With the sheer amount of work that goes on behind the scenes, I very much doubt that he actually reads the books. The staff most likely read it and give him a detailed synopsis and the key points, otherwise that alone would be plenty difficult. I would like to be wrong about this 😅

Haha he actually does read the books. You can tell by how he interacts with the guest while giving his honest thoughts about the book and not just things that may be highlights and sells to many ppl. It’s painfully obvious if someone only gets notes from someone else, especially if you’re actually a reader yourself.

Nothing cool about homework.

Chelsea's moral compass was an incredibly big part of her life when she was younger that she could not keep that information and live without feeling a horrible human being. That also speaks volumes of all the people involved that didn't say a word and knew what was going on. Immense courage on her part.

But the fact remains its a biological man that would like to be a woman. If he wants to try be as close to a woman as possible he should be free to do so without hate. I don't understand a person that makes this choice so I don't hate. Im sure he knows he was born a man.

BS? She broke the law. She committed a court martial offense. I believe she thought she was doing the right thing. Sometimes when you do what you think is right you pay the price. She is very lucky no one was harmed by her actions because she could have faced the death penalty. As an E-3 in the military she was incredibly naive to think that she knew what classified information was okay to release to the public. To think she thought she was just in danger of losing her job. I don't think she was brave. I think she was just young and dumb.

@lynlovesthedead While I don't respect what Manning did in disclosing US secrets to the world, I do respect that she identifies as female.

As a non-binary/trans person myself, I always watch interviews with transfolk on edge, because a lot of cis interviewers tend to fixate on a person's transition and not on their value as a human. With Trevor, I love that Chelsea's transness wasn't ignored (but was brought up only once purely in context), but that he mostly focused on her amazing overall story. :)

Wow! You gave us just enough in this interview that we have to buy the book! As a long term substitute teaching Constitutional Law, I was able to cover her situation and Edward Snowden's, amongst other controversial topics. Hopefully my students still remember and appreciate that freedom that we had at that moment in our learning environment. We need to be able to hold honest discourse about our government and related issues, so that we, and our future generations, can make informed decisions. Governments can't always be trusted to tell people the truth about things. We need more people like her to at least try to keep them honest. To expose the truth when governments are hiding it. I think this also applies to corporations, probably even more so.

Snowden is more alright than Assange, his problem would be that he is excluded from the rest of the world, and there's probably 5 Kremlin spies watching everything he does, so it's kind of hard for him to avoid working for the Russian government.

Yanno, No shade on Chelsea but shade on society: The way Chelsea Manning has been treated is like an inverse of that Harvey Dent Quote. So: You are chastised long enough as the villain eventually they realize you were the hero.

I can so relate to her but because I was not in the lines to get her real story so I did not know her. Seeing this kinda detail or lack there of, is a real problem everywhere.

Leaking in this sense is releasing classified information that was not meant to be released to a person or persons not cleared for said information. In addition she was an active duty soldier so it was a betrayal of an oath that was sworn as a member of the armed forces of the United States of America hence the label of being a traitor.

A great hero, an amazing person with awesome values, courage, actual ethics (not easy morality, what everyone agrees with, but some would judge as immoral - what is best in the specific, unique situation, considering everything.... ) that's her genius and contribution

This show has the absolute nicest audience I have ever seen. I loves me some Colbert and Seth and RB, too, but Trevor has to realize the impact he's made just in the pure love and appreciation, kindness and supportiveness of his fan base -- it's really something. I could name a lot more than just three but no matter what I list you will have something negative to say in your comparison. Only regurgitating spoon fed propaganda and how the U.S. supposedly has more freedom than anyone else. (Fyi the U.S. doesn't even rank in the top 5 on the human freedom index.) So instead of getting into a long drawn out toxic messaging argument with you I will list just one country. Singapore! Singapore makes the U.S. look like a third world country in comparison. @@tboyer86 I am very familiar with the history and motives of Assange and stand by what I wrote: He is a hero and we owe him. You may disagree but triggering the broad public discussion about the importance of whistleblowing alone is a great achievement. You may disagree but showing the world to what lengths the US government is willing to go to destroy an undesired person is another important contribution of Assange which he payed dearly.
