Chelsea E. Manning is a technologist, network security expert, author, and DJ whose actions showed the world that the conscience of individuals can make urgent change through bravery and determination. Manning rose to fame after publicly disclosing classified documents revealing human rights abuses and corruption connected to the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. She is a vocal advocate for government transparency and queer and transgender rights, and speaks on the social, technological, and economic ramifications of Artificial Intelligence. Manning served 7 years in military prison for her actions and was released in 2017 after President Barack Obama commuted her sentence. She has since run for political office, been the subject of a documentary film, and worked for Nymtech, a privacy-oriented technology project. In 2022, Manning released a highly-acclaimed coming-of-age memoir, ReadMe.txt.
