Funny thing actually. When this song released, everybody outside USA wasn't shocked. Because we know how crazy americans are with those guns, and how many mass shootings are there. I am more shocked that so many americans shocked by this song.

I think this should be required watching. He’s a genius. Everything has meaning. From every visual to every musical progression.

Why a you the only one that I have read that got that absolutely right. I have watched reactions and they are focused on the dancing and the OMG gun scenes. But They didn't look at the back ground, or what Gambino represented. I love seeing Awareness and not Half Woke individuals

He's portraying two different types of America which is why he's shirtless w gold chains (modern day) and wearing confederate pants and shoes (back in the day)

It’s soooo important to view art like this because it gives us such insight into how others view and experience the world and how they are treated

When he made the Uncle ruckus face and then the Jim Crow poster pose in the very beginning I knew would have to watch it repeatedly to catch the references

Just found your channel and watched this man, great take on it. Re-watching, you really notice small things, like how nicely they treat the gun, coming to wrap it in gently cloth and take it away, while they drag the bodies away like nothing. Gambino is great at saying a lot without saying a lot. And the saddest part is that each and every time a new mass shooting happens in the US I can't help think of this video and just say, "Yep. This is America."

This is a video with a lot of details. Look at how when the guitarist is assassinated, the gun is put on a velvet napkin whilst the man is just dragged away. Same as the AK with the Dylan Roof church reference. All the cars in the background are “low rent” or cheap to reference poverty in black communities

WOW.. I am shooketh at this video.. I to think there's lots of meaningful messages in this video.. I immediately thought of all the shootings we hear about in America especially in schools and churches.. The grey pants he's wearing remind me of the uniform in the civil War.. also his bare chest is how slaves were typically he's also wearing a chain which might be referring to the chains that were often placed around slaves necks... I thought that all the stuff going on in the background was possibly something to do with the way that the media works and that we clearly see what's put right in front of us.. Like on news bulletins.. which masks other stuff going on around us but we don't see it because our attention is being steered in another direction... I think its also addressing the fact that people will often stop and film wrongdoings on their phone but won't stop and help.. I think there's many more messages but this is how I interpreted it on first look.. Also I am from England so I have probably got it totally wrong.. It's a very powerful video though whatever his music is about.. Love and light from across the pond xxx 🙏👌😱🥰🇬🇧

IMO it’s about the state of violence where we’re so desensitized that we’re focused on the dancing while there’s chaos and violence happening all around them. His dancers are dressed like school kids. The church choir gets gunned down. A statement to church & school shootings. The kids scatter when he poses like he has a gun and lights up a joint. All of the cars have the driver side doors open. Possibly about being pulled over and taken out of your car by police/police brutality. In the end they’re all running away scared. Again,my interpretation so I could be totally wrong but showing how much violence happens and we go about our business,distracted and desensitized.

People of Color in the foreground dancing/entertaining (many traditional african heritages …he also wears confederate pants in video). 1950’s style exploited entertainment. 1920’s dance and exploitation…..the early 20th century) ….. (as American made cars are being destroyed….and people that helped build them are being chased ,beaten and incarcerated in the background the entire video). Foreground shows “black on black crimes” “black on Black” attacks against religion (the choir)…a man who would have been shot for reaching for a cigarette….and Everything else was smiles/entertainment/etc until you realize the fear of a century worth of exploitation and fear mongering. It’s a message of blame, entertainment, scapegoating and fear. Americans destroying and blaming Americans that built this country. The destruction was their hatred for fellow Americans
