I’ve been watching reaction videos for a couple hours on this. You two have the most insightful views, with spot on references - The Jim Crow and Richard Pryor poses. As a 43-year old white man, I’m so thankful Gambino put this out. We all need to wake up!! This is America. We need to realize we’re all one people. Much love, young men!

They got that person riding a white horse idea from the bible in revelations! I’m not a Christian or part of any religion but I believe the bible although when reading it you need to be careful because it’s been messed with to try & deceive people! Their overall message is that bible prophecies in revelation is being fulfilled... were in the end days... the world is about to end! Once the world ends the most high (our creator that created the heavens and earth) will create a new heaven & earth and the remnant (most from the chosen seed aka black people) that survives will live there! America’s time is up! That’s the overall message of this music video! I suggest you watch watchman reports, truth unveiled 777 archives, black education tv & the judean ms shayla! They’ll give you lot a better understanding of what’s going on! Btw “come out of Babylon” means to come out of Christianity and all other religions (including atheism) because we have a creator who’s name begins with Yah and a son who fulfilled all the laws who’s name also begins with Yah! “Come out from Babylon”, “come out from among them and be ye separate” means “do not be partakers of her sins” who’s sins... America, Rome and the Roman Catholic Church! All religions were created by Rome! Wake up

It struck me also like a back man, scared for his life, running from what's happening, just like his people had to run during slavery! He is trying to wake up his people to the way media and crap is distracting us all from coming together to rise up and love one another. Until we all stop abandoning our suffering fellow humans, we're as good as slaves to the system. You're just a barcode brother, focus!

The general vibe of the song is upbeat and repeats, putting us in a trance and false sense of security until the gunshots form along, breaking us from the trance and reminding us of whats happening and what the song is about. Note that when the gunshots happen the guns are always taken away with care in a red cloth, meanwhile the in the case of the guitarist, his body is dragged off without a care. The guitarist that's shot and came back hooded may stand for how easily we tend to forget tragedies even if they're incredibly important, the guitarist caries the tune throughout the whole song but we completely forgot about him until he's brought back. Note the guitarist was very peaceful and not doing anything wrong and yet was still shot. He was hooded which might represent how cops tend to arrest POC simply because they "look like the suspect" even though they look nothing alike. You only see his skin, not his features. The two gold chains stand for something like obsession with money and status I believe Also, notice how the people dancing and in one part, some students are on-top of a car shooting money freely and dancing along, never get harmed? People who happily ignore and choose to fit in with society are always left alone or praised, unlike those who break from the system, like Gambino at the end, are seen as enemies and need to be dealt with. Also the school's tend to teach these things into young children because that is our most vulnerable time of taking in information, which may be why the kids dancing are in uniforms. Also our attention is supposed to be on the dancers the whole time because they represent the media. All that happens in the background is the truth. What the media often does is "shake the frame" which blurs and takes attention away from the truth and forces us to believe only what we're given. So much happens in the background but because they're "shaking the frame" we often don't notice half of whats actually happening. During the seconds of silence to honour a certain tragedy, Gambino pulls out a blunt and smokes it to deal with the stress and then discards it like nothing even happened, going back into his happy trance.

I think the variety of cars with doors open and blinkers on represent all the people who ended up dead at the hands of police by just driving while Black. Research might show they're the same older-model cars such as Philando Castile's. I'm not good at recognizing cars but some of them look sadly familiar.

Either way there is no way to explain why so many people voted for a greedy, old, women molesting guy who is supposed to live in Florida and retire. This president is an relic. He doesnt have a clue about progress or politics. He doesn't even know how to run a company that lasts. He can build one up, take what he needs and then ruin it. The more reaction videos I watch, the more apparent it is that this is a video that has to be watched several times, thought about, and discussed to even come close to understanding most of it. This is about the 7th reaction video I watched, and so far the guy on the left in the black shirt best mirrors my own reactions. The 'Whoa, WTF' when the first man is shot, and his 'It means something..' although that was my reaction to the entire video and not the dancing. I found out about this video a few days ago when a news article said that "This is America" was the unofficial anthem to the George Floyd/police violence and systemic racism protests. Thanks for posting this - the more I see people react, the more I begin to understand.

You asked what that means when he holds his arms up bent down. I'm Not sure but it reminds me of "Hangman" and also of a "Scarecrow" (maybe a reference to Jim Crow)... or maybe a Marionette puppet on strings or could be a combination of All. You also were trying to figure out what was the meaning when he was on the car. If you listen, right before he climbs up on top of the car and "Gets Down" dancing, the song goes "Black man Get Down!" more likely a reference to when police shout out "Get Down!". . .with their guns drawn, ready to shoot! The cars at the end are references of Black people that were pulled over by cops then beaten and/or shot. Rodney King's 87 Hyundai is there and the Doctor's (don't remember his name) Cadillac is there, too. Lights on the cars still on warning.

I'm a white boy and this song really got me. Racism is still so alive and strong it's crazy. This presidency has proven that. Prior to now, they would just hide in the shadows thinking that their point of view was shrinking. Division and bigotry is now stronger that ever and it sickens me. Why can't we all put ourselves in others shoes and understand history before we make judgements. I live in a very diverse area and just about everyone I meet regardless of color on a day to day basis is nothing but positive. Can't let the narrative the media tries to spin on us prevail. Most of us are fighting for the same thing...it's the politicians that constantly create division in order to gain power and wealth for those lobbying for their election....nothing but bullshit.

The whole video is shot in a giant white warehouse that no one can seem to escape, with a crew dancing for your amusement, distracting you from what's going on in the background. Like Death riding by on a white horse.

The only reaction video I have seen regarding this song where black americans understood all the messages and issues he addressed...I feel so ashamed for others in various reaction videos that had no clue of what their ancestors and presently today what people encontered...these guys were spot on

1st its not trayvon dad, the guitarist name is calvin the II, in that beginning scene i feel like hes playing the role of these "new artist" that are like uncle ruckus and jim crowe were they will do/say anything for money, and him shooting the musician is symbolism for what these "new rap artist" are doing to hip hop. also the scene with the choir looks more like graduation gowns than church robes and probably has to do with all the mass school shootings.

Pretty sure the church scene is in reference to Emmanuel AME in Charleston... Dylan Roof shot & killed 9 people. He walked in & joined their evening prayer service & then killed them. It devestated our city.....

The cars at the end are all economy sedans from the 80s during the height of the war on drugs. They all have their hazard lights on and the driver's doors are open... police traffic stops gone bad. I've heard some of the cars are the same as the one Rodney King was driving when he got beaten by LAPD. The suicide in the background before the horse threw me the first time I caught it.

The dancing in the beginning was to represent Jim Crow depictions of black people long ago, you understand the deepness of it! POWERFUL! The silly dancing throughout represents how no one truly sees what is going on in this country, they are too busy listening to social media.

I think the meaning is really to make a point on random violence and that we just move in the next hour, hence, the dancing after the murders. People do not care anymore
