Chicken Pie Shop, a San Diego institution, 1992
March 11, 1992
Everyone knows our Larry Himmel loves to visit new and old places. Tonight Larry visits The Chicken Pie Shop-a San Diego landmark since 1938.
The University Heights location was the third in 54 years. 78-year-old George Whidehead was the original owner and was still putting in 12-hour days. And talk about loyal customers--Marshall and Andrew sure loved the pies! Larry said the Chicken Pie Shop would be around to turn another generation of San Diegans into old time customers-how right he was. Thirty one years later, it’s still a San Diego favorite.

Our throwbacks will keep you up all night.
The coolest thing about the '90s was that people from the '20s '30s '40s & '50s were around. They understood about Real Life as they unwound..!

My grandmother was born in 1918, and she’s still around! But I know what you mean. And 9/11 happened 22 years ago!
That place was the best bang for your buck in those days.....................deeply missed

It’s not the same businesses moved to El Cajon blvd?
❤❤❤ it's sad to know a lot of those elderly customers aren't alive anymore 😔
My first time was in 1974. When it was on Fifth and Robinson.
Gonna visit

I’ve tried that place a few times, WAY too much salt. I couldn’t taste anything except sodium. Dangerous food
Over rated as fuck. It's NOT the same place it was 20 years ago. It actually sucks now. But it's nice to see them featuring a business that's NOT black onwed for a change. Token effort at best. But at least some one seems to be noticing
