Chevy Volt Drive Mode button quick fix

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

You will need a flat thin screw driver and electrical tape cut into small squares.
If you are driving and have been pressing the Drive Mode button and it doesn't function then try this. Any comments just let me know. I hope it helps

OMG I spent more than a year without sport/hold/mountain mode and this 5 min fix worked perfect! THANKS!! One thing I would suggest though is using a thin edged knife rather than a screwdriver. Not only does the button come out easier but you don't end up putting dents in the metal separator above the drive-mode button.

Thank you. This has been driving me crazy for a few months now. I could not believe how simple the fix was. Obviously the computer board holding the button is not properly secured and is creeping further away from the post that engages it. GM owes you a thank you letter!!!!

Thank you! My "Drive Mode" button stopped working two days ago. I visited the dealer this morning. They said the circuit board was not in stock and was on backorder. They quoted $800+ for the repair. I left, pondering Volt life w/o the button. But I visited my preferred shop before going home. As I described the problem, auto ace Nathan found this video. Minutes later we were prying the button out. I took it home, cleaned the button edge and the '+' molding, then applied a tiny dollop of Solarez Thin-Hard UV resin to '+'. I flashed it with the Solarez UV light, and called it good. It works perfectly! No dings in the button or its surroundings. I called the dealer to cancel the order.

My 2014 drive mode button acted up; I thought it was associated with a 'check engine' light. Was driving me crazy. Saw another post talking about electrical contact cleaner (which I didn't have handy). Saw your fix (I did have elec tape & small screw driver). 5 minutes - DONE. Thanks a bunch; this was driving me crazy! Afraid of an expensive dealer visit!

I was having this very problem but instead of removing the finished button I thought it might be possible to just push on the lower right corner of the finished button where the white button is directly behind and see if that worked and it did for me. That little bit of direct pressure was enough to make it work with out taking the finished piece off and putting tape in there. But no one would know that with out Edgar's kind revelation that saved some of us a service call to a local Chevy dealer. Your the man Edgar !

Thanks for this video. It fixed my problem. Just got the shock of my life after my 5 year warranty expired. Big bucks for the routine mtc. I purchased the extended warranty, but I'm sure it doesn't include stuff like this. I bought my 2012 in Oct., 2011. They probably would have charged me big bucks for this fix. Sadly, I am giving up on the Volt. I still like the car a lot, but there is too much in the car to go wrong. I purchased a "down" on the original Tesla (I live only 8 miles from the Fremont plant) but changed my mind and went to the Volt. Glad I did, those original Tesla's had little range. My son sold his Volt and bought a 2016 Tesla dual motor. That's my next car. I'm done with gas forever. Once again, thanks.

When I move the button through the modes the line goes under each mode I choose but the dot stays at normal.
