My name is Eric and I own and run a full service niche market salvage operation in Saint Louis, MO. Part of our model is buying blown up and core engines and tearing them down to sell the parts. I rarely get a story with these engines, mileage and history are usually completely unknown.
This engine came in just as you see it, completely dressed. I knew from the beginning this engine had a major issue and was non rebuildable. I had no idea it would be this bad. These are pretty solid engines but people will always find a way to destroy anything. This is an Iron block 58x Gen4 LS architecture engine, LY6 RPO Code. Its a 6.0L, with rectangle port heads. This engine comes in 2007+ GMT900 full size trucks and suvs , Silverado and Sierra 2500HD, 3500HD. Express and savanna 2500 and 3500 as well.
If you'd like to buy parts from this engine or others I've torn down, shoot us an email at Importapartsales@gmail.com.
Hope you enjoyed this teardown and thanks for watching!
-Eric
OH, and the reason this engine has a religious problem is that its got a hole in it, its Holy. Now that I'm a dad I can get away with this type of humor.

Except there’s no bodily fluids only long oil change intervals.
I think it's got some oil in those metal flakes.
I honestly look forward to seeing the notification symbol for your tear downs. I have a great amount of respect for your talent and knowledge. I also really appreciate not having some cheap background music. Lastly, a lot of people doing videos about cars act like they invented the automobile. You are humble and not afraid to say “I don’t know “. You have the complete package. Thank you sir. Peace

This channel is simply "Automotive Gold". Thank You Eric and please, don't change a single thing. This channel is as PERFECT as it gets IMHO. Fred
It's Friday night the best thing to watch just came on. And my mrs is kinda eyeing me. What the world could be so interesting to him. Maybe she will come back in the room wearing a LS intake manifold?
This channel is going places. Something mesmerizing about taking apart blown up engines
I love watching the carnage! It’s like watching Richard on Precision Transmission tear down blown transmissions to see what failed.
Hats off for about the last ten minutes of the video. You didn’t have to tear it all the way down, you already know the rest of the engine is scrap at that point, but you followed thru. Thank you. 👍🏻
This is literally my favorite KZread channel, its just cool taking engines apart and seeing how different manufacturers build engines differently
Somehow watching these tear down videos is therapeutic for me 😎
I feel I need to visit this guy's shop to see all the twisted metal he's got on display, lol. At times, I think his video is more educational than the engine build videos. I don't think I've seen a engine that sucked water torn down before...
I always wondered how the displacement on demand worked! Just hit a puddle and deactivate cylinders 7 and 8. Keep the educational content coming.

The HydroLok feature costs extra, but your new V6 works well for daily driving.😏 Overwhelming percentage of failures seem to occur in the rear cylinders. Is this an oiling problem, a torque issue, or ???
Really love watching your videos! Not only are we able watch the engine breakdowns but listen to your amusing comments along the way. Thank you!
Apparently that $20 oil change special didn't include the oil
Bet that engine was running just fine on 6 cylinders for a minute! Got pretty lucky on those heads, aside from the cracks.
your channel is the best! I have never torn down an engine, nor rebuild one, but watching your videos are highly informative, and super fun to watch! Keep it up!
Great videos. Fast fwd in the right places, good narration, no music, can't think of anything to critique. Good stuff.
Another fun and educational junk engine tear down. Rapidly becoming my favorite style of video. Thanks for the vid and keep em coming.
After watching all these videos I’ll be able to have enough knowledge to rebuild my trucks motor keep it with more videos man
could call this a mega block V6, the noises this made mustve been amazing
I changed a buddy's 5.9 Magnum engine a few months ago for a broken crank, exact same spot as the 1 you showed but angled outward more. This engine ran even tho it had a nasty sounding knock. Regardless, it cranked up, ran somewhat smoothly & even had normal oil pressure! Had me stumped at first trying to figure out what was going on until the pan was dropped. Amazing given the forces involved that it could still function at all. I'm becoming addicted to your channel. This is the engine version of Precision Transmission. Keep it up 🍻
Great video! Not only is your videos entertaining but im learning A LOT. THANK YOU! And cant wait for the next video on that Porsche!
I'm really enjoying your videos and the best part... the analysis of the engine failure!
please give us a tour of your yard!!! Please
I do love a teardown video.
I have said it before on almost every video, the Sherlock Holmes as to who the murderer of the engine was, is equally interesting to see each time! If all you did was engine teardowns like this... I would still watch them and be equally entertained, these NEVER gets old, even when you pull apart the LS engine number 5 million, they never die the same way! Or they may have the same reason, but the failures never look alike.

