It's also very true. Madonna is not a great singer or great dancer. Not bad, just not great.(Although she is a terrible actress). It doesn't mean she's not entertaining or doesn't deserve her success. Madonna's talent has come from packaging it all together into a very successful product. Cher, on the other hand, has great natural singing voice and an Academy Award. So there's defintely more raw talent. Even in interviews, it seems Madonna is playing a character more than being her true honest self. Whereas, Cher is always the same and a straight shooter.

Men never get asked in interviews what they think if other men. It's just a question women always get asked.🙄

She's so real and instantly makes me feel comfortable- even though most celebrities of her "standing" make me feel irked typically. Like Madonna who IS interesting to watch but personally she's always had an off sort-of vibe. Like she's very pretentious and ungrateful. I have even more respect for Cher after this video. She knew the media is going for drama and she didn't give in to that but she didn't shy away from telling it how it is either.

I'm a huge fanatic of Madonna, but I actually didn't think Cher said anything that was untruthful. Madonna, especially in the early 90s, was known to be in-your-face and sort of rude...sort of like Edith Piaf was. Madonna is one of those people who tries not to give a crap and projects that. Madonna isn't the best singer, but Cher was absolutely correct in saying Madonna was one of the most creative people out there. She always had some point-of-view to express and understood and respected other artists in all sorts of field. She would study them and have it inform her own art. To me, that is what attracted me to Madonna...that and her social activism where her bluntness serves her well most of the time. Cher was probably really tired of answering questions about another artist, but Cher herself is such a brilliant singer and icon. Can't hate on her at all.

Agreed. I think Madonna's worst trait was not being humble or subtle in the way she conducted herself early on. The joke is, Michael Musto (Village Voice), I believe, was quoted as saying, in 1980, upon witnessing Madonna's early histrionics in a dressing room/bathroom towards other artists: "This girl is such a bitch! How does she think she's going to get anywhere in this business, when she steps on so many people, and is so rude and self-obsessed?!" And, I like/sometimes even love Madonna.

AnthonyKZreadFan That could also be her best trait because I think it was a fake it until you make it attitude that got her to the top. She had to have a lot of confidence because she had her odds stack against her. I think if Madonna early on had only half the confidence or arrogancy we would not have Madonna today. She would had wash up as a fail rock musician with her first label, without the religious controversy, bleach hair, Maripol look... Madonna wouldn't make it. She would ultimately either go hardcore (and become the Madonna she is today by the late 1980s but everything would been different) or she would had married someone in the music industry and become a one hit wonder.... just not the Queen of Pop because her time would had pass her. All though this is all hypothetical. Assuming she wasnt confident, she may just give up and become a housewife and move back home and went back to college. And Madonna became a music teacher and teaches in some high school in Detroit or the suburbs.

Madonna will NEVER be the level of actress Cher is. Madonna could NEVER have done things like Silkwood, Moonstruck or Mask. Are you KIDDING me? Cher is an AMAZING actress. She's just BRILLIANT! In EVERY role she's ever played, she just SHINES. She elevates everyone else's performance in the cast as well. And, she's held her own acting against Meryl Streep TWICE. I don't think we'll EVER see Madonna do THAT in particular. Perhaps she came close in Evita, and Harvey Keitel got interesting things out of her in Dangerous Game (which is probably her BEST acting) but that STILL couldn't touch Cher's level of performances. Madonna is more hits than Cher, even though Cher has a longer career. Both are insanely iconic and have maintained cultural relevance for extremely long periods of time. THey both are talented and are better at different things. If they focused on their similarities, they would probably be pretty good friends. Madonna is rude- but that’s part of her deal. I think she has toned it down with her maturity and growing older. I’m old enough to appreciate both. But truth be told, lady Gaga is more talented Han both of them in terms of music.

Well said! Madonna is talented and certainly knows how to work the business but there is NO excuse for mean and rude! Madonna wouldn't have or be where she is without the support of people. Cher always seems so approachable and giving. I don't recall in the time the limelight, press ect has been on her ever seeing her mean, rude or not having time for her fans and being thankful to the normal people; helping her reach the heights she has. Cher always comes across like the every day individual. Very mum like who you could go to for a hug when life shits on you from a great height. Cher would make it better just with a kind word. Cher has truly always been my personal inspiration. She is a beauty with a stunning soul.

