Chile, a week on the road (beach to mountains) - EP 87

You also dream to discover the unique continent of Antarctica? The Polar Latitudes family (@PolarLatitudesLive) with which we will be embarking at the end of this month is offering 1000 USD off all the cruise this year and next year with the code: NEXT MERIDIAN.
You can find information about their cruise and contact them using this link: polar-latitudes.com/travel-wi... .
If you want to travel with us, we will be on the “Celebrating Antarctica” journey from *Nov 29, 2023 to Dec 11, 2023.* You can ask us in comment if you have any question about the Polar Latitudes Antarctica trips!
This week we crossed into Chile for the second time. We notice immediately a massive change in climate and landscape compared to argentina. We visit the capital city Santiago and the famous port of Valparaiso before fleeing to the south in search for better weather. It is the first time in a while that we see so much rain.
We meet great people, prepare our trip to Antartica and adapt our plans to follow the weather, it is a slow week but a good week. Eventually we make it a bit by accident 4 wheels and 4 feet in the snow… and next week is quite the adventure.
Subscribe to the channel to be sure you do not miss what is coming up next,
Until next week, take care!

You know what is so amazing is all the European ancestry mixed into the people of the Americas and also Central and South America. I believe 60% of the people of Chile ancestry goes back to Spain. Europeans started coming to all of the Americas in the late 1400s before that there were no European ancestry mixed in to the Native Americans anywhere. The Europeans really change everything especially Spain, France, England Etc. There are very few places left that have full-blooded natives, there are some still in the Amazon and in the Deep mountains of Cuba and probably a few other places.

Crossed at that border location about 15 years ago, by bus. I had a small bag of shelled almonds that I carried through two weeks and two countries, and they wanted to confiscate that. So I said, "I'll eat them now" and proceeded to do that, holding up the entire bus for some minutes. Back on the bus, I had the front panoramic seat (double-decker bus) and as soon as we were in Chile, a condor swooped right by the window, not 10 feet in front of me! Bienvenidos a Chile!

Hi! Chilean here🖐Chile's phytosanitary regulations on imports of timber and timber products are aimed at preventing the introduction of pests not present in the country and those under official control (mainly fungi and insects). This is because agricultural and timber production (with the potential to be affected by pests) is an important pillar of the country's economy. Hope this clears it up! Cheers🙌

Awesome, guys! Didn't even think about snow in Chile -- but I guess it makes sense due to the higher elevation and the Andes mountains. That's a driving experience I bet you guys didn't have to think about since Canada and Alaska! I believe the tree near the end of the video is called a 'Monkey Puzzle' or 'Chilean Pine' in English. I believe the tree is native to that part of Chile but has been introduced in other parts of the world, where it has been grown to limited success as a specimen tree. I have seen photos of them growing in some parts of the UK, on the west coast of British Columbia in Canada, and the Pacific Northwest of the USA. Thanks for another great video.