With the many engines that come through the shop almost complete even down to an oil pan as of an autopsy into why the engine failed holds clues when of the so called "non rebuildable cores" with bay windows punched through the block.
Great detective work! Awesome channel...👍
I work on big trucks for a living and I’ve done engine work since I was 9 I like your content
Great stuff keep em coming, would enjoy some occasional smaller engine teardowns too! or an s-type 4.2.
I think this is the only wrist pin I've seen broken on your channel so far.
Very interesting and knowledgeable guy. Makes the video much more enjoyable
I've seen a crank broken like that after a buddy of mine was hard excellerating and all of a sudden he hydroplaned the rear tires. W all the load on the engine and then hydroplane the engine went WAY past its ability to stay together. He even drove it onto the lift. Got the pan down and crank broken in half just like that. Felt bad for him but still cool to see.

I'm from Sydney, Australia and I blew a highly worked 6 cylinder GM Holden "red motor" in the same way. I was running triple 45mm weber carbs and a huge solid lifter cam in a 186 cube engine. These are a very old motor (based on the side plate Chev inline 6 from the 40s) designed to redline at about 4,000rpm, and have quite poor balance. Well, when I hit the water mine sent the tacho almost back to zero again... for a few moments at least.
If this were an engine planned for reuse it helps to take the intake off upside down so that debris doesn’t fall into the intake ports.
Your videos have convinced me that I will never attempt to work on another car engine.
Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for the knowledge !
I really wish we had a video of what each engine sounded like when it grenaded. Would love to hear what this one sounded like.

I really wish I’d seen your videos before I ordered a lot of parts for my boosted 6.0 build lol
Very interesting how you figured it out!
This had to belong to one of the vehicles you see stopped in the center of a flooded intersection where the driver thinks that if they go fast enough they can hydroplane across four feet of water. No sympathy there. Your teaser reminded me of my 1964 Chevy Impala. It had a 327 ci engine with less than 50,000 miles that had just taken me on a 1,300-mile vacation trip across country. I had only been back home a week when at 55 mph there was a loud bang followed by a heavy knocking. I drove it about two blocks to pull off. Since it was dark I left it until morning when I opened the hood to find it had tossed the belts. I disassembled the engine to discover the crank had broken diagonally across the second crank bearing journal which allowed the crank to stay, more or less, in one piece so it ran for its final two blocks. Plenty of clean oil and no mods so I never figured out why.
Your narrative is awesome...ty
I love this stuff!!...I appreciate you man!!😊👍👍😁😎
It's always fun (for us) to see engines that look like they lost a fight with a frag grenade
Who would’ve guess thousands of us would sit on our butts and watch you take apart engines? Better than prime time TV. 😄
I can't wait till I get home so I can watch this

Love these videos.
They could of been out mud boggin and got in a little deep and kaboom!! Good Show!!!
The Subaru EA82 also had problems with cracks between the valves. Usually it didn't cause a problem (spreading into runners or coolant passage, compression loss, dropped seats, etc) and repairs either were ineffective or the problem recurred eventually anyway. 3 generations of heads and the problem was never fully resolved so most people just ignore it.
Great content. Keep it up.
I had a Citroen Berlingo van 😶 with an adjustable rod!! It adjusted out the block 🤨 punching the starter motor off!!!! GAME OVER.
Gotta love engines that DIY their crank case inspection ports. Also Bluetooth connecting rods are the latest in engine tech. Get with the times bro.
Nice video thanks for sharing with us
This is a man who has torndown many a motor....well done
I love this ASMR stuff. Good work.
Really good job
The Sherlock Holmes of engine block tear downs.
I love it ..an adjustable rod ...
That must have made some epic noises when it blew.
I wonder how many miles on this engine. The varnish looks like chocolate. Epic destruction.
Excellent explanation
when my van's original engine fails, I will ship it your way for a decent price. its a gen3 5.3l LMF. Its also currently at 451000 miles, does not burn or lose oil, and has great oil pressure still. might be a few more 4l60E's before it finally dies.