That's what I like about Cher. She is so grounded and incredibly talented at the same time. She is great at singing and acting as well (My fav performance of hers is The mask, I cried my soul out I swear to God). That's what makes her a living legend!

Cher has that old skool don't-fuck-with-me, no-nonsense New Yorker type of vibe but still with a genuine heart of gold. It's rare to get these types of direct artists who aren't worried about being PC for the sake of protecting their image.

I actually think Madonna has a pretty and unique voice. I find it soothing to listen to, especially her ballads, I know for a fact that others agree. Her voice is extremely adaptable suiting various songs. She has a character voice that has a way pulling you in. She does not strain her vocals like many other female singers. That fact has actually enabled her to preserve her vocal chords all these years. That's a fact, I've read. She is also a skilled dancer. Anyway who's to define what talent is, it certainly is not Cher or anyone elses ( not that I dislike Cher) I think talent is like beauty in the way that is in the eye of the beholder.

Invidious- not only that Cher has had the number one hit on top ten for 6 decades. She has her name on the Hollywood walk of fame twice. Madonna does not have any of that.

I think Madonna's rudeness stems from being insecure (her mother loss plays a big factor in that--she was never taught how to be a lady, including a lady who swears.) Cher's mother is still alive, I believe, and they have a great mother-daughter relationship. Lack of mother can leave a huge gaping hole in a woman's soul.

I think it’s Madonna’s defense mechanism, which is to be aggressive to people so they don’t walk all over her. Men in particular have been taught this all their lives. I love the way Cher responds about Madonna. She touches both positive and negative thoughts about her and is also very calm and genuine. She isn’t screaming at her in public and throwing shoes like someone recently. She kept it classy for the most part. Man I disagree with you... As for MJ, I´m not sure if that famous statement was true or not, however if it was true, I think mJ did not like her because for the first time he felt threatened that a woman Madonna in this case would become more powerful than him.

Right on point. Madonna's biggest asset is her mind. She knew how to work the business by changing her looks and music to remain relevant during the 80's and early 90's. I liked her during the true blue/vogue years. I love Cher.😉

And yet Madonna does not have a negative word towards Cher

It’s funny how there’s a handful of clips throughout the 20 years of Cher being asked about Madonna, and her answering honestly, and people say she’s jealous?? Cher is resting in her legacy, while Madonna is destroying hers, desperately clinging to relevancy like always.

To those who say Madonna is better than Cher or Cher is better than Madonna: Cher and Madonna are both icons and talented and amazing in their own ways. I love them both.

I don't mind her being bitchy to Gaga because the girl is too brazen of a thief (e.g. cone bra) but I do think M's narcissism is real

@@helenatube The cone bra was on every pin up in the 40's and called "bullet bra" back then. Even monroe that madonna recycled a lot from ( more than gaga did from M ) worn it once or twice. ;)

One thing I miss since Cher has taken herself out of the spotlight for lack of better explanation, is the fact that she was always a good interview.

are you stupid or something, only the Beatles, Elvis and Michael Jackson have sold more records than Madonna, her legacy is there for everyone, facts and records are there for everyone to see.

now madonna is a shadow of her previous celebrity status. cher retired a legend and will remain a legend.

@@csa856 Selling records does not mean her vocals are better. Chers vocals are so strong and have only improved over time. Madonna doesn't have good vocals she has catchy song there was no talent there.

@@kirstyw6115 Madonna is not a singer, she is a Performer and one of the most complete entertainers. She manages a lot more skills than Cher dear. She can put a show by her own, Cher needs an entire dance crew and a circus behind her to make her visually attractive in the stage. The woman can barely move.

@@csa856 I forgot Madonna won an Oscar I'm sorry. Cher is a comedian and entertainer that's what her star on the Hollywood walk of fame is for. Oscar and golden globe winning actress. Award winning singer. Lifetime achievement award winning. And I am sorry but you can't compare Madonna attractiveness to Cher R u serious Cher is fucking gorgeous. And also Cher is a performer are you kidding Cher is none for being extravagant hence her concerts being not just a concert it sums up her.

I loved the 80's Madonna as a kid, but then i grew an adult brain, and now i can see all the things that my parents hated about her, when i look back now to her 80's heyday-i still love the music- but Madonna is hard to watch, she sort of gives off an air of arrogance mixed with insecure desperation, which i think Cher hinted at here.

Cher is awesome and so is Madonna.
