China Airspace Flight levels

Hello everyone and how do you do?
My last clip of my daily story brought up the question from some of you as to why we were flying at an odd flight level in Chinese airspace. This is a quick explanation of the reason. I might add that in ICAO, the flight levels are designated in Metres and was agreed by all countries. For ease of operation(as the majority of countries were already using altimeters calibrated in feet), it was easier to continue using feet. China and Russia for that matter at the time immediately changed to the agreed medium of Metres. (Russia has mostly converted), but China levels are in metres and we have to make a conversion to set the correct level. The video I’m sure is clear enough. Hope it makes sense- ‘Chi Di Gin! - Later!✈️✈️✈️✈️

I always enjoy these clips you publish and have the way you describe things, even after spending 30 years in aviation myself - unfortunately only a few years as a pilot I saw the interview with Aerotime and was pleasantly surprised to hear of your time in Zambia. My father was, as far as I know, the first meteorology instructor at Z.A.S.T.I when it started in 1971, and i went to Lusak Boys School in ‘71 and ‘72, and to Kabulonga Boys School from ‘73 to ‘75.

Actually in aviation I would disagree. Feet have been established almost all around the world for flight levels and also separation rules go by hundreds in feet not by 30m or such.

Is the 747-400 allowed to fly eastbound at FL449 / 13700m ? I ask because westbound it is FL430 / 13100m and the seperation then would be less than 2000ft outside RVSM. I know it can fly high up to FL450.

Obet, that's interesting to know. I wonder if the difference between Meters and Feet is widely known throughout the aviation world, in particular when in China airspace. I say that because I thought no matter where you are in the world, the rules of aviation are worldwide-standard. Trust someone else to be different.

Can you make a video and explain when you use 500ft increament for flightlevels , please? For example cuising on FL405.