adjustable rod !!!......for some reason the videos are soothing.....guessing because my block isnt being featured....
Really enjoying these engine autopsy videos. Would love to see the Legacy engine torn apart. I just got rid of a Legacy with a bad head gasket, but would love to see what they look like inside.
I really dislike working on vehicles but for some reason I find these engine "autopsies" strangely fascinating.
Driver probably drove his truck through deep water like a river or wash, and the intake sucked in water and hydrolocked the engine. A buddy of mine did this to his older Chevy 1500 with a 350 engine. He bent nearly all of the connecting rods. The rods looked like bananas 🍌
Not only adjustable rods, but fluid-controlled adjustment
How to turn v8 into v6. It's this new fancy technology where some cylinders are being turned off to save fuel.
Please please please tear down that ram eco-diesel! Can't wait to see what's inside!

I am addicted to these videos. You do such a great job in your editing, and an even better job with your clear explanations. However, I am crazy paranoid now! With 5 cars between my teenage kids, wife, and I, plus her motorcycle and my 94 f150 4.9L daily driver, I am freaking out about all the crazy ways one of the engines will blow up. I am constantly checking and smelling the oil, listening for the slightest knock or vibration....
Yes,I had to replace the hydraulic lifters in my 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine because they were mushroomed, number 6 exhaust valve lifter was the hardest to pull out as it required a fair bit of effort to remove it with a set of multigrips !
The unbreakable wrist pins , yet this one was salaughtered!
That looks like too much fun and you can’t have too much fun.
Cool I didn't know you could use your pan for storage.
You have a cool job.
I always thought these engines were all iron since they are in the 3/4 tons and are considered a heavy duty engine. I have a lot less envy now that I see this. My all aluminum 5.3 does what I need it to do in my half ton. Still a nicely built LS. Thanks for the great video!

What brand gloves do you wear? They seem to hold up really well.

they look like the nitrile ones i get at harbor freight but you can get nitrile anywhere. don't get the 1 mil, those tear quickly and are not for working on cars. 2 mil is good, you could use them for a few jobs. but i get the 3 mil. i can reuse them over and over many times before they eventually tear. im sure some ppl dont reuse gloves but to me thats really just wasteful especially when you can reuse them so many times without issue.
I love my adjustable rods they work great but I can’t figure out how to get them up I think to get them up you need to get a new flux capacitor
Someone should forge knives from your carnage parts. Please and thank you

Its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it
I definitely agree about it grenading at high rpm. I'm wondering if maybe it blew a head gasket? If enough coolant gets into the cylinders, that can cause hydrolock
Broken wrist pin.....impressive. Havnt seen that one before.
Nice Duramax I see there ready for tear down
Many years back I worked on a DeTomaso Pantera that had a crank like that last shot - snapped in two. It was still running....but didn't sound very happy :) Consequence of grabbing 3rd instead of 5th at max revs. in 4th. Ouch.
I love the sarcasm "adjustable rods"
I just did this to my 01 GMC 3/4 ton LQ4, luckily the block stayed in tacked it shot holes in both sides of the oil pan. Rpms jumped when it went into passing gear and she flew apart
I saw that Honda J series v6 in the background are we getting a video of it?
Yep Mine had a hole in the same spot. Right by the starter. My hole was bigger and it took out the starter case with it ;-)
I'd love to see a ford 2.0 ecoboost if you ever find one sir... I have one and I'd love to see the internals and their weak points
