Chic noodle Soup in a Jar -- Freeze Drying Pantry Series #2

Chicken noodle soup or chicken and rice soup in a jar! We are doing our first freeze drying pantry series recipe. Today, we use all freeze dried ingredients and put them into a Mason jar or Mylar food storage bag to make an easy to rehydrate meal on the go. You can also substitute the egg noodles for rice and have chicken rice soup. We are going to a fun place to rehydrate these meals in a jar recipes, so enjoy!

You read my mind. This is exactly what I am trying to do. Soup (meals) in a jar that I can eat any time. I'm trying to set up 3 months of ready to eat meals and go from there. I like that I can take it when we travel. I like the prepper aspect. I like the easy to have anytime, instead of having to go out and get something. I like being able to use my garden foods and process them in season. Great nutrition. No chemicals etc. My doctors love the difference it is making in my health.

@@live.life.simple. when should you pre-freeze before freezedrying? Is it when it is alot of sugar in the soup? Aslo, doesnt freezing the food remove nutrients. If you buy frozen food in the store its supposed to have less nutrients than fresh food. So the 99 percent remaining nutrients after freezedrying might not be correct compared to fresh ingredients?

Two of our favorite reconstituted freeze dried soups are clam chowder and broccoli potato cheese soup. Thanks for sharing!! Btw to reconstitute just cheese, add sodium citrate to make the perfect cheese sauce for vegetables or chips etc.

Costco rotisserie chicken is not only the best chicken in the store. It is also the cheapest. We separate the flesh from the bones and skin. We freeze dry the flesh immediately. We make bone broth with the skin, bones, onions, celery, carrots, etc in our Mealthy Pot. (Think Insta-Pot) we freeze dry just like he does in this video. Happy prepping!

I'm very new to this only got my machine a few weeks ago so I'm not sure about adding anything thats not freeze dried....thanks

Dude! I love your content! Hey, you ought to check out the “Jetboil” for situations like this. I carry the “Jetboil Flash”, along with freeze dried food, and water (and long titanium sporks, oatmeal packets, and powdered hot chocolate) in my vehicles. I am part of a group who goes off-road Jeeping. We have had a couple times that we were much later than we had planned because of rollovers and recoveries, and my buddy didn’t bring enough food. This kit saved the day! Aside from bringing a lunch, this kit is contained in a “Milwaukee” tool box for backup only. I know that this is a lot of info just to tell you to check out the “Jetboil”, but I thought that you could share the idea of freeze dried food with an roadside emergency kit with others; a full belly in an emergency (or unplanned) situation is essential.

Question? Just before sealing jar, you said you can add some thyme, bay leaf & bouillon. Don't they need to be Freeze dried as well? My brain says yes because they may have moisture in them and can potentially spoil the food. Thanks for answering!

  • @recoblade1465

As long as it’s a dried herb, it should be fine because it doesn’t really have much moisture. You’re not really gonna notice much of a difference between a freeze dried herb in a dried herb as far as the bouillon, as long as it’s a dry bouillon, it too should be fine it’s a very tiny amount of moisture spread out across the entire jar. It would be somewhere in the .0 something percent most likely.
