoned, or disappeared. I think there is a good chance that people will accept this and get on with their lives. The thing about freedom is that, unlike what we Americans are taught, most people don't care about it. Freedom matters to the top 5% of hyper-productive and thoughtful people, people who would today just leave China. Ordinary people are happy to just guo rizi. Until they aren't.

Because the same people controlling Russia control China. They also pretty much control the rest of the world, including America. This simple fact goes "whoosh!" over the sheep's head. Why was Alexander Solzhenitsyn destroyed? What did he reveal? Who was really behind the Bolsheviks? Why do you think the CIA is all over the world infiltrating governments? Who created the CIA? When Philippine President Duterte spoke live on TV with a lopsided face (from an obvious stroke), he said, "If anything happens to me, the CIA did it", my heart ached. I wondered how many other people understood exactly what he was trying to convey. If you study history and politics as doled out by our programming institutions, you don't really know the truth. The 1980s educational reform had sinister implications. It resulted into 80% of American high school graduates being functional illiterates, and what there is left to learn are all orchestrated to mesh well and assist the agenda of the globalists. I cannot post any links here because free speech is now a felony (legislation sponsored by the same people).

I don't think I've ever felt so depressed over a video in my life. To say that the CCP can survive such an economic downfall, uprisings back in 1989, famine, be so mismanaged and corrupt, and it be 100% truthful it's like the CCP has won in some way and short of extinction or a very bloody war is robust enough to endure pretty much everything else. The Chinese people outnumber the members of the government 100's if not 1000's to one. I just feel so helpless.

Your math is off. The Chinese outnumber the ruling class probably 1 million to 1. What does that have to do with anything? It is the Chinese police and army...security forces too that you would be dealing with. THAT number is in the millions. The only hope: that the Peking upper echelon leadership gets nuked in a war with the USA over Taiwan.
