Rye didn’t renew its lease because the landlord jacked up the price. That’s Brooklyn and New York in general for you. Cal’s back in Boise, ID working on a new restaurant space but it’s not open yet.

Man I just hope this guy is doing alright, buddy just looks like he needs a hug...poor fellow
This is my all time favourite episode in the entire series. I always come back to watch this dude being the realest chef and I live by the same principles as him. Cooking good food and keeping that focus on feeding people who want to enjoy good food for the low and just have a good time. From reading the comments and finding out his place closed down, which saddens me, I hope he got open another one and still does what he loves doing
This guy is so cool and down to earth

This is the toxic culture thag we have right now. Chef today should take note from the advice of successful chef that are now retired. Almost all of them will tell you that you should cook from the heart and serve from the heart. We beat ourself up more becausw we think we are not good enough and thst we should be better for the people that we dont even know. You see a lot of the good chef that are happy actually retired onwing a simple casual restaurant which made them happier because they are cooking and serving what they want without thinking of any judgement that could destroy them.

I tried to remember and find this series a few years ago but couldn't. Chefs Night Out is how I discovered Vice and the Munchies youtube channels and been watching ever since.
Had to visit this place after seeing this video. Found myself on the last day at Ryes right before it closed and the food was freaking bomb. The scotch eggs were amazing and the meatloaf was succulent and tender. Very sad this place is now gone and awaiting Cal Elliott's next restaurant!!
