Chest Freezer Ice Bath Update Q & A

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

There were a lot of questions in our last video of building a chest freezer ice bath so in this video Anika and I sit down and go through them all. Plus I explain how I feel after doing daily ice baths for 3 months.

I had the same experience getting pain ans headaches when I got into the water. How I got it to go away for me was to get into the water quickly and dunking my head right away has worked great. I hope this may help so you to get cold plunging again. JB Weld water epoxy works great for the seams and Pond Sheild Epoxy is a great alternative for the liner thats not toxic. Thanks for making this video.

Thanks a lot for your comments Tyrell. I'm hoping Anika will get back into the ice bath soon. Might have to wait for winter to pass though. I think next time I clean the bath out I'll take it to work and paint it in the pond liner. It seems to be the best option. Cheers

If anyone has the hypertension issues she describes, firstly the cold plunge will not give you hypertension. If you do have hypertension to begin with the cold plunge can exacerbate it if the temperature is too cold relative to your level of cold adaptation. Some people can experience a transient hypertensive event with no previous hypertension issues for the same reason. Address this by increasing the cold plunge temperature and continuing to lower the temperature over several weeks or months to get your body adapted. Specifically addressing neck pain/headaches when cold plunging with no previous history of hypertension, try fully submerging your head in the cold plunge for a few seconds at the beginning to initiate some local vasoconstriction. Second, this is often an issue that is non-hypertsion related and instead, is directly caused by the design of the Cold plunge, specifically DIY chest freezer cold plunges because the vertical walls of the plunge often leave people to rest their heads on the edge and then use that point of contact to keep their heads above water. This leads to a tremendous muscular strain in the neck muscles that will lead to stiffness, pain, and severe headaches, solution is to sit in the cold plunge without using your neck to support your float. However CHRONIC hypertension is a serious health condition that damages all of your organs and puts you at high risk for heart damage and stroke, so you should always consult with your doctor. I just wanted to post this so that people will know that they can still safely cold plunge even if they initially have hypertensive symptoms but that the solution is to just take it a little slower or adjust your floating position to not involve your head or neck. Everyone's body is a little different and yours will tell you if you are going to fast or not. Listen to it!

Just wondering if it's possible to just mount the pumps and filters to one of the lids and keep it closed? Or turn off the electricity when you want to open the doors? It's only a few minutes a day.

Some of the parts are in the video description. I would recommend using a pond liner instead of the Raptor as it’s starting to flake off in some areas. We are about to redo ours. If you send me a request on Instagram I’ll draw you up a diagram of the plumbing if you like. Thanks Lucio

Hi guys, just one more question; I’ve ordered the same Ozone Generator as you have and it came without a power plug. The wires are ‘black, white & green’. Assuming yours came the same way, which one did you use as the ‘Active’? I was advised by the seller that ‘white’ was the active wire, but just wanted to double check with you. Thanks heaps in advance, Dan

FWIW, the pump/filter is supposed to run 24/7/365. It makes a significant difference in keeping the water bacteriostatic. Not to mention that I don’t believe that these pumps are meant to cycle between off and on.
