Chef José Andrés: Food Is Not A Weapon Of War

Ойын-сауық

Stephen Colbert comments on the IDF airstrike that killed 7 volunteers from World Central Kitchen in Gaza, and quotes the organization’s founder Chef José Andrés who said plainly, “food is not a weapon of war.” If you would like to support World Central Kitchen in their nonpartisan mission to feed hungry people around the world, consider making a donation at wck.org.

It took the lives of these brave western aid workers for mainstream media to speak about Gaza. Over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, half of these are children. 100,000 maimed and injured, thousands still buried under the rubble, and over a million on the brink of famine. This isn't just what happens in war. It is the biggest mass slaughter event of the 21st century. Please keep continue speaking up Stephen. The world needs voices like yours.

Absolutely. I initially thought this incident is just a another horrific "detail" among much greater crimes that are silenced by Western media... if those aid workers can be a trigger for more attention to the crime that are happening it is at least a consolation to their unnecessary passing. RIP , and thank you for your courage and involvement

I don't claim to know all the intricacies of the conflict but as veteran who worked in intelligence... you DO NOT hit 3 separate vehicles that far apart in a coordinated surgical strike without preplanning. Those vehicles were watched and tracked long before the weapons were deployed. They knew who they were murdering.

  • @ryane6886

Yeah, I think the Israeli government has even said they'd been watching these vehicles for a long while. They said they saw some gunmen around/on some of the vehicles. However they have chosen not to provide any proof that a gunman was in any vehicle. I do wonder if the WCK logo was visible, given it was night time. But the fact that they literally called and told the Israelis where they were, and then tried to deconflict again after the first hit is very concerning. The fact that they were westerners with a prominent celebrity chef's organization is why we even heard about it. What if it was just another Arab based aid organization? No westerners in it? So sad.

To strike one vehicle, maybe. Two, definitely not. Three? Impossible. To hit the first one, chase down any survivors to the second vehicle up the road and take _that_ one out, and then chase down any survivors from that to the third vehicle a half mile even further ahead and take _them_ out...by no means is any of that an accident. IDF had been thoroughly notified of what the movements of World Central Kitchen would be that day and time. World Central Kitchen had co-ordinated their movements with the IDF so there would be no doubt as to where they would be at any given time, or as to whose vehicles (clearly marked to be seen from above as World Central Kitchen) IDF were seeing at that particular spot and time. To the families of these aid workers. Your brothers, sisters, daughters, and sons, fathers and mothers went to a very dangerous place to ease the suffering of some people by feeding them. They paid a very heavy price, but this price brought immense relief to millions of people in the form of international attention and outrage. 40,000 deal palestinains 70% of which are men and women, and over 60% of which were innocent men and elderly men. Those 40,000 didnt outrage people like Stephen Colbert and other cowards like him. But your loved ones did. I can imagine the pain you are feeling, because we have been feeling it for 6 months. We feel it with you. And we thank you for your selfless loved ones.

No you can’t blame Hamas for this or say it was just “the fog of war.” Clearly marked vehicles were targeted with precision drone strikes. That doesn’t “just happen.” I’m Jewish, I have dear friends in Israel and my brother lived there for a while; there are many Israelis who hate what’s going on. This whole thing was engineered by Netanyahu, who has openly supported Hamas for years in order to divide and conquer the Palestinians and make it look like they’re all terrorists who deserve starvation, and those who help them are enemies of Israel (forgetting that these aid workers were also on the ground in Israel after October 7.) Not only is Bibi destroying his own country and committing genocide to save his own skin, he’s also destroying ours, since he’s putting Biden in an impossible position and determined to make our election about Israel. I understand the tremendous pressure Biden is under; it’s not his fault that even the president is less powerful than the military industrial complex and the geopolitical forces making it very difficult to defy Israel. But the longer Biden waits to take action the more we are complicit in these war crimes.

Nah, this started WAY before Netanyahu. There has only been one Israeli PM to actually want peace with Palestinians (as opposed to pushing them out of "Eretz Israel") and he was murdered by an extremist that the current coalition treats as a hero. The problem isn't just the Likud (though they are particularly bad), the problem is the idea that Israel should be an ethnostate, i.e. Zionism. Until that idea can be rejected and a multicultural Israel embraced, the ethnic cleansing and Apartheid-mimicking tactics will continue.

Stephen, Im Andy from Melbourne Australia. Zomi was a close family friend of ours. Thank you so much for covering this. When we spoke before she left, despite all the horror we were seeing daily, she was so excited to go. Zomi got a rush and pleasure helping feed those in need with no bias, ever, in the same way I get a rush from surfing, and others doing their passion. I know Zomi would want me to say this also so I will and its true (as much as she was actually known to me) that every single person who has starved over there or are dying as we speak now deserves just as much recognition and thought for. Sadly this is cant happen not from any one of our fault (viewers/media) its just too big a scale. But we can stop them. We need to. I dont know the exact answer, but humanity needs to stop the ones calling the shots, I mostly aim this at Netanyahu and his government but also Hamas, as they are far from innocent. I agree with *WHY* they did the attack, i DONT agree WITH doing it. This is not Muslims vs Jews and 'Hamas vs Jews. That is what the Israeli government narrates to allow the masses to be tunnel visioned by the acts they are partaking in. Zionism is NOT Judaism. Real jews (and honest jews know this) Its a political movement/ideology. Part of that includes expanding the state of Israel into a much larger area then it is already. Its not a fight against Jews its a resistance to an occupying force (there's non-Jewish Zionists is what my point is) RIP Dear Angel kzread.info/dash/bejne/mWx-uc9qcbzglKw.html

@Harry-cb9kt No, "never again" for ANYONE. Your comment has no basis in reality. Fact is: Israel is absolutely obliterating an entire country that they had been oppressing for decades, killing innocent civilians and aid workers left and right. Any Jews not speaking out about this genocidal aspiration will be on the wrong side of history. Zionists are not the victims here, they have become the very thing they've suffered unimaginable harm from.
