Author Cheryl Strayed was in the red chair to talk about her book 'Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.' There was a lot more great conversation than we could fit into the program that went to air - here's the full extended interview.

God, I know. I couldn't stand it and had to get to the comments to say something about it. He is knowledgeable and sincere and genuinely wants to know more. I'm mesmerized by it. Definitely refreshing!

oh wow. They are turning it into a movie. Amazing. I hope the movie captures her spirit and the way the book is written.

Reading Wild a second time after getting the movie on DVD. The second read it less emotionally intense and more enjoyable read. An awful lot of emotional shedding on the first read. Love the way Vallée has Bobby conscience following Cheryl around as she hikes, both in ghostly cameos and in the fox that shows up when Cheryl is going through cathartic moments on her journey. Amazingly insightful. Sad that we lost Vallée recently.

Genuinely shocked Cheryl doesn't believe there's other life in the universe. She answered that one without thinking.

Didn't learn much about her experiences on the trail. "Would you rather fight a shark with a sword or a bear with a spear?" What is that about?

Read her book and compare with her New Revised version of how many miles she hiked. She admits in the book that she never hiked from the Mexican Border where the PCTrail begins. She started near the town of Mojave Calif. That is about 250 miles from where the PCTrail actually begins. From the book it appears she hitch-hiked most of the way she tried to hike. It was a snowy year. Total apparent mileage she may have hiked, in bits, about 300 of less miles.

She was ALWAYS clear in the book EXACTLY where she started & where she ended. There were ONLY 2 times due to extreme weather - that she had to get off - to go around & she WAS clear about all of that. ( Maybe you are thinking about the movie stars ?) Don't diminish her. That was a hell of a courageous & dangerous thing she did & a HUGE accomplishment in life. ( YOU ever do ANYTHING that was that magnificent in YOUR life yet ?)

She has said, and it is depicted in the movie, she started from around Mojave. Grow up!
